The 3rd scene was missing from the 2007 film! The whole extra humiliation game (considering Thea's whereabouts) was simply not there! But why? That was great on the original film so the score was really 2-1!
Hollywood rapes another classic with the 2007 abortion of this classic. Get Carter, The Italian Job, The Taking of Pelham 1.2.3 went down the same road. Get the finger out and produce something original as this film.
@Toonamik In my opinion the older version produced some of the best acting within the last half of the 20th century. It's quite extraordinary anyone could view Mr. Olivier's and Caine's acting as anything other than magnificent.
"Why don't I keep lightly tapping your head with a poker, 'till the lump comes up!" OK, so what's this movie about? It looks great but I wanna know the plot. Somethin' about these two guys making a game out of killing or something?
This one's on my top 10 list of all-time favorite films. Some of the best dialog in any movie I have ever had the pleasure to watch, I mean, how can you top lines like this: (Andrew): "If I choose to say that my wife converses like a child of six, and makes love like an extinct shellfish, I shall!!!"
2 powerhouse performances, and I also count the house/grounds a character as well. An amazing, unbelievably great film. I covet my DVD, which I just watched yesterday.
This movie is almost in the same league as masterpieces such as The Godfather: Part II, 12 Angry Men, Rear Window and many more. I would give this movie a 9/10. It's a shame this movie doesn't have more attention.
Thank you firebro for bringing a fantastc lost in time film to the attension of a new audience. Filmed in a beautifull house with wonderful antiques and automitoms, laurance you can see really enjoyed himself playing the lord of the manor /cleaner,spik,gardener etc .
I liked the part when Michael Caine was playing the inspector and he said to Laurence Olivier, "I noticed that you have a spot a blood on the bannister up 'ere." And Laurence said, "Blood?! What blood?!" and then he throws his newspaper over his head to go and inspect the blood. I don't know why I found that part funny.
There is only one real sleuth: this!!!

I liked the remake very much.
I believe that Jude Law preformed excellently.
And Caine... well of course he did well. He always deliver.
