@SuperCarsGT3 you can see banding and chaos in fog and anything with large uniform color. If you have a little more money then get a GoPro. I can't emphasize how terrible this camera is in both audio and video.
720p any better? I need to replace my Flip MinoHD (used as dash cam) with something that doesn't shut off due to heat, and with longer recording times.
@vVeazel it's not a good time to buy a mini cam right now. Most of them have poor quality electronics. The best HD right now are those larger handheld camcorders. Look under Canon HD camcorder. Audio and Video are 1000 times better than these low budget garbage cams. For sure stay away from Kodak. They don't even fix their own cameras. It's sent out to a 3rd party dot com.

I exchanged it for a Zx3 which has better video for dash cam purposes (IMO) but still lacks detail in 720p due to its scaling. It has the same audio as your Zx5 though, very muted and full of low tones. I am thinking of trying out the GoPro Hero 960 next.
@vVeazel Sorry to hear. I filed a complaint against Kodak with the BBB due to their negligence in the situation. I now have a Canon T3i (TOTALLY different type of cam) but the quality of 1080p is incomparable. There's zero chaos on the Canon and no background blips or chirps.
@vVeazel I've see the GoPro 100 times. THAT IS the cam to get for action shots. People drive on the freeway here with the motorsports kit hanging on the outside of their car, so 100% its a good cam. EVERYONE NEEDS TO STAY AWAY FROM KODAK!!! At least until they fix their problems and service.

Kodak requested I send it it. I sent it to their repair which turned out to be a third-party dotcom. A week later they are sending it back without repair. This camera is for deaf and blind people. If you are not deaf or blind and want to waste money on a camera NOT supported by it's own company then by all means waste your money. For me I'm gonna return it to Amazon dotcom due to poor quality.
I wouldn't mind the GoPro except for the fact that its's ultra wide lense makes it look like you have a permanent fisheye lens on it. While this might be ok for the extreme sporting that the camera is closer tailored for, I would prefer not to be looking through a crazy lens with most my shooting.
@KMREX If you don't mind me asking... aren't you comparing apples and oranges by using the Kodak as you have and then bringing up the superiority of the GoPro? I wouldn't expect great results from the ZX5 when using it to do first person action shots, but likely wouldn't turn to a GoPro to shoot baby's first steps, if you know what I mean...
Still, it's hard not to "see" your point about the noise cancellation.
@tinydr Remember they both are "action" cameras. Both go underwater. Both are 1080p. Both are at an affordable price point. But you're right in that the GoPros specialty is pretty much what I'm recording in this video. The thing is the video quality is better on the GoPro, and the audio is usable (The Zx5 is not) in noisy environments. I don't want anyone to make the same mistake I did and think they can make nice movies w the Zx5. Kodaks service is also horrible so I'd say wait for whats next.
So you're saying the audio is like that straight from the camera? Have you tried in-car again? Is it always like that in the car? Have you tried in-car on a different setting like 720p 60fps? I was interested in this camera until I saw this.

Audio gain at 1/4 = same result. The audio is aweful. I highly recommend people pass this camera. I'm gonna try a GoPro soon.

Yeah, but It's a $170 waterproof, shockproof and dustproof. It's a handy camera that you stick in the pocket and give the kids.
