Congressmen and women have staffs who read bills. It would be impossible for any one person to read the hundreds of thousands of pages of the thousands of bills that are introduced each year. Therefore they have staff members who read the bills and summarize the key points for them. The alternative that you offer that members of congress must read each bill is absurd. Many problems would worsen and millions of people would die from neglect of the country's infrastructure under your proposal.

The Captain Morgan issue is a separate argument. Since we haven't read the bill, it would have been nice to hear the section of the bill where this alleged give-away occurred.

In general, it is my understanding that the government does give away hundreds of billions of dollars to military defense contractors every year to build weapons of mass destruction. However, it is rare that any other company gets anything. So I will consider this Captain Morgan business fictitious until shown otherwise.

Congress routinely gives money to different industries, not just military defense.

There's a piece in the nytimes online called "With Something for Everyone, Climate Bill Passed." Go search for it, it details all the giveaways in this particular bill.

And the country wouldn't fall apart, it would be doing 100 times better without this insane spending. The reason these bills bloat up is because congress does not need to adhere to a budget-- it can simply print more money.

Hey Shelly, great video. I actually wrote a computer program to simulate cap and trade, based on the real percentages that various fuel sources provide our electricity. It showed the price of a carbon credit skyrocketing after less then a year. This is because there are simply too many coal fired powerplants that would have to purchase carbon credits and not enough green producers to create enough of a supply to stabilize the price (simple economics, +demand, -supply = +price). Keep it up.
