Those horns are SO punk!! WRTC Trinty College in Hartford CT used to blast the sheit outta this, and thus, my ears. I may have seen them at The LIT Club in Hartford, I think so, but I can't remember.... what... a... surprise.... :P
WPRB in Princeton used to play this all the time in 1980-81. Or maybe it just felt like it was all the time. In any case, it was always fun to hear it come on.
@SciPunk215 What did Cobain say about Flipper? also I don't think you should compare an experimental noise punk band to one of the an alternative rock/pop grunge band. Obviously they both have something to say and although I agree that this is better than Smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana has lots of songs (mostly on In Utero) that are just as good as this and speak to you in an un superficial or cliched way. Just because you listen
noisecore doesn't mean Nirvanas vapid cookie-cutter pop.
We wuzz there...thank you...just fuckin brilliant....where are all the Joe Target videos? any clue......it all happened on South Van Ness SF ...damage mag etc ..once upon a time
Saw Flipper c. 1985. They were the loudest band I ever saw -- my ears rang for a week. There was so much force coming from the wall of speakers that when you walked within 10 feet of them, you'd lose your equilibrium. We spent most of the show walking toward the speakers, losing equilibrium, falling down, getting back up and doing it again. What a night!
back to the Nirvana/Flipper conversation... I noticed nobody said anything about Kurt wearing a Flipper shirt in a picture in the liner notes from Nevermind. Also... I didn't look really far to see if anyone did already say that.
@msmoustache80 You were great up until the last sentance. What IS a good way to discover bands? If Kurt Cobain is not enough than i dunno what is. Stop acting hardcore. Nirvana was a great band, who cares if they got HUGE
@SciPunk215 But Nirvana wasn't that overproduced. Look up Fecal Matter (Kurt's pre-Nirvana band). It's pretty raw shit. But, of course, I cannot deny how badass this masterpiece is.
I'm interested in what Kurt Cobain liked cuz I liked Curt Cobain. Have a listen to The Shaggs. They're there for you too. Def. not over-produced. Try 'Philosphy of the World'. Let me know if you understand it.
@101niceperson hey nice person. there are a couple of connections between the bands. nirvana bassist, kris novoselic, has recorded and toured with flipper (since 1999 or so). flipper did a version of "breed" on the nirvana tribute album. curt cobain also listed flipper as one of his favorite bands.
Umm scipunk215 i agree that Flipper rocks but do you have to lump it together with Nirvana? Both bands are awesome in their own way so theres no nead to criticise Nirvana just because they got more publicity. They all had their own style and just because they were major influences on each other doesnt mean that they are the same kind of music. RIP Kurt Cobain!!!
well who gives a shit about kurt when it comes to just listening to flipper? i say bless kurt anyway for having such a great fucking taste, he's fucking admirable for loving these guys...
A college radio station would play this back in the 80s and I would crank it up at the stupid T-shirt shop where I worked. It sounds even better distorted through muzac speakers. One day the boss came out and was yelling "Turn that fuckin shit down!" I was folding shirts and couldn't hear him. He turned it down but was still shrieking at me like a crazy person and I started to laugh at him. I was 18, so punk rock and so fired. Flipper, Pop O Pies, Fang...etc.
I've seen Flipper play this song until everyone had to dance or leave. No one got to sit and watch like a lazy ass. They said they would continue playing the song without stopping until everyone was up dancing,
How are you gonna call any piece of music "GARBAGE"? Doesn't really matter if you think its garbage. When you write some "garbage" songs post em and send em to me and let the world judge if your talent is garbage or amazing.

definitely NIRVANA>flipper, even though Flipper, Scratch Acid, Butthole Surfers are the base of Nirvana's music. I respect all, just saying.

Kurt* Cobain. They spelled it Kurdt Kobain on the back of bleach just to make it different, and give it "mystique". It's really Kurt though.
(Anyone confused, I'm referring to the description)
rockforchumps 2 years ago
I also read (in an introduction to one of his diaries) that KurDt might be a joke referring to Kurds.

@rockforchumps kurdt the d stands for donald which would be his middle name.... and was a nickname
