  • I could listen to this just about forever!

    This is awesome!

  • Lovely. Listen to Paddy Keenan's version as well.

  • try Sean O'Riada sa Gaiety as youtube is bloching me

  • Sean o riada,

    ....

  • An uillean piper plays this at my session. Such an evocative tune.

Met Hamish Moore and had a lesson with him last fall in Nova Scotia.

That's Laoise Kelly on the harp. Liam Ó Maonlai on whistle

  • Ok... I'd just realize it's a washboard!!

In my land we just use the wooden ones and it took my a while to notice that is a metallic one!!

  • What's the name of that fingerplayed instrument that sounds like a snare drum?

  • Beautiful.Haunting.Thank you.

  • I came across this purely by accident.... I`d never heard such a haunting tune in my entire life....... why ?... I`ve no idea.... makes me want `more` though......

  • Those are Hamish Moore highland pipes in the key of a I think.

  • That's interesting! You might be interested in also watching a video clip I filmed and posted of this tune. I have entitled it "St Laurence O'Toole Concert: March of the King of Laois - MacDonald/Tully/S.L.O'T".

  • washboard as snare is brilliant!!

  • That's an amazing performance [excluding the whistle - aargh!]

  • I couldn't be more proud of my Scots blood! :)

  • Musical direction on the Highland Sessions came from Steve Cooney for the Irish; and from Alan MacDonald for the Scots.

  • @bookkeeper57 What did you say that was so bad?

  • @piperbob2 Nothing that I recall: may have said it twice that's all.

My paternal grandfather came from Scotland and he could sing this thing in Scots Gaelic. Never heard an English translation.

  • Maith thú Allan!

  • Fantastic player

  • Damned fine performance, Lord McFugger. Didn't have too many cocktails before this recording!

  • I love you Allan! Looking forward to meeting you soon again in Germany.

  • that looks like an incredible set of pipes. maker??

  • Those look like Hamish Moore A=440 pipes

  • Very rousing.

  • I'm not sure whether Allan's assumptions are always correct (e.g. Dastirum) but I think there's no doubt that he is one of the greatest assets of Gaelic music and culture in our generation.

Alan, you are great. Your point of view is often controversial, but it is needed now more than ever. I think piping, especially Piobaireachd, could benefit a lot from controversy. Thank you Allan!

  • Wonderful! I love these tunes! Thank you so much for posting this!

  • beautiful

  • Outstanding! Thanks for posting!

  • also known as RORY O MOORES MARCH written by a mc crimmon before they got sacked as pipers to clan o moore in 1596 after the battle of stradbally bridge ( see DERICKS image of rory o moores piper mc crimmon at edinburgh websit

  • I somewhere have a slow 6/8 march/air called Rory O'Moore but it is completely different to this tune but you are right about the alternative name.Shame it will take me about a month to find it for all the thouands of tunes I have collected over the last ten years.Bet my missus has thrown it out now that I want it!!

  • Alan is the man, he's mad but in a good way.
