Hyon Lee's fighting style is Hwarangdo, the ancient form of Taekwondo which dates back about 1,600 years. His kicking stance is very low with lightning-speed kicks. Danny Kim's style is that of modern Taekwondo.
This is under the USPTF that was founded by GrandMaster Young Chi Kim in Atlanta, GA. I was a student of his and he tried to promote this as much as possible. He passed away in 2003 and nothing else happened with it. I was given permission from him before he passed, to try and bring this back. The armor that will be implemented is a small pro chest guard that must be worn under the dobok top.
@MrsCLF75 was this popular during it's time?,cus i find it way more fun to watch than for example pro boxing or even ufc or k1(just my opinion).what was the public opinion of this?
This was somewhat popular during it's time. The issues started when money and politics got involved. Safety and insurance became another issue. Looking at tournaments now, the athletes wear way too much gear. Pro Taekwondo allows the athlete to take more of a "risk" with the intent of making money. It will make its way back soon. I'm currently working on setting up the rules and protocol in order to get it back in the market again. The new name will be US Pro Taekwondo Union.
@MrsCLF75 yeah, they have to wear them because of olympic demands.it really looks awesome.it looks very nasty, with all those kicks that are much harder and nastier than punches,it looks like kung fu fights from movies.i am active competitor heavyweight in serbia, and i can see dwi chagi(rear horse kick) as very useful in this type of fight without armor, both in offence and defence.good luck
what branch of taekwondo is this, or what organization? because i googled 'pro tkd' and found nothing to do with THIS style of taekwondo. i like the no armor, and higher intensity that this style of TKD has. WTF style has nothing on this, i needta find a school that teaches like this. (btw everyone, feel free to check out my channel for amateur WTF style taekwondo and Judo featuring me!)
WTF might be the rules here...but i still wanna know what branch or organization did this TKD...cuz every match i've seen that the fighters had red and blue doboks that said 'pro tkd' on the back were always the most fun to watch...this didn't look like WTF because they didn't have the hogu armor so i mistook it for maybe ITF or ATF...but yes, that was my question, where can i fine more vids from 'pro tkd'..also, like i said before, feel free to check out my channel for amateur TKD and Judo. ^.^
@REDSAMURAI307 how old are you? This was aired on espn mid-late 90s. I remember watching these fights, i think there were only like 3 episodes. Both of these guys are WTF. Was good stuff. I think this fight in particular was the best in the entire series.
cool down hyon lee you sound arrogant there will always be someone better maybe not in your life time but there will be. Especially if there is someone bigger but also has the same flexibility mental training the will be better. Just look at this a = 2(s - ut)/t2 where a=acceleration (m/s2) v=final velocity (m/s) u=initial velocity (m/s) t=time (s) s=distance (m). OR a=(v-vo)/t a=acceleration (m/s2) v=final velocity (m/s) vo=initial velocity (m/s) t=time (s).
Hyon Lee used to own/instruct at my old Dojang.....his damn kiyap always freaked me the fuck out, haha.

@MrsCLF75 punches will be seen much more than in normal wtf fight with armor, and they'll probably be similar to kyokushin style of punches.

This is how Olympic style should be instead of the p*ssy rules. Full contact!

@REDSAMURAI307 Check ITF using rules like this, WTF now are politics.

@REDSAMURAI307 This is a WTF style, why? In WTF you can't punch the face but you can punch the body. ITF or WTF are the same. WI are one.

This is WTF style.
The only difference is no hogu.
The reason u have more action, is cus the ring is smaller; so fighters have to fight.
