you cannot begin to express just how great this band was at one time. Their music is still as great today as it was 40 yrs ago. The "bands" and "artists" of today are not even worthy to carry these men's guitar cases of even drive the bus. We lost Duane WAAAAAAY too soon.
mmmm, mmmmm, mmmm. Changed my life and know it's still changin' lives all these years later...Brother Duane waillllllin' igniting the Allman Bees as they was so long ago. Ring-a-ding-ding. Caught Duane playing with EC's Derek and the Dominoes at the Syracuse War Memorial in late Dec '70 followed by the Bros. in May '71 at Skidmore in Saratoga Springs and Central Park that summer. Glad someone posted this. If u like this check us out on youtube---johnnyguitar335
"Two Guns-Balls Out" was another talented band in the 70's that was signed to Capricorn Records. Check out their music on youtube it is a sound of its own and considered a southern rock n roll classic!!!
Every time I hear the Allman Bros I remember some of the runs and parties and even mainstream events where this music rocked. Allman Bros have always been a favorite among us old school bikers, along with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Marshal Tucker, Doobie Bros, The Outlaws. Great, timeless music, that has played a big part in our collective memories of great parties, good friends and great rides. Thank you Allman Bros.
I wonder why I can't find any videos of Saint Duane and Greg doing any of the tunes where Duane does his magical slide flying. This guy was too much. OK some rich guy out there please produce the videos. You can't take it with you to the grave, and Duane was so loved.
I am 56 years old now and the first time i heard this original version , my young ass was tore up all to hell and back, i had never heard such music and great lead and slide playing like that before. It so moved me right up out of my chair that i found the first thing that would fit over my pinky finger , got that old silvertone six string , droped it to g tuneing by ear and began to try to immitate that great sound and i have been doing it ever since.
I saw them 3 times live, all while Duane was still alive. Perhaps the best performance I was at was their show outdoors at Jubilee Weekend at UNC Chapel Hill, great line up of musicians that weekend, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, J. Geils Band, Cowboy, Alex Taylor, Tom Rush and the ABB. They were supposed to play from 9-11, ended up jamming until almost 2 AM! What an awesome band and Duane was possibly the ultimate guitarist. As a keyboard player I respected, admired, and envied his talent.
@@bb6345789 - I just hear the band kicking to what may have been rehearsed while Duane was into his melodic run, lettin' the music flow through... the best! Syncopation man... he was probably doing it without even knowing it... flyin' high. These guys were great
this song is the real deal of some old time southern rock. this band has a sound that is so powerfull that it's sound can blow your mind big time. i'd love to see the original band get back together to play again i think it would one hell of a show.
@angelo062367 that would be a bit difficult, Duane passed in 1971, Berry Oakley passed almost exactly a yr later within a mile of where Duane met his fate..
All I know is, why you guys are talking about beats and shit, I myself love the fu#king song so shut the hell up. NUFF SAID!! LOL Just messing. OH YEAH BABY!!
There are only 3 beats in the measure at the very end of the solo. Someone here says it was a mistake. and all these years I thought they were messing with my mind...
It's an old rock and roll story....."crossroads"...no one actually believes he got his skill from Satan.....are you that hung up on the whole religious thing?
I have purchased this three times over my life. First was vinyl, tape and finally CD. I've also cover this tune in every band I've played in . . . nobody . . . nowhere can do it like they could.
(Point of interest . . . listen at exactly 3:20 and tell me what you hear.)
@1954telecaster - Oakley comes in a half a second early from the break down, the band covers seamlessly. You have to remember those boys were in High Party Mode at that point in their lives. Still the best bass player I've ever heard. I saw the original band around a half dozen times, nobody has come close since.
@bb6345789 -oh yeah, youre absolutely right, good ear! but im a little surprised to hear you say that, i always thought oakley was the weak link in the band (if there was one)
@1954telecaster - No my friend, Oakley was a driving force in that band. One of the most innovative creative souls I've ever had the privilege of watching. I got to see the original band play several times and the energy he put out was staggering. He was also just a very nice guy that would give you the shirt off his back, a rare quality these days.
@bb6345789 I have listened to other versions of this tune over the years and all of them have this same time thing happen during the slide solo. I think that Duane was playing out of time on purpose. These guys weren't your average bar band. They used really neat time signatures 7's and 11's. Try to count out the drum solo in 4 and you will see what I mean.
@4backbeat1 I've noticed this for years (having listened to it at least a thousand times). Having been there a couple of times myself, it is possible that he was a second behind getting the volume control back up. I always turn down during a solo so I don't accidentally make noise and to get rid of amp buzz etc. Then I forget I am off.
Saw them in Santa Barbara before Duane died. Saw them a few years later at the Hollywood bowl when Johnny Winter came out and jammed with them. Duane (Skydog) is still my one and only hero.

No disrespect intended AT ALL here-Duane was unreal. But some props need to go to the unsung talent of this band-their dual drummers. It takes a lot of skill to stay in sync and not sound odd when two drummers are going at it in a rock song. Granted, their 45 minute solos in their concerts later on in their careers drove me to distraction. But these guys were very very good.
I think Duane must went down to the old crossroads and made a deal! Dam could that man play! Makes me want to put my guitar down every time I hear him....I am so not worthy!...lol....A god among men....
One Way Out, have you ever heard a whinny dog sound out of a guitar. Man Duane was the master and as I saw him at Fillmore East, as I am 62, never would I have imagined that such sound could come from a guitar. Dicky Betts plays the first part well, but Duane, my God what an outstanding performance he does. No one can do it as Duane Skyman Allman. Cleartwater

Sad that the Allman Brothers never go to fullfill their potential with both Duane and Barry's early deaths.
