wow...really sad makes me sentimental to see ali getn beaten up like that, ge didbt deserve it to end like that!!! personally i will always remeber ali dancing as he was in the 60s the greatest boxer ever of the world! brought boxing to another level, made it almost an art and i will awalys love him.for that! :)))
Dundee was a scumbag; I hate to hear people talk of just how much he "loved" Ali. Yeah, like here where he allowed he take a beating in a fight he knew previously to it being signed that he couldn't win. The worst thing is he waited until Ali's manager (who was in the crowd) signalled for him to stop the beating.
I remember watching this sad example of, just a viscious beating. You could see that LH was conflicted having to beat his mentor Larry didnt want to hit him. You could see it. So sad
Muhammad Ali is an will ever be the greatest ever this fight dint mean anything, Yea sure it was his last fight, but we all know he won in our hearts!, this loss dint mean anything. MUHAMMAD ALI IS AND WILL EVER BE THE GREATEST BOXERS OF ALL TIME EVER!
A friend of mine who lives in Arizona and works for a cable company out there actually went to Ali's home to install something or other, and Ali was kept in a downstairs room in a special made easy chair. My buddy asked if he could meet Ali, and was told no, but Ali himself heard the request and made some sort of hand sign signalling it was OK to come and meet him. He posed for a picture and Ali made a fist in the photo. I cried when I seen the photo. To see the shape he's in now- I love Ali
@KLUNKET That's a cool story. Brings tears to my eyes just hearing it. Mike Tyson was my generation, and my favorite fighter to watch as I was growing up, but Muhammad Ali was the greatest of all time. Even Tyson said himself, that Ali was the greatest to ever step into the ring. His charisma, his energy, and his ability to connect with all walks of life made him one of a kind, literally. There will never again be another Cassius Marcellus Clay, aka Muhammad Ali.
@tysonfor1 shut the fucck up you cunnt, what have you achieved in life? you will never compare to him and how is he a 'fraud' he was old and wasn't conditioned for the fight if he was in his prime he would of beat him silly
@tysonfor1 great preformance? Ali had parkinsons, ali 5 years before this could have picked the round he wanted to. Your a fool sir, Ali was a mental monster.
@tysonfor1 Obviously after a response with a sad uneducated comment! Its hard to leave something you love! Yr cock wont b as hard as it was when u were 18 if u get me nobjockey
SEE EVERYONE. This is how vitali klithscko should have handled lennox lewis. Lennox was also 38, slow out of shape and clearly retiring. Vitali is the same age as holmes and up and coming. This is the perfect example of what SHOULD have happened, instead we see lennox coming back in rounds 5-6, vitali not being able to knock lennox out then getting his face cut up like a hooker's pussy.
@exploitivex What are you talking about? For one thing Lewis is Holding after every single punch and then thumbing the guys face to cut it. Here in this fight Ali lands about 6 punches the whole fight and is basically at the mercy of Holmes from the opening bell because of severe neurological damage.
Fights like this disgrace boxing larry holmes could of knocked ali out in those last rounds but choose to stick mostly to the jab I could them shots were hurting holmes just as much as they were hurting ali
As much as one could argue that the boxing promoters were corrupt and that this fight should have been stopped, it was still Ali's pride that put him in the ring. Whether or not this fight was fair doesn't change the fact that no one on the planet had the right to tell Ali, the greatest, that he must stop. He needed to realize for himself that "Legends die hard".... every hero has his day but every hero's journey ends sometime... Only Ali would say when that day came...

@mohio23 What did Larry Holmes even do wrong? In a boxing match your suppose to win. I have alot of respect for Ali dont get me wrong, but Holmes didnt do anything wrong apart from win.
You can see in round 10 Holmes know Ali is absolutely nothing, and starts pulling his punches, despite that prick Giachetti yelling for him to "dig in" and hit him harder.
Rocky Marciano had always idolized Joe Louis his hero and said after his defeat of Joe Louis that it was not the same as the Joe Louis in his prime. He felt very depressed for a while after his win over him.
Larry Holmes felt this way after this fight against Muhammed Ali.
He knew this Ali was only a shadow of the former Muhammed Ali/Cassius Clay.
Ali was 38 years old, had fought 59 fights, and was starting to build parkinson, eyeproblems, headproblems, but still he did not want to drop down,, for me that was the most impressive match from Muhammed Ali ever!
@havso23 lol he got a savage beating from a guy that at the end of the fight was pulling his punches and just using his left hand out of respect but also there was pitty in there it was sad to see ali get absolutley donkey licked but it made it a bit easier for be because the guy was an asshole outside the ring
Yeah larry could have killed him, he landed that quick triple hook combo to Ali's head solidifying the onset of Parkinson's. I would have liked to see the ref stop it 20 seconds into the last rd. Respect to Holmes for holding back and not executing Ali
@aleksandrpondios The greatest boxer of all time was Sugar Ray Robinson.
The greatest athlete of all time was either Alexander Karelin (most dominant athlete in their sport ever) or Wayne Gretzky (most scoring titles/4 championships and 8 hart trophys)
@aleksandrpondios Bubka at the Olympics twice and was out with an injury. Michel Phelps has only one Olympics to stand on, so he's still on the shelf as one of the all time greats
.
Larisa Latynina won gold in Artistic gymnastics, ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS!!
Bjørndalen? Which one, the biathlete from Italy, the brothers from Norway? I'm assuming you mean Ole Einar Bjørndalen.
He's a great but Karelin didn't give up a single point in 6 years of elite competition.
@rrtodd95 IT IS FUNNY TO DISCUSS,GRETZCKY NEVER WON OLYMPIC O WORLD GOLD.I LIKE HOCKEY,BEING ORIGINLY FROM RUSSIA,BUT IS NOT SO POPULAR IN OHER COUNTREIS.I CAN TELL 20 ATHLETES AT LEAST,WITH THE SOME O BETTER ACHIVEMENTES.LATININA WON 18 OLYMPIC .MEDALS.BUBKA WON 1988 OLYMPIC GOLD,1983,1987,1991,1993,1995,1997 WORLD.SMASHED 35 RECORDES.PHELPS PARTICEPED IN 3 OLYMPIC GAMES AND WON 14 GOLD,YOU HAVE TO CHECK YOU KNOWLEDGES.AND WHY GRETZKY AND NOT PELE,FOOTBALL IS MUCH MORE POPULAR OVERALL THE WORLD
@aleksandrpondios Overall athleticism required in Wrestling or Hockey makes it more impressive than the others.
You don't have to be physically tough to pole vault, swim, play soccer or compete in gymnastics. You do require, incredible hand eye co-ordination, strength and endurance but you don't have to dig down when you're hurt and push forward in those sports.
You may say, what about so and so gymnast that competed with a broken ankle but those are few and far between.
@leafyutube i dont gonna describe you comment as stupid,if you are really 42 years old you haveto be more poilte.I know everything about Cretzky career,so you have to read all the comment,j just said that there are many great athletes in many spotrs which are more popular than hockey,So it is unnormal to characterize Gretzky greatest athlete of all sport.
@rrtodd95 Yeah when Floyd gets beaten by Pacman. Judging by Pacroid's last fight and his current refusal to negotiate a Mayweather fight, your little roid boy now has been exposed. He doesn't know what to do. LOl. you will cry when your boy gets his ass spanked 10 times over. Fighting like a wild amateur, he's going to get hit big time with the right leads before Roach has to stop Poochiao the PED user. Enjoy crying then.
@rrtodd95 That's because Pacroid didn't get an intentional illegal headbutt right off the face and had to get 6 stiches in his mouth. If I recall Pacroid was given a gift decision in his last fight against an old 38 year old Mexican legend at the end of his career, and having the disadvantage of being forced 2 weigth classes up. Makes Pacroid even more of a phony, couldn't beat an old man, whom had the weight disadvantage despite this being "the best Manny Pacquiao we have seen"
@rrtodd95 The conventional drug test is a joke. James Toney and Sugar Shane Mosley admitted and were found guilty of steroid and EPO use despite passing all the tests.
Mayweather fought Mosley, De Lahoya before Pacquiao did you idiot. What's more important is he fought those 2 when they were champions. Pacquiao fought them both 1 year after Floyd had beat them and when they were washed up. Why lie for?
Manny always looks "bad" against fighters with brains. Marquez 38, 2 classes beat Manny
@musood6630 YOUR the one making excuses. The test is a fraud, Mayweather never ducked anyone. He's not ducking Manny. I bet you're going to say he didn't beat up his girlfriends either and he didn't plead no contest. (fancy way of saying, I'm guilty but I don't want to say it) and I'm guessing he didn't assault that bouncer in spite of the fact that he was caught on camera doing it.
@rrtodd95 Haha again having to make an argument that is not even related to the actual discussion. Keep it on Mayweather/Pacquiao and not Mayweather's legal problems.
Of course he's not ducking Manny, read Dan Rafael's latest ESPN article- it's self explanatory. Your boy Pacroid ended negotiations to pursue a 4th fight with Marquez to redeem himself from getting his ass kicked. Pacquiao is a sham and a media hype job. Any real boxing fan knows it. This is the 3rd time hes ass has beenkicked.
1:25 - that moment in my opinion shows Ali's true character. He was out. Any other fighter, maybe even man, in history probably would've fell down. Dead tired for many rounds. Yet, his will - his WILL! - alone got him to survive even though the body had failed on him a long, long time ago.
It's amazing how much better Ali looked against Trevor Berbick---a fight that took place AFTER this one. I am aware that Holmes was superior to Berbick, but still----Berbick was a "good" boxer, a contender and a strong puncher. Ali actually showed offense against Berbick, and real movement (and stamina). He lost, but made it interesting---not at all dominated like he was against Holmes. Again, a young Ali would be a far different story for Larry. Holmes and Ali were two greats.
@funktron4 Because Ali took stuff that messed him up to make the weight quickly. Ali said that, leading up to the fight, when he trained, he got tired before finishing a single mile. With Berbick, Ali trained properly. Considering that Ali ran 6 miles at the age of 40, what you saw was how Ali would fight if he was in his early forties. A true legend.
@carmodifire Yes, I had heard that he took diet pills that caused severe dehydration----had no idea it was that bad though. When you think about it, he ended his career---went down swinging----lost a fair but close decision to a contender who I think eventually won a share of the title, pathetic as that might be. My point is that he finished against a decent fighter. Meanwhile, Frazier's last fight was against Floyd "Jumbo" Cummings. Their last fights were a microcosm of their careers.
Holmes is a top five all time heavyweight champion. I rate Ali slightly higher than Holmes, but it's close. Holmes fought Ali perfectly----he won convincingly but somehow managed to show respect for a man he considered a mentor---a class act by Holmes. This Ali was like the Willie Mays, maybe the greatest baseball player ever and a terrific defensive player, during his last season in baseball, stumbling around the outfield. An in-prime Ali would have been a much different challenge though.
LARRY HOLMES IS ONE OF THE GREATEST FIGHTERS OF TIME. HE WASNT GIVEN A CREDIT HE DESERVED BECAUSE HE STARTED HIS CAREERA FROM BEING A SPARING PARTNER FOR ALI AND FRAZER. HE CHANGED THE WORLD OF BOXING BY BEATING ALI WITH A JAB. GREAT BOXERS IN OUR DAY LEARN THAT FROM LARRY. THAT IS HOW LEWIS BEAT MIKE TYSON WITH A JAB AND THAT IS HOW VLADIMIR AND VITALY KLITSCHKO BEAT THEIR OPPONENTS IN NOWADAYS.
I have little respect for Larry Holmes because it took him 11 rounds to bring down a Parkinson's afflicted Ali. In his position I would not have accepted the fight; Ali was in no condition to be fighting anybody, it was a really low down thing to beat on a man suffering from Parkinson's. I'm glad Tyson dropped his ass
@IdiotInaBox79 Shut your dumbass up! Holmes LOVED Ali, and he choose not to deliver a knock out punch to Ali, because he didn't want to see him on the ground! You know nothing about Larry Holmes relationship with Ali! You should not be allowed to speak!
i agree with you. larry Holmes just did it for shock value...he in no way shape or form could have beaten up on Ali had Ali been 31 like he was...Ali would have given him a boxing lesson smdh at the idiots.
That was only the 10th rd, I'm glad they stopped the fight...5 more rounds would have been a disaster for Ali...but hit happens to all the greats...Jordan, Ali, Baberuth, etc lol...they stay too long.
@IdiotInaBox79 yeah but the reason why it took Holmes 11 rounds for the win is because he was noticing that there was something seriously wrong with Ali so Holmes went a little easy as you can see his trainers were going overboard with the game plan telling him to nail Ali but like that other dude said he ignored their instructions because he seriously didn't wanna hurt Ali.
Don't blame Holmes Blame the boxing promoter for staging this frighting event and the Nevada State Athletic Commission for allow this fight to happened. If this was under UFC, this fight would not have happened. Ask Chuck Lidell & Frank Shamrock why Dana White won't allow them to be apart of UFC because when he saw Lidell and Shamrock's appoined who had an average record knocking them out White refuse to allow them to fight again.
@Elmo1998NZ money talks he doesnt care about respect or shit. but ali is a legend he will be remember forever unlike any boxer . no one can reach the glory of ali
@Elmo1998NZ if i was holmes i would acctually just lay down and act like i died because no one know's me for boxing I've just fucked up the record of the greatest boxer of all time just because he was old
I agree with Bigmone. While this may be the worst fight ever, it's not Holmes fault. He was a superb champion and it wasn't his fault Ali was shot. I think Larry actually showed some class by not opening up on Ali in the late rounds. Though this is sort of like watching Ali-Williams in the mirror. Just sad.
@ClintWestWo0d What would have happened the next fight for Ali? He needed an ugly beating to convince him not to fight again. Even this one wasn't bad enough, since he fought Berbick later.
Ali needed this, whether it was from Holmes or someone else. He just wasn't smart enough to know when to quit.
My complaint is why the ref and his corner didn't end this fight sooner. He had no chance.
@ClintWestWo0d If you respect him as a fighter than wouldn't you wanna actually... y'know... fight him? Standing there and letting him win would just be kind of... insulting to his pride don'cha think?
for the jerk off commenting above, it is very sad to see someone taken advantage of when you know they dont have it anymore, i know, u say well he didnt have to fight, but a REAL competitor will do so, even if advised not to, his wife even told him not to...but the thing is why is holmes beating him so bad, does he think he's beating the 1968 ALI or somethin, can he not see the old withered man in front him, but ALI still ate his blows like a kids punches, stood tough and tall for how many rnds?
ali's frame of mind: go head u wana beat the champ dont you, hah, u wana whup up on da legend do you, go head if makes u feel like somebody, i aint stoppin ya, big ugly fool, im just old, u aint no real boxer, but these ppl kno who i am, u aint shit....lmao
Big respect to Holmes for not opening up like he could have done - he knew better than anyone except angelo dundee just how far Ali had gone - he held back out of love and respect for his old boss and friend.
Can these jerk-offs stop talking about how sad this is and give Larry Holmes some fucking credit? He's one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and easily the most underrated. They're calling him a savage for dominating a burned-out Ali. No one talked about how sad it was when Lewis destroyed Tyson. They gave Lewis, another underrated fighter, the credit he deserved. The boxing community has not treated Larry Holmes as well as he deserves. Shame on them.
@bigmoney749 youre right to a degree but muhhamad ali is seriously fucked up in this cant really compare it to tyson lewis, though tyson wasnt exactly in his prime and was always mentally unstable it had to get to him sooner or later
@DiMarco209 still not that out of shape as to be compared to alis physical condition and the coke head part i cant really comment on it I dont know what was going on his mind he was always unstable and bipolar and on different meds, i mean that comes to the condition of his mind and that is a part of talent i suppose muhhamad ali was aged and also had been through a lot hed already done his part, mike tyson was still young, thats the main reason why people dont give him as much slack
Ali wasnot the best he was a man that did not now when to stop sad. The best of all time was the great Rockey M. record 49-0 he was a smart man that new when to stop he beat the best of his time them stopped fighting smart man the best of all time 49-0
@bearoaktree Rocky Marciano is the most overrated fighter of all time. Undefeated doesn't mean shit when you only fight old has-beens like a 37-year-old Joe Louis, 38-year-old Joe Walcott, and 39-year-old Archie Moore and never-weres like Roland La Starza and as soon as any young talent (Floyd Patterson, Sonny Liston, Ingemar Johansson) shows up on the scene, you retire at 33.
@stealth423 Troll ? You are posting comments on my channel and here within 5 minutes you fucking virgin. Get the fuck out of here douchebag. Fucking wanna be gangster , toughguy prick.
Holmes did motion to the ref to stop it on numerous occasions. It was difficult for Holmes - either beat up an icon and be a villan forever or do nothing and risk embarassment.
As it is, I'll always think another fighter could have killed Ali that night - he was wrongly prescribed thryroid drugs for a condition he didn't have and was spent by round one. That, and he was too old to face a fighter of Holmes' quality.
@caspergolightly I agree.NTM the amount of times Larry's corner was telling him to nail Ali with the right. Holmes ignored those instructions. If he didn't,who knows what kind of damage would have been inflicted. Even toward the end of the last rd, yes,Holmes used his right but not nearly as much as he could have. Especially at some of the most opportunistic times when Ali's guard was completely down. Some ppl are mad at Holmes but Ali walked out of the ring when he could have been carried out..
ali is the best although he is cocky he still wins his matches and the only reason ali lost is becasue of his age ali is not a cunt and who ever says that they deserve to be shot my a shotgun. and that little dick-face called robjenkinsuk deserves to be put in the ring with ali wen he was young and be beaten till he drops
Ali was the biggest c*nt in boxing. Total disrepect for the officals and his fellow competitors. If you think he is the greatest sporting hero then actually look his history not some glamourised film or joining the idiots on the bandwagon.
dude wasnt smart enough to know when to quit boxing

Yeah larry could have killed him, he landed that quick triple hook combo to Ali's head solidifying the onset of Parkinson's. I would have liked to see the ref stop it 20 seconds into the last rd. Respect to Holmes for holding back and not executing Ali

I enjoyed watching Ali get beaten up.
He was such a disrespectful scum bag his whole career why should it be sad to watch an asshole get a beating.
I didn't cry when Barrera beat the piss out of Prince Naseem Hamed
I didn't cry when Zab Judah when pummeled by Amir Kahn
I didn't cry when Evander Holyfield was beaten by Lennox Lewsi
I didn't cry when John Ruiz was pounded by David Tua
I won't cry when Floyd Mayweather Jr. gets beaten by Pacman.
he was an asshole
rrtodd95 3 months ago
@rrtodd95 i did not enjoy it for 2 reasons:1)Like him o not,he was a gretat(may be the greatest)athlete
2 He already was suffered on parkinson disease
aleksandrpondios 2 months ago
@aleksandrpondios The greatest boxer of all time was Sugar Ray Robinson.
The greatest athlete of all time was either Alexander Karelin (most dominant athlete in their sport ever) or Wayne Gretzky (most scoring titles/4 championships and 8 hart trophys)
rrtodd95 2 months ago
@rrtodd95 and why not Sergey Bubka,Michel Felps.Steve Redgrave,Larisa Latinina,Bjorndallen?
aleksandrpondios 2 months ago
@aleksandrpondios Bubka at the Olympics twice and was out with an injury. Michel Phelps has only one Olympics to stand on, so he's still on the shelf as one of the all time greats
.
Larisa Latynina won gold in Artistic gymnastics, ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS!!
Bjørndalen? Which one, the biathlete from Italy, the brothers from Norway? I'm assuming you mean Ole Einar Bjørndalen.
He's a great but Karelin didn't give up a single point in 6 years of elite competition.
Gretzky crushed every record.
rrtodd95 2 months ago
@rrtodd95 IT IS FUNNY TO DISCUSS,GRETZCKY NEVER WON OLYMPIC O WORLD GOLD.I LIKE HOCKEY,BEING ORIGINLY FROM RUSSIA,BUT IS NOT SO POPULAR IN OHER COUNTREIS.I CAN TELL 20 ATHLETES AT LEAST,WITH THE SOME O BETTER ACHIVEMENTES.LATININA WON 18 OLYMPIC .MEDALS.BUBKA WON 1988 OLYMPIC GOLD,1983,1987,1991,1993,1995,1997 WORLD.SMASHED 35 RECORDES.PHELPS PARTICEPED IN 3 OLYMPIC GAMES AND WON 14 GOLD,YOU HAVE TO CHECK YOU KNOWLEDGES.AND WHY GRETZKY AND NOT PELE,FOOTBALL IS MUCH MORE POPULAR OVERALL THE WORLD
aleksandrpondios 2 months ago
@aleksandrpondios Overall athleticism required in Wrestling or Hockey makes it more impressive than the others.
You don't have to be physically tough to pole vault, swim, play soccer or compete in gymnastics. You do require, incredible hand eye co-ordination, strength and endurance but you don't have to dig down when you're hurt and push forward in those sports.
You may say, what about so and so gymnast that competed with a broken ankle but those are few and far between.
rrtodd95 2 months ago
@aleksandrpondios
Stupid comment, because NHL players did not participate in the Olympics until 1998, when Gretzky was 37 years old.
leafyutube 2 months ago
@leafyutube i dont gonna describe you comment as stupid,if you are really 42 years old you haveto be more poilte.I know everything about Cretzky career,so you have to read all the comment,j just said that there are many great athletes in many spotrs which are more popular than hockey,So it is unnormal to characterize Gretzky greatest athlete of all sport.
aleksandrpondios 2 months ago
@rrtodd95 Yeah when Floyd gets beaten by Pacman. Judging by Pacroid's last fight and his current refusal to negotiate a Mayweather fight, your little roid boy now has been exposed. He doesn't know what to do. LOl. you will cry when your boy gets his ass spanked 10 times over. Fighting like a wild amateur, he's going to get hit big time with the right leads before Roach has to stop Poochiao the PED user. Enjoy crying then.
musood6630 2 months ago
@musood6630 Pacman didn't sucker punch his last opponent when he got hurt
rrtodd95 2 months ago
@rrtodd95 That's because Pacroid didn't get an intentional illegal headbutt right off the face and had to get 6 stiches in his mouth. If I recall Pacroid was given a gift decision in his last fight against an old 38 year old Mexican legend at the end of his career, and having the disadvantage of being forced 2 weigth classes up. Makes Pacroid even more of a phony, couldn't beat an old man, whom had the weight disadvantage despite this being "the best Manny Pacquiao we have seen"
musood6630 2 months ago
@musood6630 He's never failed a drug test and he has been tested so Mayweather is making excuses for not fighting him.
Why didn't Mayweather fight Mosley, De Lahoya and Marquez until they where washed up?
Manny hunted those fights in their prime.
The only reason Mayweather wants to fight Manny now is that he looked bad in his last fight.
rrtodd95 2 months ago
@rrtodd95 The conventional drug test is a joke. James Toney and Sugar Shane Mosley admitted and were found guilty of steroid and EPO use despite passing all the tests.
Mayweather fought Mosley, De Lahoya before Pacquiao did you idiot. What's more important is he fought those 2 when they were champions. Pacquiao fought them both 1 year after Floyd had beat them and when they were washed up. Why lie for?
Manny always looks "bad" against fighters with brains. Marquez 38, 2 classes beat Manny
musood6630 2 months ago
@musood6630 YOUR the one making excuses. The test is a fraud, Mayweather never ducked anyone. He's not ducking Manny. I bet you're going to say he didn't beat up his girlfriends either and he didn't plead no contest. (fancy way of saying, I'm guilty but I don't want to say it) and I'm guessing he didn't assault that bouncer in spite of the fact that he was caught on camera doing it.
rrtodd95 2 months ago

- alone got him to survive even though the body had failed on him a long, long time ago.

sliat1981 4 months ago
It's amazing how much better Ali looked against Trevor Berbick---a fight that took place AFTER this one. I am aware that Holmes was superior to Berbick, but still----Berbick was a "good" boxer, a contender and a strong puncher. Ali actually showed offense against Berbick, and real movement (and stamina). He lost, but made it interesting---not at all dominated like he was against Holmes. Again, a young Ali would be a far different story for Larry. Holmes and Ali were two greats.
funktron4 4 months ago
@funktron4 Because Ali took stuff that messed him up to make the weight quickly. Ali said that, leading up to the fight, when he trained, he got tired before finishing a single mile. With Berbick, Ali trained properly. Considering that Ali ran 6 miles at the age of 40, what you saw was how Ali would fight if he was in his early forties. A true legend.
carmodifire 4 months ago
@carmodifire Yes, I had heard that he took diet pills that caused severe dehydration----had no idea it was that bad though. When you think about it, he ended his career---went down swinging----lost a fair but close decision to a contender who I think eventually won a share of the title, pathetic as that might be. My point is that he finished against a decent fighter. Meanwhile, Frazier's last fight was against Floyd "Jumbo" Cummings. Their last fights were a microcosm of their careers.
funktron4 4 months ago
Holmes is a top five all time heavyweight champion. I rate Ali slightly higher than Holmes, but it's close. Holmes fought Ali perfectly----he won convincingly but somehow managed to show respect for a man he considered a mentor---a class act by Holmes. This Ali was like the Willie Mays, maybe the greatest baseball player ever and a terrific defensive player, during his last season in baseball, stumbling around the outfield. An in-prime Ali would have been a much different challenge though.
funktron4 4 months ago
LARRY HOLMES IS ONE OF THE GREATEST FIGHTERS OF TIME. HE WASNT GIVEN A CREDIT HE DESERVED BECAUSE HE STARTED HIS CAREERA FROM BEING A SPARING PARTNER FOR ALI AND FRAZER. HE CHANGED THE WORLD OF BOXING BY BEATING ALI WITH A JAB. GREAT BOXERS IN OUR DAY LEARN THAT FROM LARRY. THAT IS HOW LEWIS BEAT MIKE TYSON WITH A JAB AND THAT IS HOW VLADIMIR AND VITALY KLITSCHKO BEAT THEIR OPPONENTS IN NOWADAYS.
davmul1980 4 months ago
I have little respect for Larry Holmes because it took him 11 rounds to bring down a Parkinson's afflicted Ali. In his position I would not have accepted the fight; Ali was in no condition to be fighting anybody, it was a really low down thing to beat on a man suffering from Parkinson's. I'm glad Tyson dropped his ass
IdiotInaBox79 5 months ago
@IdiotInaBox79 Shut your dumbass up! Holmes LOVED Ali, and he choose not to deliver a knock out punch to Ali, because he didn't want to see him on the ground! You know nothing about Larry Holmes relationship with Ali! You should not be allowed to speak!
Jemini29944 4 months ago
@IdiotInaBox79
i agree with you. larry Holmes just did it for shock value...he in no way shape or form could have beaten up on Ali had Ali been 31 like he was...Ali would have given him a boxing lesson smdh at the idiots.
luckylefty232323 4 months ago
That was only the 10th rd, I'm glad they stopped the fight...5 more rounds would have been a disaster for Ali...but hit happens to all the greats...Jordan, Ali, Baberuth, etc lol...they stay too long.
luckylefty232323 4 months ago
@luckylefty232323 Yea, I suppose they can't be the greatest forever
IdiotInaBox79 3 months ago
@IdiotInaBox79 yeah but the reason why it took Holmes 11 rounds for the win is because he was noticing that there was something seriously wrong with Ali so Holmes went a little easy as you can see his trainers were going overboard with the game plan telling him to nail Ali but like that other dude said he ignored their instructions because he seriously didn't wanna hurt Ali.
Brownpride480 3 months ago
@IdiotInaBox79
