I have the TomTom 350 TM..man i love this unit..ive never had a problem getting to where i need to go and it locks on the satellites very quickly...i love the map update feature...use it on a regular basis...also i modified my gps with a altimeter and a trip calculator (extremely accurate)..here is a tip...when planing unfamiliar routes i use google maps for the destination and import it to my TomTom...
@ PeterKiryluk . My my my . You're not very nice . But I suppose you must be the expert . Seeing how I spent over 30 years of my life teaching navigation skills to every sort of competitive orineteersman to forest service rangers to adventure racers to , etc. etc. etc. etc. Not excluding underwater navigations . I suppose all that experience would qualify me as a professional moron then huh ?
Never mind the military nautical navigation endeavors I've learn and taught . Surley ! lol
I would never get another tomtom, mine is 2 years old and it constantly looses gps signal and gets confused as if the road you are actually driving on is a crossroad on the map and it looks like you are driving on one of the crossroads, i use it every day for work and get pissed on a daily basis, there is no reset button on it and having to connect it to the computer every other day to download the gpsfix file is getting really old. it gets more lost than I already am
@ajourdan1 Um, there is not one, all it has is a USB plug and a light, nothing else, I have looked before, and am looking right now. Its a XL n14644 do a google search for "tom tom xl n14644 reset and under images 5th row down, middle of page there is a pic of the bottoms of 2 stacked together, mine looks like the bottom, then tell me where the reset button is
@gygahurtz looks like you have to hold the power button for 20 seconds to reset this one, sorry if I went on a rant, but your "look before posting" comment ticked me off
Good grief, dude. If your rant was about the TomTom XL n14644 (which you failed to mention at the time), why post it under this video? The TomTom XL 350 shown in this video does indeed have a reset button, does reliably optain satellites, and is reasonably easy to maintain. It has also been undated twice within the last year or so (now version 9.151) to add capabilities and restore features sought by users.
@stewartx5 sorry, it was a brain fart, I was just ranting about Tom Tom in general because I had so many problems with mine, I wasn't targeting a particular model, just the name brand, and I didn't realize that someone would think I meant the model listed here which probably does work properly. Once again sorry
Oh, if you want to fuss about the company, I'll gladly join right in. TomTom can indeed be difficult (to put it nicely) to deal with. Sadly, when a problem develops, the competitors (Garmin, etc) can often be equally frustrating (been there). None of them really get consistently high marks for customer or technical support.
@ajourdan1 looks like you have to hold the power button for 20 seconds to reset this one, sorry if I went on a rant, but your "look before posting" comment ticked me off
I'm looking into buying a new navigation unit. I'm still using the now old Garmin Nuvi one of the high end models. I bought it about 3 or 4 years ago- and paid 500+ for it from best buy- it is terrible at telling me which way to turn- and when. I'm interested in the tom-tom GO 2505 or 2535 now.
@lazer300 sure. I ended up going with a Garmin nuvi 1450. I'm very very very happy with it, and highly recommend it to anyone. The nuvi was on sale for just over 200 at Best Buy. I'm sure happy with it :)
the only thing the ONE and the XL models differ in is that the XL models don't automatically go back to the map if you're idle on a menu screen. I'm not sure if It can though, can it ?
the Garmin is garbage. Gives you wrong directions and can't hold a signal if you're not in open roads. I brought my mom a TomTom ONE with a much smaller screen but it's a much better product. I'm glad someone stole my Garmin, now i have a reason to get a TomTom, I'm interested in the XL 350 model.
@andydo2007vietnam Garmin is the leader in market share but Tomtom has more innovation and forward thinking. Tomtom now has collaborations with Google, Nike, and just released HD traffic.
are we saying the longitude and latitude is in the 340m- model, I know the 350 it is not and am undecided to keep or return within ahour of doing a return.
The Nuvi 205 is very basic GPS, very user friendly. has more setting than the XL350TM.
The 350TM is more advance, live traffic (with DC adapter), and livetime map update for free. Easy to use, fast and good signal. But cut off many settings, you can't even adjust the screen brightness, and you lose the "Latitude", which may be useful when you going to a national park for campping.
So, I dont like both of them, and I got the Tomtom XL 340 back. or Nuvi 255, 265
WHich can you see better with while driving in so much SUNLIGHT?

@greenhoneybee08 I like the Garmin

While the Garmin appears to have more detail, I still prefer the Tom Tom graphics and layout.
You're from the Bay Area I see. :)
