i know i'm late to the party on this one, but it's clear to me she is NOT lip-syncing, you can tell when someone is actually singing just by watching how they breathe and their stance when they stand. she is actually singing. of course there will be a difference between this performance and the one on the cd, since that was recorded in a studio.
that being said... i've always loved this song, it's always had a special meaning for me, in finding the light in the darkness, no matter how bad
this is an isnpiring song for those who suffer these would be your theme because if you feel so cold or just something dark happened remember the fire within you would always spark
you can only imagine how many kids are apart of this. No matter what happens, we will rise above it. Thats what make me love America. Plus, if there is a threat in the future we would not be able to handle, The United States would fight and end it together. What a grand flag im apart of! Thanks for the song. its amazing!
Christina Aguilera had to lip-sync too. It's because of the acoustics of the stadium, it's not because they CAN'T SING
and trust me Christina can sing anywhere anytime and sound flawless. it's just the speakers in the olympic stadium, it would've sounded shitty on live tv if they sang live
shes lip syncing. if she was really singing, you would be able to see her breathe...and you cant..also listen to the actual recorded song and its exactly the same..kids and all..even instruments
She is an amazing vocalist but No way...It was Utah, in the dead of winter...she had to be lip syncing. It's very hard to keep your voice warm in that type of cold and she's only wearing a turtle neck.
I absolutely love her! She is my favorite artist ever. I would LOVE to have the opportunity to meet her someday, as I have been a fan of hers since 1st grade (I am now a sophomore in college). It's not likely, but it would be exciting.
Opening ceremony WAS prerecorded.HAD to be!!!Tempereture was in low teens at the start and reached single digits during and it would be impossible to tune and to keep all instrumens tuned. You can also do some serious damage to your voice if you sing in such low temperatures.Performance was still great!!!Truly once in a lifetime experience and I was there!
dude... it's the olympics. i don't care how good you are, you don't wanna screw up @ that venue...
LeAnn Rimes is a great singer, we all know it. it doesn't matter if she lip sync'd this one... it's 4 minutes in front of 4 billion people. I would've done it, so would whitney, so would mariah. you just can't control how things sound in an area that big...
She did NOT lip synch. John Tesh is amazing. Didn't he do these okympics too? If he did he nothing less than a stellar job, but then that's to be expected
What you're seeing is a sound engineer's nightmare: a live 50-piece orchestra, a chorus of a few hundred kids who move, and a 19 year-old superstar, standing on a moving platform, and knocking it out of the park, literally: a big, open stadium, during a once-and-only-once performance for half a billion people. Not only did LeAnn NOT lip-sync this, she put so much effort into her performance that she forgot the directions and tilted her head DOWN into the mike, forcing the director to cut away.
Great song, great performance. I conduct the former 2002 Olympic Children's Choir right here in Salt Lake City. I still have some of these kids from the Opening and Closing Ceremonies - they're all teenagers now, but their hearts are still very young. I absolutely adore them.
This song is so beautiful... so I wont take part of your "lip-syncing-discussion".. X) Beacuse I don't think se would ever have to... I love this song, we always sing it in school, we will perform it on our christmas consert.. I think that will sound very beautiful
it's just a shame that people do lip-sync, I think... maybe they have throath-problems sometimes, but there are those who doesn't but who lip-syncs anyway,.. a shame as I said.
I was there and I promise that it was not lip synced. The way she sang it there and the way that it is on the cd that has the music from the opening ceremonies is totally different!
You were there? Wow, must've been fun, although there's a certain safety of knowing you're here in America, I would love to be at an international Olympics, like last year at Torino. Did you get a peek at athlete's village?
I think this is lip-synced, but only because she is singing to the world, what nerves, and along with that, the cold alone would kill anyone's ability to really blow at the end of this song. Still amazing though.
it's lip synched, you can tell by the effort exerted by her that she isn't pumped it into that mic, she's no where near out of breath. I know she's an amazing singer but you still have to breathe more when you're really singing. Plus it was really cold and your voice will be different in the low temps.
after i wrote my comment i realized that it could well be lip synced. and if it's lip synced, completely understandable and it might even make more sense to use the recording. can you imagine if something went wrong?? :)
I'm in the music business, and I happened to be there with the kids. I know that the kids were lip-synced, but I'm not sure about LeAnn. As a general rule, it's always safer to use the pre-recorded version at such an important event, so I wouldn't be surprised. I was surprised, though, was the mastering of this song on the actual CD was too hot, and there is some distortion. I don't know if it was intentional, but it sure wasn't pleasing to my ears.
i think she's an amazing singer but she is lip syncing this whole song...i listened to a phrase, paused it and listen to the same phrase on the CD and it sounded literally EXACTLY the same. i did that for almost every line in the song like the high notes and the runs wound exactly the same with is almost impossible to do but i don't blame her because it's a hard song to sing and you wouldn't wanna mess up in front of all those people but she was DEFINITELY lip syncing it lol but i still love her
she didn't lip sync. pretty sure we would know by now if she did...this was so amazing i live in utah and our opening ceremonies were the best. HANDS DOWN. i wish i could have been to the actual ceremonies. but instead i got to watch them live on tv. but it's all good.
@yoda654371 this opening ceremony was very good indeed, but I also loved the Altanta opening with Celine Dion. Also check out Delta Goodrem with the song Together we are one. She opened the Commonwealth Games in Australia.
this song....at least this performance I think was lip synced. Either that, or her actual live performance was put on CD. Every pitch, every note of the song, the timing is all identical to the CD version.
it definitely wasn't lipsinged. the studio version of this song is different than this one. it must have been her live performance that was put on cd you have.
I have this taped on VHS and have been meaning to post it but you did it for me. This was the pivotal moment of that opening ceremony and was very touching. The faces of those children say it all. Thankyou for posting.

Not that she isn't the best singer ever even if she did lip sync ;)

LeAnn RARELY lip syncs. She did here because of the venue. They can't get the audio to sound right for live performances. Everybody lip syncs

its lip synced. I know because I extracted the audio from this, and matched it exactly to the music from the CD track
