My Dear Secretary is a 1949 American film directed by Charles Martin, starring Laraine Day and Kirk Douglas.
Keenan Wynn steals the spotlight with the lion's share of the punchline, but look out for 'Granny' from the 'Beverley Hillbillies' (Irene Ryan) to bring a few laughs as Mary the Maid.
Helen walker has a bit part as a secretary freshly following her criminal trial for manslaughter due to a fatal drunk driving accident. This role was to kick off a come back which never materialized.
This movie is pretty funny. Kirk Douglas and Laraine Day's chemistry is excellent and the movie is all very funny and very amusing. I would reccoment to any classic comedy fan.
Writer has no new story ideas and faces a deadline. The movie is probably autobiographical. The story stretches to fill the minimum 90 minutes but lacks plot and interest. Sadly I sat through the whole thing desperately hoping that it would redeem itself. It did not. Better watch 'Charlie bit my finger' a few more dozen times rather than watch this.
hanie "Steve" Gaylord (Laraine Day) attends some writing classes. It's the last day and her teacher, Owen Waterbury (Kirk Douglas) offers the class some inspiring words. The professor also talk of his own aspirations, which consist of writing a work of high literature, well-written and meaningful, and offers a job to one of the ladies in the classroom a job as his personal secretary. Owen is a bachelor who is constantly distracted by parties - to which he takes Steve as well.
I'm the first! Hooray!!! I'm going to watch this right now!!! I love it when I'm first to watch something in youtube. It makes me feel special (yeah, yeah, I know I should get a life)
