God does not care if you score a touchdown or a first down or a pick 6. This was dumb for him to do. I disagree with his actions but I do agree with his fath.
Why do people get so upset with Christians? Just let them believe what they want to believe. Hating on them just makes you look worse than they could ever be.
@pleasureavalanche So it's okay to let people believe in religion, even if it costs millions of lives, wars, terrorist attacks, and genocide such as the Crusades or the Spanish Inquisiton? It's okay to spread hate, homophobia, and chauvinistic views. It's okay that atheist's are the most hated group in the US. It's okay that atheist's can't run for office in many states in the US? You're behind all of that stuff? None of those things have ever hurt the world, right
@richig761 Yes, it's perfectly okay. Because once you start keeping anyone from saying what they want to say(or in this case, making hand signals), you start to become fascist. Now if someone starts shooting people in the name of Pro Life, then you have a problem. But there are words, and then there are actions, and what makes America unique is that people have a right to SAY whatever they want to say. And hate and chauvinistic views are only spread if someone else takes the advice.
@pleasureavalanche Where in the hell did I say that I want people to stop saying what they want to? Or, that I want the U.S. to be fascist? WTF...??? Also, America is absolutely by NO MEANS one of the only countries that has free speech. Most people can say whatever they want. I'm sick of Christian athletes. Quit thanking God for every fucking thing you do on the football field. Next time you pray, why don't you trade in some TDs so God can help some children in 3rd world countries get something to eat. That's so self-centered, thinking God is helping you score some touchdowns instead of doing something more important with his heavenly, divine, all-loving powers.
@mythdoctor Really? Awesome! How did you find this out? When did God tell you this? I'm interested to hear this story, in which you found out the answers about GOD!
@richig761 find for me, the passages in the bible, that state this. A religious scholar, Seder Olam Rabbah, claimed that he could accurately date the age of creation to be 6,000 years ago. He was obviously wrong. Scholars in the 1600's believed that the earth was flat and the center of the universe. They thought this because God's presence is on earth. The bible never makes such claims.
@mythdoctor I hope you're joking. From Genesis to Revelation there are literally hundreds of combined passages that talk about the earth resting on pillars, being flat, having corners, and being in the center of the universe. It also CONSTANTLY talks about the ENDS of the earth. If you're too lazy to read the book on your own. I'll gladly message you some of the passages. There's not enough room here to fit more than maybe a few.
@PatInChainsxx7 You think God only focuses on one person at a time? God can care less about making someone score a touchdown... thats such a bias comment and dont be so ignorant about someone elses faith just because they want to give thanks to God. When you give thanks at thanksgiving, who exactly are you giving thanks to?
@coolguyinthe562 I never said that God only focuses on one person at a time. I said it was self-centered to think that God cares about a football game when He has more important things He could be doing. And no, I'm not ignorant to Christian beliefs. I used to be one
@PatInChainsxx7 Well its not about a matter of being self centered, its just a matter of someone being thankful that they are able to wake up everyday to play football or whatever sport they do.
@coolguyinthe562 If somebody wants to wake up and prey everyday for being thankful that they are alive and healthy. That's fine. However, thinking that your "God" has a vested interest in you scoring a touchdown in your high school football game, is beyond laughable. It's actually more insulting to Christian's than anything. Not to mention, open up your Bible to Matthew 6:5 and Matthew 6:6. Christian's don't even realize that your savior's preachings frowned upon praying in public.
@richig761 Your right, God can care less about scoring a touchdown. Im not here to have a religous debate with you or anything because you and I have 2 different views of things.. but heres my take of it. If someone truly loves the Lord with all their heart, they'll thank God no matter the outcome of any situation. And yes, there are hypocrites who pray to make themsleves look good basically.. Honestly though, thats between that particular person and God. We cant speak for them.
This had nothing to do with him being a Christian. He had an atheist judge, plain as that. Atheists get defensive when Christians celebrate Jesus Christ. They think it's "pounding religion down their throat." You keep up the good work . Always give glory to Jesus Christ, and NEVER stop!!
Another reason why I won't watch College football. Then again, NFL refs aren't much better but at least they don't have frivolous rules like this crap.
I dont believe in god, but idk. I still agree this is a bullshit call. I don't think it had anything to do with the prayer, some refs are just assholes. If you play Highschool football you notice it pretty fast.
He was penalized for excessive celebration, not thanking God. Get your head out of your religious ass and realize that the world does not revolve around Christianity anymore.
You cannot take a knee and celebrate, whether you're thanking God or a slice of pizza, you're going to get penalized. Those are the rules.
@LoveYourMonsterMusic You are wrong, the ref threw the flag for excessive celebration and obviously that was not a excessive celebration. In the rule book when it says the ball must be given to the ref after the touchdown that doesnt literally mean after the touchdown run to the ref and give it to him, it means that you arent allowed to do anything celebration wise before giving it to the ref and this like i said obviously wasnt a celebration. So i am guessing you and your ref are liberals......
it's true... it is wrong for a white player to celebrate in this fashion... if he were black there would have been no penalty. what was he thinking? XD
The two top comments I'm sure are from the two most reasonable people I've ever seen on youtube. Great stuff :) (also that penalty was one of the worst penalties I've ever seen.)
Stop posting comments about religious beliefs! the ref didnt realize what he was doing but he threw the flag because there is a no tolerance for celebrating touchdowns
fucking cnn no one is attacking 'religion' they're attacking christian beliefs and their offensive finger pointing. "You don't believe in god, you'll burn in hell.' Other religions in the country are fine, america's forefathers spoke of not basing the country on any god. Want to worship 'god' do it privately like every other religion in America.
@veriden22 Wow...I didn't think anyone besides me had any idea that this country has no formal religion. Everyone I've ever talked to says that Christianity is the country's religion, which is nowhere near the truth. That being said, however, I can't fault this player for doing what he did. It wasn't like he gloated about it and made a big deal of it. He kneeled, pointed, and that was the end of it. Perfectly ok to me, until he expects everyone to do it or starts berating those that don't.
Officials usually prefer you don't thank your imaginary friends for your touchdowns =D and besides religion is supposed to be separate from daily life, I made $500 off my school because they gave me a detention for not saying the pledge of allegence, I sued them because when I said "I don't say it because it has God in it" they said "that's stupid"
its are job as god children t tell other people its our purpose..no not force but can u really force a beliefe on someone without torture an manipulation....151mcx jesus loves you..an i hope someone can open your mind t being saved its not a religion its a gift
Guys, guys.. we are focusing on the wrong issue here. Did you hear the reporter call the penalty a fine? Bitch stop talking about football and make me a sandwich!!!
why should we change our football rules for you religious fucks, We don't tell you how to fucking read your bullshit bible right?
So why should we change football rules for your stinky religion? Follow the rules or get the fuck out. Sounds simple enough that even I'm sure a religious idiot could follow!
cindyiscute im with god but as much i hate to see one of his children to be an athoist i respect your religeion just dont express it too much i will be sad a bit to not to see you (even though i dont know you) because i would like to see everybody their in heaven oh well :/
My coach told me "If you score a touchdown hand the ball to the referee like your gonna be there again" There's no need to over do it on the field, you should just celebrate on the sideline and stop looking like a damn fool!
There's a very small chance this had anything to do with religion, and a very large chance it had something to do with cracking down on touchdown celebrations and similar rituals. If he did a jig for the same length of time, he probably would have been penalized for that too. But no one would claim discrimination against jig lovers.
However, I don't think it was excessive, and I personally wouldn't have penalized him.
Okay okay, so this team beat our team (this video is of our 2A state semifinals game with them) and my teammates that were there said that they disagreed with the penalty. and we were against them.
I agree with the ref, he should have been humble and walked off the field quickly the son the father and the holy spirit off the field. It's not penalty for thanking god it's a penalty for excessive celebration.
Too bad the news report says he is a running back from TuRNwater High School, haha. It's TuMwater High School. It's even painted on the stadium seats right behind him.
wait i thought u jus can't celebrate by rubbin it in the others team face.... all he did was thnk god he rlly didnt draw attention 2 himself.. bt wateva
I have official High School Football for many years, and I would have flagged this as well. The high school rule is clear as the blue sky; any act that brings attention to yourself is a penalty. You can hug your teammates, you can celebrate int hat way, but an individual celebration is not allowed, and this was clearly an individual act. t's not about religion, or what he meant by it.
@isomjarz I am not a high school afficial, because I have no idea what an afficial is, but I am a high school football official, for 16+ years. Unlike you, whom I doubt is even a high school graduate. Are you defending his right to thank God, by using hateful profanity?
BS the NFL allows celebrations just not group celebrations or celebrations that provoke the other team, he was showing his expression for the heavenly father himself Jesus and in Jesus's name ay man, i mean that kind of celebration is something we all see in College and NFL games reggie bush-USC/Saints, N. Suh-Nebraska/Lions, Maurice Jones-Drew-UCLA/Jaguars, Ed Reed-MIAMI/Ravens Tim Tebow-FLORIDA/Broncos Ponder-FSU/Drafted to the Vikings 11' draft, etc., happens all of the time so BS call period
Every ref calls the game a little different in their view I suppose. I am a Christian and would do the same thing he did but he took the high road. Said he would continue to do it but would do it in a way that himself or his team wouldnt get penalized and cost them a game. Very respectful of the player. The ref....eh maybe he needs to watch some film from the pros and college ball on how they handle the situation. But everyone is allowed own opinion.
Washington State is ruled by the politically correct "We know whats best for you" types in Seattle and the surrounding areas so this kind of thing is no suprise.
Millions of people are suffering this very minute around the world, god and Jesus have forsaken them, and yet they have the time to support this guy's football ambitions? Pathetic.
Stupid call, but they happen. I'm sure the ref is just trying to do his job and isn't a fear mongerer and religion hater. Just don't penalize that again, buddy.
They won the state championship!!! God was like you wanna penalize him for that? haha here is your state title boys. I live in tumwater so its soo awesome they won
@Brett9897 I know that religion is a bunch of made up malarky because it uses scare tactics to control people. and because of this control, a select few can reap benefits for themselves. but if you want to be controlled and live your life by somebody else's rules because you can't think for yourself, then on well. also, i never said you were christian. all religion is the same anyway."do this or suffer, do this and be rewarded." you are like a trianed dog. also, nice personal attacks, it helps!
@Brett9897 so do you believe that only your religion is right and the other ones are wrong? All other religions are made up...except yours is the real deal..is that what you are saying?
@REDJ37 No I don't believe that. Some religions are based off of the fear of god while others are based off of the love of god. Some religions have many gods, some religions have no gods. It is impossible to ever know which one is correct if any. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't follow the faith you believe in. I do despise anyone who tries to force their beliefs on another (i.e.) the anti-christmas billboards and JESUS billboards, but openly celebrating your beliefs is fine.
christians always wanna make a big deal when they dont get special treatment. rules are rules get over it. jesus doesnt care that you scored a touchdown. the game was out of hand, jesus probably would have kneeled at the one yard line. He obviously did this for arrogant reasons and to draw attention to himself. Jesus knows your thoughts, why not just tell him telepathically? Lets be real here
@TheOnlyexisting Or why not show openly how proud you are of your God? The bible states that "if you are ashamed of me before men, I will be ashamed of you before my Father." Jesus speaking...Maybe he could have just thanked God in his head. But he wanted to give glory to the one who created him....We have pride in our God...in His son. No one can ever shut us up. :)
All right, we all need to keep the debate about religion for another forum.
As for the play and call, the NCAA allows for a player to make a jesture of prayer but as for the NFHS book, there is no such clause.
In my opinion, the foul is defended by rule, but the use of it in this case is rather poor. I feel it was more the back judge making himself to be seen. The referee should have waved the foul off and then spoken to the coach to inform the player not to do it again. Much ado about nothing
To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did." When God takes something from your grasp. He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. Concentrate on this sentence. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you. Please do not break. Just 27 Words, "God our Father, walk through my house and take away all my worries and illnesses and please watch over and heal my family in Jesus name, Amen."
@WICKEDMAN9MM I was unaware that live humans could not be reduced to molecules and atoms. Thanks for uninformative debate. You still never answered the question. The question posed was, assuming your nonsensical points were true, how does that effect religion. Don't even bother answering again that humans will eventually turn into atoms and molecules, because it isn't true. A human can't turn into something it already is, atoms and molecules.
@ohaman17 scratch that, i am. and your foolish enough to take a suspicion and shun fact. tell you what. if you can dis prove him....write back. if not, go back to fondling yourself to femtron anime Donald duck claymation porno.
this is taken out of context. of course the bible doesn't say that. how many times have you seen players do the sign of the trinity after a touchdown or homerun? iirc, big papi does the sign then kisses his fist and points up after every round tripper. should he be fined or thrown out? this was not a blatant disruptive celebration like chad johnson. if you were truly offended, you have a problem. and as said before, freedom of religion.
Simmer down :) I am in no way offended at all with what he did. I live with 5 people that are Roman Catholic, so obviously I don't care :P
Someone else commented to me also, and said that there were other players that didn't get penalized and this guy did. That is BS, because if the refs are going to enforce a rule, they must do it to all players, that seems to be the issue apparently.
@beastbomb35 what the fuck is free will then?....you act like god was blocking for him. Im all for everyone believing what they want but dont just babble some bullshit
@SAViNGLiVE5 You why don't you learn to read. I never said that he blocked for him or refered to that. Your putting words in my mouth. I was not babbling on like you are, buddy.
Just because it was an act of "faith" doesn't give him any more right to do an endzone celebration than some kid that wants to spike the ball. Rules are rules, no exceptions. There is nothing in the Bible that says "after every touch down you must pray to me because I God all mighty gave you the strength to get the touchdown" Therefore, penalty. Good call ref.
@ri8002 interesting take. I see the rule IS to give up the ball once you've reached the endzone. Yet through previous highlights of the actual game; on every touchdown scored the ball wasn't given up right after the play. These should have accounted for potential penalties yes? I guess there are mixed emotions on the matter, that even logic can't seem to find some middle ground. Perhaps the referee was frustrated for the other team, perhaps the running back should've just dropped the ball first.
@ri8002 The problem I have with it is that, after watching the highlight reel from the local station, there were other, non-religious touchdown celebrations that did not get flagged. I seriously hope the league realizes what a boneheaded decision the referee made and punish him for doing that.
yet they can dance! uugghh thats messed up

styrbjornful 3 months ago
He was penalized for excessive celebration, not thanking God. Get your head out of your religious ass and realize that the world does not revolve around Christianity anymore.
You cannot take a knee and celebrate, whether you're thanking God or a slice of pizza, you're going to get penalized. Those are the rules.
LoveYourMonsterMusic 3 months ago
@LoveYourMonsterMusic You are wrong, the ref threw the flag for excessive celebration and obviously that was not a excessive celebration. In the rule book when it says the ball must be given to the ref after the touchdown that doesnt literally mean after the touchdown run to the ref and give it to him, it means that you arent allowed to do anything celebration wise before giving it to the ref and this like i said obviously wasnt a celebration. So i am guessing you and your ref are liberals......

fucking cnn no one is attacking 'religion' they're attacking christian beliefs and their offensive finger pointing. "You don't believe in god, you'll burn in hell.' Other religions in the country are fine, america's forefathers spoke of not basing the country on any god. Want to worship 'god' do it privately like every other religion in America.
veriden22 4 months ago
@veriden22 Wow...I didn't think anyone besides me had any idea that this country has no formal religion. Everyone I've ever talked to says that Christianity is the country's religion, which is nowhere near the truth. That being said, however, I can't fault this player for doing what he did. It wasn't like he gloated about it and made a big deal of it. He kneeled, pointed, and that was the end of it. Perfectly ok to me, until he expects everyone to do it or starts berating those that don't.
tiatrips 3 months ago
Officials usually prefer you don't thank your imaginary friends for your touchdowns =D and besides religion is supposed to be separate from daily life, I made $500 off my school because they gave me a detention for not saying the pledge of allegence, I sued them because when I said "I don't say it because it has God in it" they said "that's stupid"

My coach told me "If you score a touchdown hand the ball to the referee like your gonna be there again" There's no need to over do it on the field, you should just celebrate on the sideline and stop looking like a damn fool!
thecheeseycheese 4 months ago
There's a very small chance this had anything to do with religion, and a very large chance it had something to do with cracking down on touchdown celebrations and similar rituals. If he did a jig for the same length of time, he probably would have been penalized for that too. But no one would claim discrimination against jig lovers.
However, I don't think it was excessive, and I personally wouldn't have penalized him.

I have official High School Football for many years, and I would have flagged this as well. The high school rule is clear as the blue sky; any act that brings attention to yourself is a penalty. You can hug your teammates, you can celebrate int hat way, but an individual celebration is not allowed, and this was clearly an individual act. t's not about religion, or what he meant by it.

jcarbis 6 months ago
Stuntboys4 9 months ago
Every ref calls the game a little different in their view I suppose. I am a Christian and would do the same thing he did but he took the high road. Said he would continue to do it but would do it in a way that himself or his team wouldnt get penalized and cost them a game. Very respectful of the player. The ref....eh maybe he needs to watch some film from the pros and college ball on how they handle the situation. But everyone is allowed own opinion.

@REDJ37
Your view of religion is so ridiculously biased and untrue that it makes all your opinions immediately invalid.
supaflystrikes 1 year ago
@REDJ37 No my religion actually doesn't believe in any of that, so you are wrong.
Brett9897 1 year ago
@Brett9897 so do you believe that only your religion is right and the other ones are wrong? All other religions are made up...except yours is the real deal..is that what you are saying?
REDJ37 1 year ago
@REDJ37 No I don't believe that. Some religions are based off of the fear of god while others are based off of the love of god. Some religions have many gods, some religions have no gods. It is impossible to ever know which one is correct if any. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't follow the faith you believe in. I do despise anyone who tries to force their beliefs on another (i.e.) the anti-christmas billboards and JESUS billboards, but openly celebrating your beliefs is fine.
Brett9897 1 year ago
@Brett9897 can't argue with that, but I can't see myself as ever being anything besides spiritual/agnostic. Good day, sir.
REDJ37 1 year ago
christians always wanna make a big deal when they dont get special treatment. rules are rules get over it. jesus doesnt care that you scored a touchdown. the game was out of hand, jesus probably would have kneeled at the one yard line. He obviously did this for arrogant reasons and to draw attention to himself. Jesus knows your thoughts, why not just tell him telepathically? Lets be real here
TheOnlyexisting 1 year ago
@TheOnlyexisting Or why not show openly how proud you are of your God? The bible states that "if you are ashamed of me before men, I will be ashamed of you before my Father." Jesus speaking...Maybe he could have just thanked God in his head. But he wanted to give glory to the one who created him....We have pride in our God...in His son. No one can ever shut us up. :)
KaminskiJD 1 year ago
All right, we all need to keep the debate about religion for another forum.
As for the play and call, the NCAA allows for a player to make a jesture of prayer but as for the NFHS book, there is no such clause.
In my opinion, the foul is defended by rule, but the use of it in this case is rather poor. I feel it was more the back judge making himself to be seen. The referee should have waved the foul off and then spoken to the coach to inform the player not to do it again. Much ado about nothing
lem4037 1 year ago
To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did." When God takes something from your grasp. He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. Concentrate on this sentence. The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you. Please do not break. Just 27 Words, "God our Father, walk through my house and take away all my worries and illnesses and please watch over and heal my family in Jesus name, Amen."
ThePawnBros 1 year ago
@WICKEDMAN9MM I was unaware that live humans could not be reduced to molecules and atoms. Thanks for uninformative debate. You still never answered the question. The question posed was, assuming your nonsensical points were true, how does that effect religion. Don't even bother answering again that humans will eventually turn into atoms and molecules, because it isn't true. A human can't turn into something it already is, atoms and molecules.

this is taken out of context. of course the bible doesn't say that. how many times have you seen players do the sign of the trinity after a touchdown or homerun? iirc, big papi does the sign then kisses his fist and points up after every round tripper. should he be fined or thrown out? this was not a blatant disruptive celebration like chad johnson. if you were truly offended, you have a problem. and as said before, freedom of religion.
1quickI6 1 year ago
@1quickI6
Simmer down :) I am in no way offended at all with what he did. I live with 5 people that are Roman Catholic, so obviously I don't care :P
Someone else commented to me also, and said that there were other players that didn't get penalized and this guy did. That is BS, because if the refs are going to enforce a rule, they must do it to all players, that seems to be the issue apparently.

beastbomb35 1 year ago
Just because it was an act of "faith" doesn't give him any more right to do an endzone celebration than some kid that wants to spike the ball. Rules are rules, no exceptions. There is nothing in the Bible that says "after every touch down you must pray to me because I God all mighty gave you the strength to get the touchdown" Therefore, penalty. Good call ref.
ri8002 1 year ago
@ri8002 interesting take. I see the rule IS to give up the ball once you've reached the endzone. Yet through previous highlights of the actual game; on every touchdown scored the ball wasn't given up right after the play. These should have accounted for potential penalties yes? I guess there are mixed emotions on the matter, that even logic can't seem to find some middle ground. Perhaps the referee was frustrated for the other team, perhaps the running back should've just dropped the ball first.
ToXemiaBeatZz 1 year ago
@ri8002 The problem I have with it is that, after watching the highlight reel from the local station, there were other, non-religious touchdown celebrations that did not get flagged. I seriously hope the league realizes what a boneheaded decision the referee made and punish him for doing that.
