playing by ear for me is when some one sings a song and you may or may not know it and you can accompany them , being able to know what key and the correct chords and which order they in , i am very dependent on sheet music and having the lyrics and chords wriiten down before me , i would like to get out of this trap , i over heard one day that "real" musicians play by ear , i was pretty insulted by that
I've been "playing" (reading tabs sheets mostly) for 8 years now and I'm stagnating. I guess it's time I start to learn how to play by ear properly. I hope your vids help.
nice concept. i can play any note on the guitar in 1 or 2 atempts but building a chord around that is tricky for me. piano is a lot easy to do for me because i can see the notes layed out in front of me.nice leson
@iceymanjack A bridge is usually a connection or "bridge" that connects the verse to the hook/chorus. It is also referred to as the middle 8, and often is used as a way to depart from the main riff to switch things up. In short it usually occurs between the end of verse, but before the hook comes.
U'll luv ur guitar and appreciate it thousand time more once you know how to relate it to any sound and if you have an understanding of how to relate different theories to improvise...then guitar playing becomes an addiction...lookin at tabs are great for to learn ur chords and plays songs quickly...but u'll always be limited and in the end u'll get board of ur guitar...dats what happnd to me..now im getting a hang of ear training now it so exciting to play and learn
im a bass player mostly so if im playing a single note (not paying attention to whatever scale im playing or if im even playing scales) how would i know if im playing a major or minor
with bass guitar, you only play just the single notes. it takes at least two notes to create any type of major or minor chord. on bass, you are simply always play the root notes to the major and minor chords, but not the chord itself, or even a major or minor.
@aarontomberlin Well... maybe you mostly play single notes, but you don't ALWAYS play the root note! You want to know what type of chords are being played so you can make your playing more interesting. Plus you might want to play something like a 1 - 3 - 5 pattern to a chord being played by the other instuments.
@rbcrazyriderrb not really, unless you establish a tonal center. If you're just running through a a major scale by yourself, you will run through a "minor" scale during. for example. If you're playing a C major scale (C D E F G A B) and you continue on to the next octave, you will have covered A minor (A B C D E F G) but the overall sound won't have changed.
Thanks Aaron , been playing about 4 months now , nailed my majors and minors and found your lesson very useful .
I am from now on going to start listening out for the chords in songs . Its a long road I know but you have given me some great tips here . Thanks mate.
i have been playing guitar for a couple years i can play alot of songs but i mostly read tab. when i hear a song i can hear the notes but i just cant find them. eney help would be great
its just been 5 months since i started playing guitar. i mostly look at the tabs, and i can already play a few solos by metallica. do u think its too early for me to play by ear or learn now? how long will it take?
its never to early to play by ear and to tell you the truth its way easier. who cares if its not exactly the same as the album. the point is to learn guitar not the song cuz you want to get to the point where you're making your own music.
hey i gotta tel you man i learned alot thanx very much hope you post videos like these in the future to help people play by ear and you should post a video to learn how to play solos and stuff cause lot of people are trying to play solos including me so you shoud put it and use any solo and try to play with it in the video in other words try to play the solo whhile teaching us so itd be a great lesson thanx dude you helped me alot
