It sucks having people steal your music but look at this way: Before the 20th century and the boom of the recording industry, musicians made all their money off of teaching/performing. It's basically reverted back to this way which quite frankly I like. It'll weed out the people that only go into the music field to become famous and make lots of money.

They got their feet wet by releasing a "free" demo tape and circulating it in the early 80's; really no different then a file sharing service albeit on a much smaller scale. For me Metallica died when Cliff died (with them managing to release one more good album somehow). Now they are a sad pathetic shell of what they once were; releasing kitschy "symphony albums" and horrible songs

@capnkdawg Incidentally think about this: 200 years ago musicians had to make their living solely off of commissioning works as well as performing and teaching. the idea of a musician becoming wealthy off of recording sales is quite new; something only in the second half of the 20th century. So what we have right now with the implosion of the record industry is a reversion back to the way things once were. It might be positive for the music industry because it will weed out the "posers"
