@FpsMerc Its a very outdated card, this review was done over 2 years ago. My guess would be around 150-250 US dollars. However you really shouldnt consider getting this unless you are looking for minimal graphics performance. If you are looking to play games, or do some major rendering you should consider the 5000 series.
@LukeyBoyAUS: you're wrong and you know it. You're just saying that to get a reaction from someone. But in case you're not, let me lighthen something up for you. If your graphic card is 15c udner load. That means its very cold in the room you're sitting in. We're talking about a max room temperatur of 15c. Which I highly doubt you're sitting in. The program that monitor that temperatur of your graphic card, is very incorrect. In fact, its most likley the card is around 40c idle and 70c load.
@webdigo lol sry for the miss understanding i said it goes up by 15 , not it runs at 15, and yes you are spot on with those temps in your comment, 40c - 50c idle but under load max i have had is 65c. sry bout my poor sentence structure :S
@LukeyBoyAUS: No. In fact I thik you just made this post of yours, to get a reaction from someone. But if thats not the option, allow me to ligthen things up for you. If your graphic card is 15c under load, that means your room temperatur is MAX 16c. And I highly doubt you room temperatur is that low. The program which measure the temperatur of your graphic card is failing big time. Its more likley 35-40idle and 65-75 load.
Dude, 2x 6 pin PCI connectors? I wanted to run 2 of these babies in Xfire. No dice with that sort of power consumption! Who the shit tits designs this? I have an 880W PSU and it only has 2x 6pin PCI connectors (6 pin + 2pin). 2x 4850's or 1 4870? what should I do?
If you want 4870 crossfire performance then go with 5770 crossfire. The 5770 is just about equal to the 4870 with GPU performance and a single 5770 requires only one 6 pin connector instead of 2.
@a7x5631 Open up Catalyst Control Center and enable manual fan control. Usually 35%-40% speed is fine for me for non-gaming. I usually get around 50c or less. Kicking it up to 45%-50% while gaming brings it around 65-70c.
Radeon 48xx series cards are hot. Its better for them to sit at a similar speed under idle and load. 60 to 70 degrees idling will only increase to about 80 to 90 under load. Its much better than flying from 30 degrees to 90 degrees.
Don't worry about your temps unless its over 110 degrees

UV reactive means if you get a UV light in your case that it will glow the color that it says it will.
the difference in MHZ is kinda like the speed of how fast things are processed. Thus why people overclock their PC's to make them go faster. such that it kills the parts faster, but it gives a little to a lot better performance. intel i7 920 CPU standard is 2.66ghz, it's usually OC to 4.2ghz ish.

Well the 4890 isn't much more expensive. If you can afford it get the 4890. Otherwise get a 4870. They are very powerful and you don't need to overclock them
@votin Not in all cases. The GTX 480 is about $400 to $450. (Just an example) The dual-GPU 5970 is $500. The GTX 480 *MOST* of the time is below the 5970. Yea good graphics, i don't mean Vista, There is a 64 bit version of XP, 32-bit can only use about 3.5 gb of your ram, with an 64-bit OS you can use everything ;)
64bit Windows XP kinda sucks. Go with Vista 64 bit, and with this card it can perform excellent since Vista enables directx 10, and XP can only perform with directx9.0c

Look into downloading a program called Speedfan. Or Google some graphic card fan controllers, play around with speeds till it is at a reasonable temp.
ATi Radeon is the company ati radeon doesnt add a boost or anything ati is just short for ati radeon graphics cards HiS is one of the companys that made the 4870.. everything like the power of the 4870 and its rv chip are thought of by ati radeon which is part of amd but other companys make them and make clocks and stuff how they want err personally i think HIs is a very good quality company that has good heatsinks and good cooling and higher clocked cards than other companies
u could run a single 4870 with no problems. It's a decent CPU. Im not sure about those two cards in crossfire with that CPU though as i heard the older Phenoms are pretty shit. But if u would like to go with these in crossfire then i would probably do some more researc in order to get max performance. :)

A small mistake in this review, you say the auto adjustment of the fan gives you the best cooling possible.
This is not true, it is the best when you turn it on 100% constant :p That will probably make some noise though (well my GTX 285 is very noisy at 100%)
Heya man, thanks a ton. Yeah it helps a lot. To be honest I'm building my second computer ever and I'm getting so confused on what card to get, so now I can finally sleep at night since I think I'll get this one--lol. Thanks a bunch again. :)
I never played to buy any of these new cards that required you to connect your PSU up to it. I only deal with pci cards and pcie cards that does not require power connectors.
Nope, i am just fine with cards that do not require power connectors. Games runs just fine. Perfect fps to me is 20-30, thats perfect. Even tho i get up to 60-200fps in some games.
Funny, I bought this EXACT same card about 2 weeks ago before I saw this vid. I guess I did make a good choice. Now I just need to save a little more money to buy my second one ;D
4850x2 is faster in games tht support crossfire. 4870 is much faster in ones that dont. 4850x2 might suffer from microstuttering but im really not too sure if it does. The 4870x2 wasnt too bad but not sure about 4850x2. you could probably save 50 quid more and get 2 4870 512mb versions in CF.

u could run a single 4870 with no problems.

Does anyone how loud this thing gets, off hand?

Heya man, thanks a ton. Yeah it helps a lot. To be honest I'm building my second computer ever and I'm getting so confused on what card to get, so now I can finally sleep at night since I think I'll get this one--lol. Thanks a bunch again. :)

I never played to buy any of these new cards that required you to connect your PSU up to it. I only deal with pci cards and pcie cards that does not require power connectors.
CrusaderU2K 2 years ago
CrusaderU2K then u will end up with shit cards every time as all the good cards need extra power
arranmc182 2 years ago
Nope, i am just fine with cards that do not require power connectors. Games runs just fine. Perfect fps to me is 20-30, thats perfect. Even tho i get up to 60-200fps in some games.

I think i may be more attracted to graphics cards than the opposite sex.
And i mean, i am like, a giant pervert.

I'm sure there are tons of kids walking around with tons of money...
the good thing is their money supports the High-end business well, while they don't have any idea what their money spend for

Funny, I bought this EXACT same card about 2 weeks ago before I saw this vid. I guess I did make a good choice. Now I just need to save a little more money to buy my second one ;D
ChaosThePirate 2 years ago
Does anyone know if the ATI 4850 x2 will be faster than this HIS HD 4870 IceQ 4+ Turbo which is an upgrade from the regular 4870.
Please experienced people.
Cyberman86 2 years ago
4850x2 is faster in games tht support crossfire. 4870 is much faster in ones that dont. 4850x2 might suffer from microstuttering but im really not too sure if it does. The 4870x2 wasnt too bad but not sure about 4850x2. you could probably save 50 quid more and get 2 4870 512mb versions in CF.
