What motorbike would you get if you had to do it all over again? It seems like you didnt have much luck with the BMWF650 or it was just a poorly made bike.
@alivewithpassion The F650 is a great motorcycle, very well made. The problems I had compared to most bikes doing the same have been less serious. The problem in this episode was only a shorting out cable, nothing to do with the fuel pump in the end. I would ride the F650 again but if I had to chose an alternative I'd go for the Suzuki DR600, just to keep things simple
Hi there! found your vids from a recommendation from another YouTube user - I have just watched all 18 vids and I think what you have achieved is amazing - I passed my bike licence last year and hope to start touring this year, starting with Wales, Scotland and then Europe!....already looking forward to your next episode and the next "toilet of the month!"
Graham, on the first aid kit, I'd recommend viewing "Level 1 kit" by 'nutnfancy' here on YT. He's very practical with a great perspective on preparation. Yes, the kit is for you primarily. Stay safe and healthy.
graham, you have gotten better at the episodes. I ride a Yamaha FZ1 and tour around California and Baja tent camping. Love it. you are the man for the 60k miles and 2+ years. Keep it going. Can't wait for episode 19.
Graham, awesome episodes!!! I just found them searching for adventure motorcycle touring. Watched all 18 in a row. Excellent stuff. Godspeed and safe travels. You going to have a party in LA when you get there? I would come down from Sacramento on my bike for that.
@knewton58 Glad you enjoying the videos. Wow, back to back episodes! I hope you spotted that my videoing techniques have improved with time. I'll be hitting the U.S. again in the spring so keep your eyes open for me
Graham, just curious - do you carry any type of first aid kit? Sorry if you have already mentioned that in your previous installments but I couldn't remember. Cheers!
@osimnod I do carry a basic first aid kit. I had much more comprehensive kit before but I lost it. The reason I carry one is solely for the purpose of patching me up in case of an accident but in truth I could do a much better job at putting a kit together if I made the effort
Graham, you are attracting a large following of fans! And you've made tremendous time from Panama City to Guatemala - better road conditions? I would encourage you to post your thoughts on bike/gear/mechanical Q&A and video technique/editing on separate "channels" on YT - just to keep the format going, IMHO.
@osimnod My camcorder has just broken down but I think you're right about an opportunity to share some of my thoughts (trying to get a new camcorder imported to me). Having spent years riding a Vespa I've only just started to consider myself a "biker" but I think after so many miles on the road I've probably picked up some valid opinions to share
@DanoPomo I shipped the bike with Girag for $650; I flew with Aires for $235. I think the cost to fly from Panama to Colombia is $900; I've no idea why it costs more to fly South. To ship on a yacht costs from $800 - $850, I did it on the way south but thought it was an utter rip off so I flew back.
Great footage as always , if only your electrical / mechanical skills were as good as your film making talent . I suppose Being too self sufficient you wouldn't meet the helpful souls on your journey . Keep going
@1970savage I like your thinking. Every problem is a learning curve, i could have done without breaking down in the jungle though. I agree though, you definitely get to see the good side of human nature when you need help
Toilet of the month was a funky affair, damn sight better than some of the death-traps you've shown us. Good to see that you've had good luck in finding great people to help you on your trip! Its refreshing to know that there is good people the world over; besides doing your trip of a life time, you do realize that you are about on par with Ted Simon now?!
*Well mate, I want to thank you for all your vids/tips, & may you have fair weather & a safe journey, always; cheers.
@anzac2404 on par with Ted Simon? In my dreams... he is the godfather of overland motorcyclists. Glad the toilet of the month pleased you... got a new feature to replace it with now for the next installment
@easyg1409, Come on Graham, stop the english modesty LOL...nearly 60,000 miles & counting; & I think you will find there were many before Ted was on the scene, & they did it on some old bone-rattler's; not that what Ted has done isn't great BUT you on the other hand have funded your trip yourself!
Besides the ups & downs, its been the good people along the way that help "make" the trip, which inturn is priceless PR; the corruption still sucks! Have a great Christmas & stay safe, cheers ;-)
Congratulations for your completed tour around Southamerica!!. It`s been a while since we met in Platypus in Bogotá, I hope your CentralAmerica leg will be good, at least you will not have such long road days
great vid as always! lovely to see your cherub face LOL. We'd love to know what you would make of the sanitary aspects (or lack of) in India......perhaps an idea for your next trip....you'd make some great videos!? BTW - i had the exact same problem with my frame bolts snaping whilst riding in Mongolia.
A DR600 you say, how about a Suzuki DL650 expedition ? i got that and i just started my motorsycle adventures :) its realy a great bike.
