However, relations between Jews and Muslims was one of master and subject. I am Egyptian and my grandfather had jewish family neighbors living in the opposite apartment , they used to be close friends for many years. The family left in the 50s and to my grandfather it felt like losing a brother. Egyptian Jews were Egyptian citizens and an important part of our culture for many years.
