  • DrMontague Thanks for uploading this series.

I am showing them to my children and

    they are an invaluable resource.

    Thanks again

  • Damn, I wish I had teachers like Sagan and Dawkins when I was a kid. That was a brilliant lecture!

  • Great series. Thanks for uploading!

  • Excellent video! great, thanks

have to be up at 9, gutted

  • Thanks for posting!

  • the spooky thing about dawkins is that he sounds so friendly: U i cant picture him angry(in a scary way angry):P

    great vid

  • He seemed angry when he confronted that freak pastor haggard or w/e.

  • he couldnt believe the sheer idiocy of haggard.

  • I still can't believe it.

  • The day it turned out Haggard had been partaking of drugs and gay sex with a male prostitute was one of the greatest days of my life. His sheer hypocrisy and cruelty (for daring to force others to feel "wrong" and sinful" while actively participating in the very same acts he condemned) was demonstrated in one fell swoop! I think my Atheist friend and I laughed and watched videos of him on YouTube (knowing what we knew) for a good half hour - then we got rat arsed at the pub!

  • it a wonder that religious belief still exists. dawkins is an ambassador for truth and mental health

  • Thanks for posting!

  • wow...great video.. I got to know about Richard Dawkins thru youtube, I bought the God Delusion (which I loved btw) and now I just keep searching for more from him, I can learn a man (or woman) so much, but he has the incredible 'gift' of explaining difficult material in understandable language..

    thanks for posting this lecture!

  • thanks for posting this!

  • Thanks for posting this. Great stuff.

  • sokoboo,

Information added to the genome has been found before. People commenting here have shown it to you, but for some reason you will not listen. Viruses can literally add information to the DNA of an organism it tries to infect. Information can develop little by little on a single organism's genome all on its own. Why can't you see that?

  • tacopylas this is the reason I blocked him. He was a fuckin time waster,I've seen more intelligent creatures than sokoboo lying on their backs at the bottom of ponds!

  • Richard Dawkins was great when he was younger, now he just rants too much. Cannot see any problems with logic, scientific truths, that are independent of birthplace!

  • put your Faith in the Scientific Method guys

  • Thanks for putting these on! I have now watched 3 of the lectures that Dawkins gave, and they are so convincing. Thanks again!

  • in the end. Only the proportion of has changed. No mutation has taken place. Again you have to show a mution that add information.

  • a mutation that adds information is down syndrome, usually humans have 46 chromosomes, but those with down syndrome have 47

  • Sure, sokoboo- he's right there in the video. Here's a little test. Kill off some bacteria with penicillin. The survivors will adapt and become resistant to penicillin. Easy experiment, do you know ANYTHING about biology?

  • frequency is not evolution. What you have is bacteria that resistant in the biginning and bacteria resistant in the end. Only the proportion of has changed. No mutation has taken place. Again you have to show a mution that add information.

  • sokoboo, a mutation did occur, but it was before we applied the penicillin. You could note the mutation beforehand, but natural selection makes it easier to see. What did you expect, that there was no difference between those that survived and those that didn't? Only those that had the extra information would survive.

  • CurtHowland, I can show that right after you show me a evolutionist can show a mutation that adds information to a gene.

  • Sean Carroll can show you that. Check out his book "The Making of the Fittest". It's very good.

    Psst. It's 2007.

  • a retrovirus adds genetic code into a DNA sequence. sometimes the retrovirus attaches itself into the DNA of a reproductive cell, and that new genetic code is passed down to the offspring, for better or for worse. (probably for worse). generations later, that retroviral DNA has a chance of mutating, for better or for worse (probably for worse). get an education.

  • get an education? You are callinga retro virus mutation, and telling me to get an education!!! Again whgen does a mutation create new infromation and more order.

  • are you saying retro virus are the mechanisms for eveolution, because I have yet to hear this. It is an interesting argument......... for a person who does not think critically

  • i find that hardly insulting coming from the likes of you. and yes, retroviral genetic code can, will, and does imbed itself into every multicellular organism on the the planet. disease has always played a vital role in the evolution of the species. get an education.

  • This is why libs are so very dumb. You say some one like me. You have no Idea who I am!!!

I agree disease can play a role in eveolution, by killing off those infected. You still have yet to answer my question.

Are you suggesting being infected with a retro virus can lead to the deveolopment of a new species?

  • do i have to teach you the entire process of evolution? its very complicated. its taken billions of years. get an education.

  • it may take you billions of years toget an education but most people only take about 20. The issue here is you are simply wrong

  • no, the issue here is that you are simple.

  • I may be simple but some time the simple answer is the correct answer.

995 the simple plain answer is the correct one. You my freind should tke yor own freindly advie and get an education.

  • you know what, you're totally right. the earth IS flat and it looks that way and the bible tells me. thats the simple answer. and the sun goes round and round and round, because god made it that way. and if i get sick, is it because of microorganisms? too complicated! its a demon from satan that makes me ill! gee, i feel a whole lot better. evolution? puh - leeze! tell me, how were adam and eve's grandchildren made WITHOUT incest?

  • again straw man arguments, It shows your lack of intelligence and knowlege of the subeject matter.

Intelectual noobs such as yoru self should just stay homw.

I have no idea how you can take a simple statment such as Mutation does not add new information too somthing like the earth is flat. But then again you are an intellectual giant, and I am humbled by our conversation.

  • sokoboo, The simpelest answer is usually the correct one. Except in Math, Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, Biology, Anthropology, Geology, Palentology. Those things study large and complex ideas, with complex answers. Not "poof" God did it.

  • You are a creationist half wit/ village idiot, creationist do not allow atheists to comment on their uploaded vids so you can piss right off you're blocked.

  • @DrMontague

    dude, calm down

  • He talks about a lecture on creation at the end of this.. do you have that?

  • The lecture he's on about is 'designed and designoid objects' check my playlists for this.

  • Glorious! Too bad all 7 segments are not linked or posted as one. Oh well, easy enough to search. Show me a theologian who will stand in front of a train "knowing" that god will not have it hit them.

  • simply click playlists

  • Thankyou for posting this; it is things like the Royal Society Christmas lectures which have gone on for a 117 years and the BBC who broadcasts them that allow me to love my national culture despite its adherance to things as utterly foolish as a first past the post electorial system and a monarchy. It is strange that these yearly lectures promoting science to children are a Christmas tradition here.

  • Thank you DrMontague, really great stuff. :D

  • Dawkins is such a great thinker, thanks for the video

  • Dr Montague. Sincerest thanks for sharing these lectures with us. Fascinating and informative. Cheers! Here's to Dawkins!

  • This man is one of the greatest thinkers of your time,if not the greatest. If God is real, He is guilding him to make us think.

  • Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster for Richard Dawkins!

  • hehehehe..nice one ;) we should begin a church for the Fyling Spaghetti monster..or the lying teapot.. not sure ;)

  • How dare you discuss your "Flying Spaghetti Monster" heathen! The invisible Pink Unicorn shall defeat all!

  • I like the idea of a lying teapot rather than a flying one.

    'I'm cold'

    ouch

    'haha, fooled you!'

Russell should have proposed that instead.

  • bravo

  • excellent.

  • *clap**clap**clap**clap*

  • awesome thanks!!
