GCE days. Memories, 16 year old, school friends, warm summer evening, on the beach, beer, prog rock, days later off to sea and travelled the world. Still got the old vinyls.
Rendben haver.
Abból is a legjobbak közül való.
TYA was part of that British Blues scene at the time and NOT the British Invasion. Along with Savoy Brown, John Mayall, The Yardbirds, Spencer Davis, Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack and the like. Don't forget that all those bands were about the music and the blues and NOT pop hits. Thats why its seems so "real" because it was real. Thats how bands could get record deals without a top single.
TYA had a sound like no others. UNBELIEVABLE. This is what rock 'n' roll is all about. I didn't discover them until I was in high school in the 70's. This may be the song that consumately defines their sound.
Interesting to hear some of his signature licks in a few different songs. Alvin Lee's one of my all time guitar heroes and 10 Y.A. was a well deserving band.
When I was a student in the UK, I salivated over music like this but could ill afford them. Got qualified as a Chartered Accountant went back to London after 20 years and collected all I could the likes of TYA, Jethro Tull, Led Zep, YES, etc in CD format. Now I'm a happy 60 year old still listening to those guys and reminiscing the cold winter days that I walked along Oxford St. window shopping at HMV.
@pontianutube heehee, fabulous, I am 43 years young and have been listening to this music since the age of 17. started all off with the velvet underground.
I'm trying to get every one hit wonder in the UK during the 1970's, if anyone has the 7" single of this track, would you be so kind as to send it to me thanks!
@Noacuervo I don't know when you were born but, I feel for you. This is the stuff I grew up on. (high school-early to mid 70's) If I had to grow up to some of the stuff their putting out these days I'd have to OD or put a bullet in my head.
I was 7 when my father gave me this CD...and I imediatly loved this song and I wanted to learn guitar! Today I love rock and good music...I still love this one... I'm sure that if my father didn't make me listen to it I would listen to some crappy music today and I would have never wanted to play the guitar... Thanks Dad! =)
This solo, of this particular version ,should be into the top ten list of the best solos ever.It s well built,in harmony and has a wonderfull, powerfull tuch of finess. Thanks mister Alvin Lee.
I've got this on a single. It has an edited studio version on the A side, and a live version (from Fillmore East, I think) playing at 33 rpm on the B side. I think it reached no 10 in the UK charts in 1970.
I don't think we did doobies back then...maybe like this......smoke a bone from the lid of Mexican pot you just bought for $20 then slip in that 8 track LOL. How did we tolerate 8 tracks ? I played this album till the grooves were worn out! Flower Power forever!!!!!!

@PhiZappaCrappa hehehe.... what about acapolco gold or mauiwowie?? my old man said the hardest was choosing which one 1st.. Ten years after 'love like a man' or roll-up, so he said it semed easier to do both at same time lol = )
@empath06 Same here. Barrel Sunshine, headphones and TYA. Wouldn't do it again, happy to have survived it (listen carefully kidz, don't even think about it) but at the time ... Those were the days. Your initials wouldn't happen to be JV would they ??? Lost contact with my old trippin' bud over the years. No Facebook ....no idea. Hey, ya never know.
I have tried to think of a bad TYA song. Came up blank. Alvin's guitar was always on fire. They rocked with the best. Their entire catalog is an absolute must.
In 1969 when I bought Stonedhenge & Ssssh on vinyl I was 18 and I was overwhelmed at Alvin Lee and the guys. Just listened again after 30 years and they were amazing.
I remember and it was that time when Pink Floyd came out with "echos" and some others and then this song.....boy what a guitar solo......TYA forever !!!!!!! LOVE IT.
@Sm0key90 this was the 1st song played at my old man's funeral last year after his suicide.. chin up bro, you will be ok.. i know what your going though, the pain may never go, bt like me i hope you have some great memories and hopefully they will bring you some comfort... best well wishes, comforts and thoughts to you from the Dodge Family!! = )
This is absolutely one of the first real bluesy songs that I encountered when I was in high school. Dam this left an impression!!
