There is no one characteristic that is shared among all the Indian except maybe a merger in our history for the last 500 years since Akbhar united the sub continent. Your statement that the Bangladeshis aren't indian, has little substance. India,Bangladesh ( are terms that are just 60 and 40 years old) the histories of these people go back about 2500 years.

I would never approve of Bangladesh becoming united with India. I'm bengali and proud, and India has oppressed Bangladesh (setting fire to factories, raping women in jessore, dumping trash in Bangladesh, etc). Bangladesh is ethnically and culturally different from India, we are unique. my father was the son of Abul Mohammed Muhebur Khair Rahman, he went through that war too, and was a school friend of Sheikh mujebur Rahman, he videotaped the speeches, and helped start the revolution, etc.

@workhardt2 the aryans came for a few hundred years after the indigenous and primal tibeto-burmans, most of whom now are buddhist like intial Bangladesh (then considered part of the Tibetan empires and Arakan). Hinduism doesn't say much, since there's hindus in Thailand, Indonesia, and malaysia. Which, by the way are Bangladesh's highest affiliated countries, throughout history (trade, immigration, integration, etc, especially during the vanga kingdoms period).

Siddhartha Gautama was himself a Hindu, it is true that Bangladesh flourished under Buddhist rulers during the Pala dynasty, and was the predominate reason for the spread of Mahayana Buddhism but then by the 10th-13th century. The Sena, Deva Dynasty was when Hinduism flourished in Bengal again. India, Bangladesh's differing beliefs only began with the Mughal rule.
