What exactly is considered using samples (aka cheating), or anything that would be cheating in some peoples' eyes? And I'm talking about in music that you're going to actually make money off of. Like, 1: Using a premade kick, then modifying it? 2: Using a drumpad VST, like DSK's DrumZ MachineZ? Or would you have to actually take a waveform(or waveforms), and tinker with it? Because I've been doing that, I'm using the Kicker plugin within my LMMS, and it sounds like SHIT no matter what I do.

@Alienpelvis86. Take a sine wave, modulate the pitch so it sounds like a kick and use a volume envelope to make it a short sound. Then use a bandpass, Eq, distort and compress until desired.

You don't get it. The effects are the main part of making a tok or a punch, or a bass for that matter. Using Hydra or Microtonic or the like, you only tweak a few things before starting with effects.
