the camera saves video and audio combined as single files in .mod format. although no software seems to support this it is easy to convert them (see my .mod to .mpg vid)

I returned it to the store and traded it in for a JVC GZ-MG330-A. A tiny bit more expensive but comes with the editing software. The video quality on both are very good.
all you do is change the file from .MOD to .MPEG and it works with any editing software. i have this cam. and i edit it and everything. i have test clips on my profile if you wanna check it out

i'm glad u like it. It'd reccomend it coz it's small, records to only sd/sdhc card, it has 35x optical (70x digital) zoom and it has a special low quality 4:3 setting for youtube!

But it is by no means difficult. I'm not running windows at the mo ( i know i switch oses alot) so i've not had a chance to poke around at the provided software. I'm by no means a genius at editing vids (all my vids are un edited as u can prob tell).
i don't have musch experiance with wmm so i donno what files it supports, try converting the .mod to .mpg (if wmm supports .mpg then ur laughing). If all else fails try converting the .mpg to .wmv using super (watch my vid on this software) because wmm will support .wmv or wav coz these are microsoft file types

i would highly recommend it as it fits the simple "point and shoot" market perfectly. The mic on it is pretty damn good and it records to sd/sdhc cards so it is very compact and the memory is up to 16gb(when using these cards). The zoom is amazing also so if you just want a compact camera for uploading holiday vids to youtube this is the camera for you and then some!!! It even has a 4:3 low quality mode ideal for youtube! with higher quality when u need it! the above vid is 16:9 (black bars)

the only drawback is that the camera records in a stange file format but this can be sloved by right clicking on the file and changing the file to a .mp4 if u like i can do a video on how to do it

In my experience the quality of the mic is more then enough for shooting stuff yourself and for picking up sounds around you! As for the video quality there are several quality settings to choose from ranging from a dedicated "youtube" mode which shoots in 4:3 in a low quality....
I bought this camcorder last week and I'm quite pleased. The only thing that would've made it better would've been the option to add an external mic. Not sure why there was a brief wave by the manufacturers to do away with that.
an external mic is only really usefull on a professional camera eg if you have a clip on mic and ur talking to the camera but for recording vids urself i find this camera picks up everything!
the camera comes with a windows software cd (with an option to download a mac compatible version). That i guess that when the camera is connected via usb and u press the upload button (i cannot verify coz i'm on linux). But in fairness don't get the camera just for that coz just plug it in via usb and any OS (windows/mac/linux) will recognise the camera as an external storage device and u can just view the files
JVC cameras save as .mod files (for some reason) which no media player will play (trust me). Rename any video files you've transfered to ur pc to .mpg this'll solve that problem.

if you upload videos in hd resolution either 720p (1280x720) or full HD 1080p (1920x1080) then u should get the HD option

i would suggest you use avi, mpg or mp4 file formats as those are the most common. my mod to mpg vid shows how easy that convertion is.
