  • Socialists pushing their policies that guarantied everybody low cost housing worked so well. And socializing the loses have given us so much,

    debt.

  • Howard Dean is awesome!

  • Howard Dean needs to be bludgened to death with Atlas Shrugged

  • There you go. More Bailouts = More Regulation. Enough of your greedy ideas that these stupid companies need to go bankrupt.

Don't argue with the politicians, or you'll be thrown into jail.

  • Hey it was Bushie's idea to begin with...

  • ....and good riddance to him, but Congress and this administration are passing the same stupid bailouts. Unfortunately, Ben Bernanke is still around to make you poorer.

  • Dean has no idea what he's talking about.

  • The last time we had true capitalism was when we had sound money. Its almost been a hundred years (fed reserve created 1913). How about we get rid of the Business Cycle. I can't believe Howard Dean is serious when he says this. How STUPID does he think people are.

    Support HR1207

  • That's a laugh. We haven't had capitalism in almost 40 years. We've had Democratic Socialism. Central economic planning. That's what Dean are calling capitalism and it proves the oue elected officials in Washington haven't got a friggen clue of what got us into this mess or how to get out of it.

  • You can call it socialism, communism or fascism. Those are just distorting labels. What we are about is love.

After seeing what the republicans have to the nation and the world in the past few years the majority of us are sick and will be sick of right-wing ideas for a while. I mean wake up people! You are loosing every single emerging constituency: Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, Jewish, young voters. Until you understand the we are country of WE not ME you will lose.

  • Just wow...

  • I think we've had enough fascism.

Damn, we need someone to step up and try to break the media monopoly up. It's killing this country. At least than we'd have an honest view of what's going on instead of being force fed this crap.

  • Better idea. Turn off the TV and let them go down the toilet financially.

  • Yeah, what good that's done. I haven't watched TV in 5+ years.

  • I know... I hate Fox News too...

How exactly are they fascists? By winning elections and getting a super majority in congress? That's not autocratic; that's democratic.

Don't blame the media for being liberal; blame them for not reporting enough and being extremely lazy when they do. There are plenty of left wingers that hate the media for reporting on trivial crap and not on corporate crimes and world catastrophes.

  • First we don't have a democracy, there is no right to vote for the Presidency.

Fascism is where corporate and state powers merge.

Interestingly enough fascists of the past advocated a single party monopoly.

The underlying problem with the media is not that they're majority liberal, that's just a symptom of the problem, it is that ten corporations hold a monopoly on the media; tv, film, newspapers, radio,...

Why would corporations report on corporate crimes, themselves? Ask yourself that.

  • It's not so much capitalism, but trying to convince consumers to consume less and save more. But there are structural problems...namely the credit system...ppl owe too much credit on their cards. its maxed out and no one can pay up. There needs to be stiff regulation of the credit card industry , renegotiate interest rates and extend payment periods. There needs to be a shift in culture..Americans are going to have to learn to live modestly like the rest of the world.

  • If you're going to regulate the credit card industry, basically what you're doing is subsidizing irresponsibility. Those who are being penalized with high rates are the ones who didn't pay their bills on time. Regulate that away and the cost to the responsible cardholders goes up.

Live modestly like the rest of the world? Screw that. We deserve our standard of living. To hell with people who think we don't.

  • Dean is a demagogue. This country hasn't seen free market capitalism since before FDR. There has been all kinds of government regulation and interference in the market and banking by the government. What a dork!

  • We need to get rid of the people who caused the problem, regardless if their Republicans or Democrats.

And that means, Larry Summer and Tim Geitner MUST GO!

    NOW!

  • I want government to get out of my life. To live as a free man, not serf. To keep my income. To truly own property. To be the ultimate judge of what I do to my body. To travel freely. To not be compelled to the will of another, particularly into the killing or enslavement of other human beings. To be able to arm myself against criminals. To speak freely, and practice my religion or lack thereof.

  • I hope that he meant cronie capitalism. Otherwise he needs to be silent. the free market works well on its own, without risk the corporate douche bags run wild.

  • corporate douche bags run wild are an inevitable part of the free market, hence the need for regulation

  • if there was a true free market dangerous risk would guide investment. if someone took a risk with no hope of a bailout they would go out of business. regulation breeds cronie capitalism.

  • you're conflating regulation with bail-outs. i'm with you about the bail-outs but would strongly disagree with you re regulation.

  • i'm not conflating anything. this is our system, the friends of businesses in d.c. take care of their people in wall street by bailing them out, giving them tax breaks and subsidizing them. our federal income tax dollars goes to big business at the tune of 30-1

  • sure. but what does that have to do with regulation.

  • i'm of the opinion that we can't trust the gov't to be benevolent in dealing with wall street. any involvement from the gov't encourages business to take undue risk because they have a security blanket to fall back on with their friends in d.c. when our gov't allows risk to regulate business the system runs better. if the banks knew that the govt would not help them they would have stayed out of derivatives because they would have gone out of business unless the gov't helped them.

  • well, i don't think bankers went into derivatives because they knew if they were to fail, the government would bail them out. they went into derivatives because they felt they were on top of the world and that their investments were sure to succeed. i think we're using "regulate" in different ways. by "regulation" i'm referring to things like limiting the amount that banks can leverage, limiting the size of institutions, etc., which i think mots people would agree are useful rules.

  • risk regulates everything you've listed. risk forces business to make good decisions. gov't involvement in any way encourages undue risk. we can't trust the gov't to be an unbiased anymore, they've proven they will screw it up or be corrupt.

  • that's the thing. risk only forces good decisions to the extent that economic actors are rational. it's not rational to leverage 30-to-1 but banks did it because they thought that they couldn't fail. to have a completely free market, sans regulation, is dangerous. moreover, the way that risk is currently allocated (short-term success is incentivized, as opposed to long-term success) is absurd and can only be restructured via government regulation.

  • they took the undue risk because they knew for certain that the govt would bail them out. this whole collapse is contrived. it was meant to get the arabs hooked into derivatives so that they could knock them down to size. Dubai is a ghost town now. So all of the world got leveredged into this in some form, and gov't is bailing every bank out across the globe so that they can buy up the real assets while the economy is still breathing. they knew what they were doing.

  • Corporate douchebags are enabled by regulation, homeboy.

  • Capitalists should just stop producing capital. Let the little guys work and the capitalists retire.

  • What the hell are you talking about? I'm sorry if this was a joke and I ruined it. If it's a joke, it's actually pretty funny.

  • It was a joke.

  • howard dean is a rich capitalist so WTF is this idiot talking about. another traitor!!! he should be set adrift in the ocean with pelosi, reid and teddy kennedy... the three might need something to eat. bunch of wankers all of them

STFU howard go back to VT and bend over for your BF

  • They had regulation, and refused to use it.

    Now they want control

  • Its all or nothing, isn´t it?! If you don´t have superdupercrazycapitalism you live in a socialist dictatorship, right?!

  • we haven't had capitalism for years, we've had a handfull of people dictate markets..

Bush "I had to deviate from sound and proven capitalistic principles" what he didn't say was why.. it's time to take our country back folks before we find ourselves in the camps..

  • What an asshole. They keep trying to sell the myth that George W. Bush was a deregulating small government conservative. In fact he was a big government Republicrat. We have two big government parties. What I'd like to know is where's the party that believes in the principle of limited government upon which the nation was founded? It's taken generations of media and public education brainwashing to turn what once was a freedom loving people into a bunch of dumbed down sheeple. Disgrace.

  • Word up! Praise Jesus for Howie D Blaster and all the socialists from Vermont!

  • "The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

    - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

  • Dean is right, what we need right now is for the government to tell us what to buy, where to work, how much we should get paid, and how long we should sleep at night.

Our lives would be so much better if every aspect of them was controlled by the government (of course those who run the government can do whatever they want, because they deserve it for spending all their time controlling us)

  • thats right and will never change evry idiot thinks this is a great president right more fools who think obama is different were will these idiots be when you find he just like the rest there heads up there asses were they always have been

  • Howard Dean should return to leading the DNC. They suffered under him.

  • They won in '06 and '08 under him (he wasn't there in '04). Are you sure you know what you're talking about? I mean the Dems now have a super majority in congress.

  • Yes and look how well things are going..

  • MORON
