  • over thirty five years of thrashing this album, still love it,still remember seeing dennis wilson with his band 'the deltoids' playing in Sydney in the eighties, fuck yer they were it !!!

  • WOW!! what a buzz.. Just turned 60 recently .. what the ??? I can still REMEMBER THIS with great fondness .. Greetings all you "GROOVERS" lol // xxx

  • Now I know where Tame Impala got their influences from! This band is gold! Better then Tame, no you can't compare these guys to anything :)

  • It's Dannie Davidson, not Donnie.

  • this song kicks so much ass! man how did i miss this shit? kinda sounds like cream but smoother and sexier. love it!

  • I certainly remember this band, but have to say it's a very ordinary song. And hey, I fondly, fondly remember hanging out at the Arts Factory in Goulburn St Sydney. Yes, the incense, the marijuana smoke, the hippie stalls and the lightshows! And the cushions, I think we all sat on cushions! Tamam Shud, Nutwood Rug, Cocaine (I remember hiring them for my school dance once and nearly getting suspended because of it!) Such happy memories of being a young and free hippie girl!

  • @jazzysamba -" I fondly, fondly remember hanging out at the Arts Factory in Goulburn St "- hmm - & I think there is a distinct likelihood that I may well have fondly tried to fondle you @ the Arts Factory !! LOL .... hey we were young and we were free .....for a while.....thank God I've still got my long term memory ! LOL

  • @ablmn8 I've been waiting for someone to mention the Arts Factory in Goulburn St,where I remember Clear Light Acid the Ellis D Fogg light shows, the Hippy Market stalls, ahhh the pungent smell of patchouli oil,and Mullumbimby Madness pot ! And with Billy Thorpe playing it was a total sensory overload, even more exciting than robbing a Bank !!

And where is that sweet little girl from Blakehurst, Dianne, now ,and has she got any of that Clear Light left ?

  • @MalThorgan - Ah! The Arts Factory!! - Tully In Space and Co. Caine! Them was the days! Don't touch the Orange Barrel though - stick to the Clear Light.

  • @squarepyramid99 @squarepyramid99 - so YOU were the dude that sold me those freaky orange barrels ! LOL -you are right tho-the Orange barrels were paranoid stuff, whereas the Clear Light & White Lightning were truly mind expanding & surreal ! Had my last trip 1971 @ Led Zeppelin concert in Sydney-so good it made Led Zep sound almost as good as Billy Thorpe ! Ha ha No just joking the trip was great & Led Zep were marginally better than dross ! ....Ouch ! .....

  • @MalThorgan, Hello! No! I was a VICTIM of the Orange Barrel, not the purveyor! And I truly recall the Clear Light as the best! How ususual we should share such memories! I may have come across as Arse-ish (or something) by doing down some of the them-time Aussie bands, but u got to appreciate I had been "removed" in an involuntarily fashion, by my parents, from England to Oz...and this meant trading live sets by Pink Floyd, Led Zep, Mighty Baby etc. for Johnny Farnham et. al! NOT good! Hitmeback

  • @squarepyramid99 -yeah good point-but look on the bright side-at least you weren't in the USA with the Monkees & Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich or Sweden with ABBA ! hahaha

Now be careful what you say about Aussie bands or else I'll send Nick Cave over to move into your house and live with you for a while !!! LOL

  • Holy ****...Dennis Wilson?!?!

  • remember,ibiza,hippy,1973

  • "magical to my ears"~~cheers~~*

  • No, sorry Square, I don't like this. It's one of those songs where you wait for something to happen, but nothing happens, the middle and the end sound just like the beginning. Where do they come from, I've not come across their name b4?

  • From Sydney, Australia. I was "transported" for a few years back in the early 70's and KJ were one of VERY few decent Aussie bands,(most were complete dross),and they were excellent live. Anyway, I like it.

  • Yes, I agree, they were excellent live.

  • mate should have gone down to melbourne where the real rock scene was.the AZTECS(billy thorpe),Wild Cherries(lobby loyde),Chain and venues such as The Thumpin Tub and the TF(Too Fucking)Much Ballroom. Sydney tended to be more "surfie/hippy"bands,Melbourne bands tended to turn volume to 11 and ROCK.Melbourne also had some weirdo university student bands such as Daddy Cool(Eagle rock)and the very warped Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band, check out their song "Who walks in when i walk out".

  • mate - I have one word for you regarding Sydney bands and that is - Buffalo. One listen to Volcanic Rock will enlighten you.

    cheers

  • I saw Aztecs, Wild Cherries, Chain, Captain Matchbox and Daddy Cool and I saw them all in Sydney. Which meant that I was able to see some great bands without having to deal with arrogant yobbos.

  • @pmcwillow share your sentiments,& would add a ton of other bands I saw as a teenager-partial listing including Loved Ones,Ayers Rock,Tully,Taman Shud,Jeff St John,Wendy Saddington,Dave Miller Set, Blackfeather,Spectrum,Max Merritt, Doug Parkinson,Piranha,Heart & Soul, Nutwood Rug Band,La De Das & I don't care where they were from, just glad I was there when they were ! I took it for granted at the time but now realise how lucky I was to be witness to such a great time 4 Aussie music!

  • @MalThorgan Hey, I saw all of them except Loved Ones and Dave Miller Set!!

  • @pmcwillow ...is that you Dianne ?...lol...just joking, but given the bands in common, I reckon we probably crossed paths sometime. Back then I was not an arrogant yobbo, just 16 & desperately trying to be "cool". Now I am just a cynical old yobbo ! hahahaha......But what an exciting time socially & musically to be alive....I still love living in the past, it's what keeps me able to deal with the future !

  • @MalThorgan Hey my friend, you've just listed almost all the bands I loved as a groovy schoolgirl hippie in the late 60s/early 70s in Sydney. We'd head out to the Sundowner at Balgowlah, the Coogee Bay, the Royal Antler, and my favourite trippy venue, the Arts Factory, of course. I posted another comment on this Khavas Jute link about the Arts Factory, but had to reply to you personally! Thanks for the reminiscences man - we probably passed each other in the Ellis D Foggy haze too!

  • @jazzysamba -indeed - like two ships passing in a Fogg ! LOL -great memories & nice to share with you. What are you doing next Friday night I might be able to get weekend leave from the nursing home?

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Its a beautiful understated Australian classic song and it takes me back to those wonderful sunny optimistic sunny days of 1971

  • sorry did i repeat the word "sunny"?

  • @squarepyramid99

There are heeps of great aussie bands, which were dross?

Buffalo, Tamam Shud, Band of Light, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, Master's Apprentices, The Twilights, Mighty Kong, Madder lake, Star Spangled Banner....

    I could go on.

  • @VoodooFlintstone - Billy Thorpe was dross at Sydney Town Hall and so were Max Merrit's Meteors. Flake were dreadful. The La-De-Da's, so bad! The Aussie Velvet Underground - eek! Sherbert - OH DEAR! I could go on too.

  • @squarepyramid99

Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs killed at Sunbury tho.

To say that majority of aussie bands in those days were dross is just dumb, every country has a bunch of crappy bands.

The Missing Links are fuckin killer :)

  • @VoodooFlintstone-checked ur site & must complement you on ur very extensive & eclectic list of favourites! As U know the 60's was a prolific & exciting time 4 music in Australia as well as O/S. I was lucky 2 C many of the Aussie bands U have in ur favourites & the fact that U appreciate them is great.Wish you could have seen em live, you deserve it.Music crosses all generations-my son turned me on 2 Hip Hop & I turned him on 2 some blues.Try Tom Waites,Talking Heads & Nick Cave -Respect 2 U !

  • @MalThorgan

    @MalThorgan

Well thanks Mal, I live for original music, just a shame it's all OLD Hahaha.

I wish so bad I could have seen those bands in their prime, I would give anything to see Blue Cheer live with the original line-up.

By the way, I do love Tom Waites and Nick Cave, also I dig early Talking Heads.

    :)

  • @squarepyramid99 - interesting how same gig provides different experience. For me the Billy Thorpe Sydney Town Hall gig with La De Das & Nutwood Rug Band as support acts was a momentous & memorable event, possibly because I sat next to Johny O'Keef (the Wild One) & his wife, with LSD & Thai buddha coursing thru my feverish brain while Warren (Pig) Morgan played the awesome Town Hall organ like the Phantom of the Rock Opera !! You say dross, I say experiential & ground-breaking + ear breaking !

  • @squarepyramid99 - ok agree with you re Sherbert & Flake- but I cant remember a bad gig from Max Merrit & Kevin Borich will be amused when I tell him you bagged the La De Das & Tim Gaze will probably be equally amused that you liked Kahvas Jute so much !

Oh well at least we can still dependably flog England in Cricket, League,Rugby,Swimming,Surfing,Sailing,Beer Drinking,Sleeping,Exporting Iron Ore & probably even soccer nowadays !!! Cheers !

  • 1971 was a good year 4 music #####
