Amazing Ian Tyson sang in 3 different types of music and was successful within all of them, what a career, plus the man wrote songs that will last forever.
Far more was happening in the mid-sixties besides Dylan! Glad to hear and see it on Youtube but not happy on how rock and 'oldies' radio neglects so many of the talented and influential entertainers like Ian and Sylvia and I could go on...Spirited music though.
I was (and still am) a great fan of Ian & Sylvia, and this is one of my favorites - it gives them both a chance to shine with Ian's power and rhythm and Sylvia's lovely voice. I like both this version and Peter/Paul & Mary's which is different in style.
@pinz2022 Nothing needs to be explained - the music is excellent and themes don't have anything to do with that. Your impudent and incorrect assumptions also have nothing to do with music.
Alas! Impudent maybe, but not incorrect, I fear. There was a serious core to my question. Quite a few of our veteran rock/R&B/country performers have christian-themed songs in their catalog but nowadays you never hear younger artists going to that well. Now that the liberal establishment reacts to anything christian like a vampire to garlic. It's considered forgivable to have come from that background but only if one later repudiates it--a la, Charlotte Church.

@Shadepuppy
So how do our old psychedelic puppies explain away the Christian themes of their earlier "folkie" work?
