you need to recover what is reusable and recyclable before incineration, so you dont incinerate materials which will then create toxin that leach into the underground water system. this dr need to give him phd back to where it came from.

These people are the most unrealistic panel of morons I have listened to... With new gasification processes it is the best option available... and the crap they have to say about nano-particles... if they were being real and honest they would let people know what kinds of nano-particles are emitted by their stinky landfills and seriously, the reason we have the issue with companies making "green" packaging: it isn't cost effective and while it sounds nice, it's not happening so we go second best
@fosterruleslady I can relate to how angry you are. I did a lot of research and I suggest you do the same. The main thing is that you care that we shouldn't be wasting, ie burning, resources.
So don't fix the problems, keep the trash, landfills we have? WHAT do you want? Reduce the ampount of waste? Ha, people who have thens of thousands of land that use poisins. Require heating (waste fuel) fly planes all over the place. Have huge businesses, take billions of tax dollars to lecture. Drive huge wasteful cars and et al. live by experience! I live on 15,000 a year... you? I buy organic, don't cut or poison my lawn. PLEASE have something realistic to say.
As far as I know, all new incinerators clean particles and recycling is oen option, but face it, it is not possible to recycle everything. The alternatives to boost our economy is well stated in all the the videos I have compiled in my channel.
Dr. Connet can't even recycle the plastic shell of the microphone he's talking into. There are endless tons of different plastics and there is no recycling technology for most of them. They go to landfills and stay intact there long after our bones are dust.
the alternative to waste incineration is not landfill... its another backend approach to the waste problem... waste according to Dr. Connett (who by the way, helped me with my college thesis), is a resource and the best way to deal with it is recycling, composting, reusing and reduction- an integrated approach...
im surprised someone hasnt purchased those old gas tanks that they used to use to make and store coal gasor built a massive tank, silo and filled it with trash. capture and filter the methane and burn it for electricity/ sell it to the national grid. would it not be possible to use this idea for just food waste which would produce methane and a supply of sellable compost?
and also the fly ash he talks about created by other incinerators have been burned in plasma converters into inert slag. plus you can use the immense heat created in the process to actually get a net electrical surplus which can be fed back into the grid to power homes and whatnot.
They need to research plasma converters. Similar to incinerators but without the negative effects. They liquify municial waste through superheater plasma without flame. the byproducts are obsideon-like glass slag that can be used in asphault or construction and syngas which consists of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. hydrogen= clean feul. carbon monoxide can be converted and used in safe ways. all toxic materials are rendered inert with zero leakage.
By the way: The building of an incinerator produces more waste that it could burn throughout its entire lifetime. There has been carried out a study in Germany about the subject stating clearly, that incinerators (no matter which tech you use) are waste of money and resources and a threat to our health.
Waste incinerators are completely idiotic. 90% of the waste isn't even burning. You need a lot of fuel to burn such waste leading to very bad efficiency. The transport of heat over miles is also idiotic. This technology has been introduced by people who have no idea about energy management. Waste is the base for the "free market". Thats why incinerators are build.
Yes, incinerators are idiotic. This a whole new concept in North America. In Japan and other countries it is alerady old news. municipal waste, burned at very high temperatures = energy + reduced demand for landfill
The several low oxygen oven to energy systems I've worked on are NOT incinerators. By definition they are not burning, they are breaking down material into usable gases and recoverable metals.
We can't recycle enough or reduce enough that we won't make Methane in the landfills. How about we burn that methane - we'll that is what we are doing but in a clean oven and not out in the open.
All new incinerators clean particles, NOx, dioxin and the flue gas emitted is often cleaner than the emissions from a coal fired power plant. Yes, recycling is best, but face it, it is not possible to recycle everything. The alternative to incineration is landfill.
Dr Paul is correct on his position with regard to ANY process that uses combustion a chemical process. you get checmical byproducts and it is very energy inefficient.
Even the Relic technology of Plasma gasification first commericially used at GM in 1959 is no longer a viable WTE alternative. Despite decreases in torch energy req more efficient designs fundamentally it still has very high cost and low productivity as Plasma torch working area is 16" and gas is low btu150/300not pipeline grade.
It's amazing that this man can say to talk about zero emissions is poppycock right after he talks about zero waste, which is also not attainable. What really strikes me as odd is that they claim this isn't an issue of landfill vs. incinerator, but they damn the incinerator without mentioning the gasses released by and high cost of maintaining (or cleaning) landfills. Recycling is groovy, but it's not free either and it also takes energy to reprocess the material. There is no perfect solution...
if you can recyle 100% of waste stream then that would be fantastic...but you cant't normally you recycle 30% and waste to energy incineration produces less emissions than a bunker c power plant. My question is what is your solution then? Recycle everything? because it is not possible or feasible
The emmissions produced from many modern gasificatiion technology produces much more GHG than what is produced from recycling. This is a fact. In addition the emmissions produced are as much as 95% LOWER than those required by the EPA. And no ASH. 100% processed waste into reuseable by products. Please don't throw out the baby with the bathwater when being informed about MODERN (key word) WTE technologies.
I would like to contact Mr. Connett, I am a member of an Association for protection of environment and participating in an anti-incineration plant campaign in Zagreb, Croatia. Anyone?
FANTASTIC..... At last, plain, simple, DIRECT language that exposes the drastic problems that go along with incinerators and the 'paid' lobbyists that our governments are 'allowing' to control them and jepardize our future. Let's call or write to Ontario's McGuinty--or governemnt anywhere in the world--and tell him NO to "Waste-to-Energy INCINERATORS"
Dr Paul Connett has convinced me. Thank you for making this eloquent argument against incineration

What about closed loop gasification. What kind of Dr. is this guy?? Incineration implies combustion which requires a smokestack.

Does this apply to Plasma Converters?

It would be much easier to state your views and have people take you seriously without riddling your comments with swear words.
We're a wasteful society, don't like something anymore, throw it out and buy a new one.

this guy is fucktard!!!
burning waste involves recycling beforehand fuck face....they don't burn recyclables. Also,
ash remaining is then turned into drywall, ashphalt for roads etc. A very good use of waste, no?
for every one tonne of landfill waste, 2 tonnes of greenhouse gasses are generated.
burning waste and then turning it into energy is positive economics you turd
burying waste in the ground releases leachates into the very water you drink assfuck!
someone kill this panel of retards
