  • Hitchens often makes (or made) good points. But this is just a non-sequitur. The question put was on Palestine; on the Israeli occupation of what are internationally recognized Palestinian territories. What does THAT have to do with human rights violations in Islamic countries? Fatah are in any case secular, and are bitter rivals of the right-wing Jew-hating Hamas.

  • The world lost a great man! May the Lord rest his soul.

  • Not a fan of big power violence? He strongly supported the US invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. When he was screaming bloody murder about the Soviets supporting the Pol Pot regime in the 1970's, did you see him even give a mention to the even worse atrocities the US were supporting in East Timor AT THE EXACT SAME TIME. No, you didn't, and for the reasons i mentioned. If you want more examples i can give them if you want. So yes, he is an apologist for state violence, when 'we' carry it out.

  • @TeifiValley123 No that's not true. The man wasn't even a part of the "we" during the atrocities of East Timor,he was still a British national. And I can point you to to times he cites Chomsky's speaking out and resistance to the genocide in East Timor with astute reference and earned pride for him.He also cited the murder of Sérgio Vieira de Mello by Abu Musab Al Zarqawi as part of his polemic for violence against "another" latent great power Iraq.Sérgio Vieira de Mello helped the people of East

  • @Christian121y He was part of the 'we' because its was the US, UK and Dutch support in military and political aid which allowed the atrocities in Timor to take place. Find me a sentence where he condemns the UK for being complicit in the genocide at the time they were taking place.

Sérgio Vieira de Mello? In the article youre reading from, he's using his death as a reason for the occupations in the middle east. Towing the same old line of 'they are the bad guys and its up to us to stop them'

  • @TeifiValley123 Timor arise from the ashes of the Indonesian occupation and Christopher Hitchens took it as a personal blow when the man died.Add in the fact that Henry Kissinger of all people was supportive of the extirpation of East Timor and you have to either be a total ignoramus or a total jackass to say with a straight face that Christopher Hitchens is "an apologist for state violence".Try me with the more examples too,I'll be waiting.

  • i hope hitchens recovers, he is too brilliant to lose

  • @USANACOSoCOM Hitchens is an idiot? I don't think so

  • @fsan2005 Maybe he's not an idiot, but he's a vulgar propagandist and an apologist for state violence. He uses his wise accent, his use of exotic and arcane language to make out as if he's an all knowing genius, that his view is the correct one and mere mortals like you and I should hold that view too, because he does. We shouldn't because Hitchens thinks that if the US and Britain commit war crimes and mass murder it should be overlooked, wheras if our enemies did it, he'd scream bloody murder

  • @TeifiValley123 HERP DERP

Allies incinerated hundreds of thousands of people in Dresden during WW2.

Axis forces kill tens of millions of people in WW2 including methods such as "strategic" bombing.

    Therefore Allies=Axis

Now apply this logic to War On Terror...........

    CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS IS AN IDIOT.

    DERP.

  • @Christian121y Dont make the mistake of thinking these people are stupid. Hitchens knows exactly what he's saying, and he knows perfectly well (as you pointed out) that his logic is flawed. But his function in the world is to make excuses & apologetics for US government aggression abroad etc. It goes without saying that do do this, he cant ever admit hes wrong.

PS is there really a need to call me DERP, or whatever? Why didnt you just ask WHY i thought he wasnt stupid, instead of name calling?

  • @TeifiValley123 Well I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough in insulting you and your tepid moral relativism.I was NOT agreeing with you AT ALL.I was making fun of your simple minded thinking in even considering the possibility that people like Christopher Hitchens "overlook" the warcrimes commited by the victims in this war against the aggresors all the while screaming bloody murder when suicide bombers bloodily murder thousands of human beings(who many times are simply of no strategic value at all)

  • @TeifiValley123 That's why I used the Strategic Bombing example.

You either have to be a fascist sympathizer or complete imbecile(*cough* paleocon *cough*) to say in the middle of a war (or even in the aftermath of a war) against genocidal fascism that "our" war crimes cannot be "overlooked' since they're presumably morally equivalent to the war crimes committed by the "other" side.Dresden was a war crime.Holocaust was a war crime. Therefore they should be put in the same light.

  • @TeifiValley123 Torture was a war crime. The September 11 attacks, the destruction of the Al-Askari Mosque, the massacres against the "Rafidah" in both Afghanistan and Iraq, the beheading of atheists, the usage of suicide bombing itself, these are all war crimes.

Then I guess HERP DERP,I'm going to assume these are morally equivalent since after all they're BOTH crimes.

    DERP.

(hint if you don't see my sarcasm now, then you're never going to see it)

  • @Christian121y You've just gone off into space, and i didnt assume you agreed with me. I said that Hitchens is an apologist for state violence. And as most 'intellectuals' do, he holds a double standard. He thinks big powers are exceptional in that when their governments commit crimes of vast proportions, they are somehow unanswerable to the same charges that would be levelled at our 'enemies' or people who we dont like, such as Iran or Venezuela. You typed a lot but i'm still no better off.

  • @TeifiValley123 You know nothing of Christopher Hitchens if you honestly think he has a fetish for "big" power violence.Embarrassingly so.

  • @USANACOSoCOM galloway is sucking islamic cock somewhere.
