When I play recon, I use iron sights and run around instead of sitting still and looking through a scope. It helps to think of your sniper rifle as a powerful single shot assault rifle.

It does suck that the sniper aint exactly the best at taking objectives or helping your team because it's so much fun to play as the sniper, sure you can get a lot of kills and the class certainly isn't worthless but compared to the others it just doesn't stack up. Played 2 matches yesterday, same map, same server, was doing really well as Sniper, we lost, next game got less kills as Assault but I captured more points/healed and we won, this isn't solid evidence for useless snipers but still.

Shibby, try either an all kit weapon, or go L96 ACOG, straight pull bolt and suppressor. Use the MP443 suppressed pistol and be a stealthy player. In rush you can use it to pick of people guarding the M-COM, then run in on a flank route and arm objectives. the ACOG has no scope glare so you remain hidden. I found this to be somewhat successful while playing the objective. Give it a try! :)

@Taziod Sweet dude! I play on hardcore sometimes, I find that the extra health of vanilla sometimes makes it easier to get away or finish them off with the pistol. I agree that the close range stuff is better on hardcore if you can land the first shot. They are both fun though. It's awesome that someone else plays that kit. :)

Yea, they boned the equipment for the Recon, the most useful is the SOFLAM which doesn't reward the user with enough points if it does help take something out like a helicopter, and the MAV is just super troll mode because it splatters people and the hitbox is super tiny. If a real MAV was trying to hit me I'd grab it and fucking smash it into the ground. Then I'd find the Recon who keeps suiciding to get another MAV and kill him with a flamethrower.

Given all the BF3 MLG footage I've seen:

-Medics is obviously the most common loadout since the ability to revive and heal is vital to a team.

-Engineers are in second. They excel in CQC, and those launchers do a pretty good job in fishing out people hiding in cover.

-Only 1 or 2 support per team; you probably won't be alive long enough to burn through all your ammo anyways

-A few Recon can be used as a strong defensive class or to counter enemies with superior cover.

shibbeh! use the flash suppressor that comes with the l96. There seems to be no noticeable loss of accuracy. It's a good choice since snipers are more or less impossible to use with the normal suppressor

Hey Shibby, what do you think about Recon's being the overwatch/spawn point for the squad? Mostly spotting enemies and weakening enemies for his/her own team mates to have an easier time to take them out? This is sort of how I've always viewed Recon/Sniper class since BF 2 and 2142. I don't play the class often as I'm an assault/medic guy but when I do I usually play it in this way and end up with a pretty good score most of the time. Sort of like the only revive/no shots assault

Being a "Sniper" and being a "Recon" are completely different. I frequently play recon without sniper rifles using the PDW's instead. I make great use of the mav/tugs/soflam. All of which are awesome help especially if I'm squad leading as it allows me to direct my squad around and guide them around objectives. Their gadgets are perfectly fine and it is your own opinion if you don't like them. I however love being able to see my enemies before they know I'm there.

I stay at a safe yet close distance with a portable spawn point beside me i them place down my mav and fly it to a safe spot next to the objective then i clear the area out of enemys run in with my pistol to stay safe then run out (and protect it from my spot on rush)

Sniping in BF3 is pretty good, but the maps. The maps do not go to well for snipers, I mean a few, but not really. Also, the guns are kinda dumb. The SKS it really stupid, way to spamable and the MA045, SV98, and L96 are ALL the same stats, no difference. Lastly, it takes WAY to long to get the 50 or M96. I mean like 45k?? Really, the sniper unlocks were over a 1000 points away all the way to the first unlock.

@juicysteak117 stats on weapons must be changed, but I disagree with you on the maps point. The maps are good for snipers, you just have to be a very good, dynamic sniper - which I'm not. Stat changes to weapons and the potential of one shot chest kills will make maps appear far more sniper friendly - but would this be to the greater detriment of the game, especially in twelve man team situations on console? would it become a snipe fest with little to no close combat?

I do enjoy sniping in bf3 but it really depends. The semi-auto snipers in the game are a joke, the gadgets i think are good and useful. Its just that the maps dont really have long clearings with good sniping places like in bad company and some of the new, more liner maps also make me move away from recon. Also once again they made the last boltaction unlock extremely powerful but with low fire rate... Why would anyone use it BECAUSE IT STILL NEEDS A HEADSHOT TO KILL INSTANTLY, you might aswell

The BC2 recon was the ultimate "Skill Rewarding" class. It takes a good amount when your assessing bullet drop, pistol flexibility, probability, leading your target, choosing targets, getting close range tank destruction's, and so forth. In BF3 they butcher the class by taking away the guile suit, C4, and motion balls. Not to mention the additions to mussel-flare and lens-flare. I would be fine if they added those negatives if I could still use the last games standard equipment.
