I saw this movie because I love & respect talented director Bryan Singer. "Valkyrie" was ok but I didn't feel the atmosphere of that period in our history. "Enemy at the Gates" (2001) and "Black Book" (2006) were much better films. I actually enjoyed Tom Cruise's performance but he did not take the lead as strongly as he should have. His non-German accent was not an issue it was the strength that he displayed in his performance that was disappointing to many. The supporting cast was superb

i live in zagreb, croatia, and they've just started showing the film in these parts. having watched it 3 times in a row i can say it's a superb piece of art and TOM CRUISE IS AT HIS BEST HERE. i even took my 18-yr old students to the cinema today. they loved it, too.

What is with Tom Cruse? Can he not act? I'm not saying he should have perfected German or anything but he should have at least made an effort to speak with German accent. Daniel Craig plays a German in a WW2 that has just come out and he speaks with a native accent! Is it that Tom Cruse can't act or is America somehow trying to claim credit for this attempt to assassinate Hitler? Either way, this is terrible film and I bet Erwin Rommel and Claus von Stauffenberg are tuning in their graves.

But if u serously look at his perfomances in some of his films like Top gun, Risky Business, MI, Interview with Vampire, Magnolia ,Last Samurai, Jerry Maguire, Tropic Thunder to Valkyrie....all I have to say what ever his religious beliefs are he's a one heck of an actor!!

I must say this is a very good and welldirected movie. Tom Cruise has in my opinion just done a handful of good movies over the years. As the caracter of a german officer who loves his people and therefore tries to get rid of Adolf Hitler he is brilliant. I never thought that Tom Cruise could handle a caracter like this. I've just finished watching a show called 'Killing Hitler' and I tell you what...this Valkyrie is typical of Hollywood...'Based on a true story' but added bullshit for your entertainment...just like 'Pearl Harbor' too much bullshit. This dude was about the 43rd attempt at killing hitler, and he failed because he didn't get time to pack enough explosives in the brief case....Cruise could have at least attemped an accent if he was a half as good as someone like Anthony Hopkins.

I would have liked to see a German actor to play Stauffenberg. With eveything we know and have seen about Cruise, he can not play this role convincingly. His personality is so much different from Stauffenberg.

My dad is 65 and has suggested we go see this together, when he hasn't seen a movie in theatres since Raiders of the Lost Ark (he might have gone to see Saving Private Ryan when it was re-released in 1999, can't remember). I think the movie will do good business with the mature crowd looking for some finely crafted storytelling, regardless of a foregone conclusion. The blu-ray will probably sell like hotcakes for Father's day and Xmas next year.

If you want to see really good WW2 films about Germany, watch Stalingrad or Downfall which were directed by Germans with German actors. Valkyrie may be ok but watching it with US/British actors speaking English downgrades it a lot in my view. This is solely to ensure that dumb Yanks who cant read subtitles go and watch the film.
