Serving openly will create a whole new level of tension, lawsuits, rules, disciplines, additional training ie sensitivity training, morale problems, infighting, and a whole host of unnecessary soldiers will have to endure because of PC! The Declaration of Independence is open to interpretations. Do you really believe that when it says, "All men are created Equal" do you believe it to be only white men, and not women nor Black men? And for the record, although the opinions of current military personnel are important on this issue, it should not be the determining factor. Many soldiers were opposed to blacks serving, and many are still opposed to women serving. That hasn't stopped us from incorporating them.
Either way, polling tends to support the notion that the military is ready for this change.
The only people stopping this are old generation very conservative guys. Most of young folks in the military don't care about it. It will actually be better since they will know who is gay or straight.
Many Lesbians have more cojones and energy that some guys.
