@lillmisspretty I cant remember exactly how long it took me as it was over a year ago that I did this - about a few hours to do the plaque, bear & abc cubes & a few hours to bake the cupcakes, round cake & then to decorate them.
Its very cute.. the colors and the theme of the cakes matches with the occasion so well..how did you write the alphabets so perfectly?...Did you use stencil?
Sorry not sure if I answered your question before so am doing so now. I use Wilton's 'Make any message letter press' for the letters & on the bear's face I used a method by another youtube user by the user name of aine2. She has a tutorial on how to make the bear. Hope that helps ; )
This has been mainly just a hobby but I have been doing some orders for friends & family. I am looking into taking more orders in the future & will set up a website when I have more time on my hands. I will let people know when I do. Thank you so much for the interest ; )
It is fondant icing & you can buy it from any cake decorating supply shop - Bakery sugarcraft is one of them. If you want to buy it in bulk -eg 7kg lots for $41 - you can buy from Dijon foods in the hills district. You can buy Wilton products from BSC too but you can look on line as well or from ebay - or from the wilton website - but you have to pay for postage & convert the $ over to $Au. Good luck ; )
Thanks! The icing on the cupcakes is fondant icing. The only part that has royal icing is the white bits on the cubes to glue it together. Try doing a search on youtube for how to make royal icing. You can buy a packet mix & add water. It's just simply egg whites with icing sugar or powdered sugar mixed until you get the right consistancy - soft peak for writing, firm peak for borders; )
I got it in Australia but it's made by Wilton so you can probably track it down that way - it's call 'Make any message letter press' -it's meant to be used so that you end up piping over the impression. Just go on the Wilton website. They sell it quite cheap there - from memory about $10? Good luck!
Fondant is just the name for the type of icing used to cover the cake - it's very smooth & used a lot on wedding cakes to get that smooth flawless look. You can make almost anything in fondant. The other main type of icing people use to cover cakes is buttercream icing. If you decorate cakes - you mainly choose one of these main methods to cover a cake ; )
Nice to see another aussie in the youtube cake decorating world! (I'm in Melbourne but but grew up in and lived in Sydney till 4 years ago). Your cake is gorgeous. Once I find out how to do videos on youtube I'll post some...Im only new to cake decorating. Thanks for putting this on, I lvoe it!
I wish had made them with cake inside as it would have been easier to!. You could cut up some cupcakes into the shape of cubes then just cover them with fondant hiding the join under the bottom so you dont have to do the royal icing joints. Then you could just press in the letters before it dries.
I tried to make them out of solid fondant but it was to soft so when I tried to press the letters in it just wouldn't hold it's shape. In the end for each cube - I ended up cutting out 6 square sides (with the a letter pressed in each one) and let it dry.
Then joining them together to make the cube with piped white royal icing and a big round ball of fondant in the middle to hold the sides up from collapsing as it dried. The ball of fondant inside had plenty of royal icing around it to glue the sides on. The royal icing on the outside was done after the cube was set to hide the joints. Good luck!
I love your cake! you did a good job! I can't wait to make my first fondant cake!! :)

Hi, That's a very nice cake, and so much detail.
I am in Sydney too.
Can I ask you how you got the smoothness on the cupcakes? what icing is that? or is it fondant? and where do you buy fondant from?
Finally, where do you buy Wilton from in Sydney. Is it Bakery sugar craft?
Well done.

Buttercreme icing works pretty good too does it not?
If you have a bulk barn or bulk food store you can get some good buttercreme icing there.
It's good to me, may not be professional but you never know :)
Love the cake btw, very good!
