  • I find BLS's music very stale but that's just my opinion and that's coming from a metalhead who loves rock and metal in general.

  • Although I think BLS's cover of this song is propably the best cover of a song ever made, this original version is still the best.

  • THIS IS GOOD STUFF AND GOOD ADVICE MOST EPIC IS RIGHT THE MESSAGE IS EVEN BETTER BUTTER

  • this song is fucking epic but i ike the black label society cover better. srry but thats just my opinion

  • Greaaaaat intro mother fuckers!

  • great song last album b4 the plane crash

  • Just heard the BLS version after reading comments here. Seriously. WTF??? Its gotta be the worst cover of any song that I ever heard. And Im a big fan of covers. Molly Hatchet's " DREAMS I'LL NEVER SEE" & Skynyrd's " CALL ME THE BREEZE" are great examples of covers better than original. To take such a bittersweet ballad and remake it into that noisy dark crap is just so wrong. I used to play this on my acoustic guitar all the time & it was everybody's favorite.

  • @voodoochef100 What BLS did with the song is called making it THEIR OWN. That it's not a simple cover! If you don't like the piano, the guitar and the voice melodies in BLS version that means that you don't appreciate true musicians!!!! I am a METALHEAD so I prefer Zakk's version but I appreciate very much Lynyrd's original!!!!!

  • Best Group Ever ! Southern Rock from Jacksonville, FL !

  • god bless skynyrd. rest in peace ronnie allen and the rest of the band

  • i wish skynyrd would have done a disco song like a lot of rock bands back then were doing.

  • REMEMBER SMOKING GRASS WITH THIS ON BASEMENT TRUNTABLE....IN 1977

  • Wow! This one's got the fire one it. My ex-husband took mine saying it was his, but I knew it was mine and it was very special. He also has a poster of mine I'd love to have back. You know the Van Zandt brothers really do a great job too. I had to put in a word for them. I love them, too.

  • what can i say, just awesome music

  • This is and Needle and the Spoon are underrated Skynyrd songs.

  • If u don't like Lynard Skynard the u can kiss my ALABAMA REDNECK ASS

  • oh yeah and i love this song!

  • what do these idiots mean by "the Skynyrd Version" they wrote the damn song!

  • one of the best songs in the history of rock!!

  • They sure knew how to dress back funny back then lol but they made some damn good music.

  • I don't like Zakk Wylde's singing anyway.

  • Read some of the comments here. Listened to the BLS version of this song. Maybe I'm getting old, but this is still the best version of this song. It's happy and sad at the same time. The guitars are awesome! The BLS version is just to depressing for me.

  • There won't be another rock band that can write a song with the same feeling that this song passes. Every time I hear this song I cry. THERE WILL BE NO ONE LIKE LYNYRD!

  • Top 5 best southern rock song! Period.

  • This is my favorite version of this ballad....love it!!

  • Love the BLS version. A song with this kind of story rips your heart out and you need to feel that in song. Skynyrd's version is great, but reall doesn't pull it off like BLS does.

  • @jadavis25 For those of us who were around when this song came out, BLS' version just doesn't cut it.. They took a great song and made it something it's not...

  • @da324 Agree with you 100%. Ronnie's version is about getting the girl back. Not hacking her up in pieces, then cooking her up for dinner with fava beans and a glass of chianti......LOL.

  • As most of us know, when this album came out, they re-issued it after the plane crash without the flames. Later, they added the flames back in their albums/Cd's...Does this mean now that the one WITHOUT the flames is rare? Give it to me, daddy....

  • listening to lynyrd skynyrd and i see black label in the related videos, my life is complete

  • @takeosucks lol agreed

  • instead of saying the BLS version is "better" just say that you like it more, personally I like both, just depends on what mood im in.

  • "LYNYRD SKYNYRD" RVZ and the Gang,.. Lives On Forever- in my Heart in my Ears and in my Eyes! Greatest Music on the Planet !!!!

  • I have ALL the records, both of "Street Survivers" . I collected a few after , but I didnt know, so I played the hell out of 'em all! Piece of crap player, thats all I had at the age of 13. 35 years later , they are still my #1!! Allen, we've had many conversations, I know you heard a few, but. theres nothing like watchin you and Gary battle it out!! gives me goose bumps and makes my whole body want to dance my southern ass off!!

  • i have been looking for this song for 20 effin years! i LOVE this song!

  • BLS's version blows chunks !!! Zakk's a monster guitarist but he should of wrote his own lyrics over his 'arrangement' .. no one would of guessed it was this epic song.

  • who could dislike this song

  • Seriously if you are saying BLS did a bad job doing a cover of this song.... They didn't! They did SOOO good. But just because you know this is the original.... Doesn't mean it's better ;) Happy youtubing friends! ( My opinion is that the original HAS to be better because.... Well, they wrote what BLS only had to learn, NOT create.)

  • I have this record! MY FAVORITE

  • I changed my cryin to cussin . LOL. If your older and you get into a bar fight and you get kicked in the balls , you don't cry . you cuss . LOL

  • how do i rate this? on a scale from 1 to 10 it's a million. thank u for posting.

  • The "BLS" Cover of this song is missing one thing...........Ronnie Van Zant. Therefore it will NEVER be as good. Nothing compares to the original. Skynyrd could pull of covers that ROCKED (i.e...crossroads, T for Texas, Call me the breeze, etc), But NO ONE comes close to covering a Skynyrd original....because they don't have the heart and sould that Ronnie Van Zant possessed.

  • @skynyrdfreak43 Couldnt have said it better, without Ronnie its just another song. Best ever

  • Comment removed

  • @skynyrdfreak43 Another ridiculous comment...

  • dudes got a point , though. Ronnie's never gonna be duplicated. His own brother cant even come close.

  • @BufordWoody No one can be duplicated, that's nature. I just smile when someone says: "omg this guy is god". That's just not healthy.

  • @dante4d I dont think Ronnie is a god. I do believe he gave us the greatest compilation of songs that anyone ever put together.

  • @skynyrdfreak43 you are crazy as hell LYNYRD SKYNYRD best band ever was

  • @skynyrdfreak43 i agree... but its a nice cover and nicely done...:D

  • @skynyrdfreak43 it wasnt supposed to be like the original or anything like it. it was of they're own rendition

  • @skynyrdfreak43 sorry but for me zakk wylde is better than Ronnie, with all respect is just my opinion.

  • FLY FREEBIRD

  • Im 16 and i love skynyrd but the band now will never be as good as the original band

  • @50kacey no. they don't seem to posess the "magic" that the original band did, BUT I give Johnny major props for carrying on the band in his brother's memory. I do not think they ever had intentions of winning any Grammys or making any chart toppers, but you cannot deny Johnny continued the band out of pure love for his brother and the other band members.

  • @PlanTonto Yea your exactly right. Johnny does carry on the legacy of his brother better than wat most people could their brother.

  • @50kacey well think of it like this.

gary is still alive, arti is still alive.

billy, steve, ronnie, leon, allen, they are dead

  • @50kacey im a newborn baby and i love lynard skynard give me attention!

  • man, it's ironic, this album was released a couple of days before the, and if you look at the picture, steve is the only out of line with his head engulfed in fire and he was one of the two bandmates that died in the plane crash

  • ok,man!I love this band coze it´s great!

  • 12 people never dreamed... and never will... hehehe

  • LONG LIFE BLS AND SKYNYRD 2 BAND

  • Usually when I listen to cover songs I either like the original the most, or i like both the same. But In this case Black Label Society's version of this song is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than this song. The cover is so much better is EVERY single way. Sorry Skynryd fans but Black Label Society's cover is a landslide compared to this one.

  • @journeyjl you know, it's really depends. For me BLS version is too deppresing and dark. This one feels to me like your friend telling you "Hey buddy, it will be alright. She hurt you and left, but, that's life. You must keep going Besides you still have your friends.". Although i'm huge fan of BLS this version feels so nostalgic and... friendly(?) that it's hard not to love it :). Cheers!

  • @journeyjl I agree fully. I love Skynyrd, they're my second favourite band just behind GN'R but the BLS cover is soooooo amazing.

  • @journeyjl You make me laugh, bls better than this, Sorry bls fans but no comparison to the great Ronnie Van Zant and Skynyrd. Dont feel sorry for us Skynyrd fans because we listen to the best and that is Skynyrd, with Ronnie.

  • this song makes me realize how much I LOVE LYNYRD SKYNYRD!

  • No matter how sad i am this song always manages to put a smile on my face and makes me happier

  • its NOT Allens head - its Steves head in flames(who was so unfortunate) :o(

  • that last solo makes the hair on you stand up ALLOVER!!!

  • it's funny (not haha funny), that this album came ou three days before the plane crash and allans head is engulfed in fire and he was one of the band members that died

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd is the KING of southern rock!

  • Have they EVER played this live? Such a great song and catchy tune.

  • My Grass Is Blues.......

  • My life has come to resemble the inside of One More From The Road.......KFC, Jack Daniels, Quaaludes, and Mary Jane...................

  • The solo at 3:02 is pretty sweet too

  • The best parts of this song are the intro and outro....thumbs up if you agree

  • some excellent guitar picking,riffs deuling guitars,awesome!

  • Probably their best album. Skynard was at their peak when they had their plane crash. Steve Gains joining was the energy that Ronnie fed off of and rejuvenated them for this album. Such a shame they was cut down right in their prime.

  • @DNEFF21 you said it ~ this album was the proof that skynyrd was so much more than just a "southern" band ~ Ronnie could write with the best of them and sing it in a way that made you feel like he was singing to you, about you or for you. Steve Gaines on his worst day could play it like Clapton. This is the best of all the skynyrd albums and it seperated them from the pack. Had they been able to tour this album it would have put them over the top.

  • @javaman64 Although I agree with both of you that Street Survivors was gonna be HUGE SUCCESS that was gonna raise them to superstars status, Pronounce Leh-nerd Skin-ner had FREEBIRD, SIMPLE MAN, TUESDAYS GONE, GIMME THREE STEPS, I AINT THE ONE and one of my favs, THINGS GOING ON. I dont think they were ever gonna be able to top this, BUT IT WOULDA BEEN REALLY GREAT & FUN TO SEE HOW CLOSE STEVE COULDA GOT. What a shame.

  • this is a great driving song especially around summer time

  • How can anyone POSSIBLY dislike ANY Lynyrd Skynyrd song? it's just not possible!

  • tighter than a swiss watch , just a gettin' it

  • THIS IS WHEN they were in their prime. no band will ever compare to this one. love Ronnie Van Zant!!!!!!

  • I just love the lead guitar in this.....and all their other songs too !

  • I Love playing songs that a lot of people havent listen to or forgot.lynyrd skynyrd has more than just Freebird or SIMPLEMAN

  • damn, I forgot to rate

  • So smooth......and so great

  • the black label society version of this sucks a cock! if you've ever seen zakk live you'll realise he's just an overweight, soap dodging retard- don't get me wrong they used to sound great, but no more...

skynyrd on the other hand, with gary rossington being the only remaining original member, still kick arse!

  • @JimmyG217 uhmmm... no thumbs up for this... no wonder why (thumbs up if you fell the same)

  • @ZakariWyland

dude i was just voicing my opinion, having gone to see him i was thoroughly disapointed; and the so called followers of the band who wear the bls patch on their leather cutoffs are a little sad if you ask me but each to his own.

honestly to god skynyrd are alot better, doesn't matter how many metal heads you get to listen to bls, skynyrd along with many other great bands will continue to make them sound like camel shit.

  • @JimmyG217 Ronnie Van Zant was a master in songwriting and in being the leader of the greatest southern rock band ever to exist.,

  • @tesseagles

    totally agree dude

  • @tesseagles Steve co-wrote this with Ronnie..Just made you wonder in what direction the band was heading...From "ON THE HUNT" to this...Great song...

  • When I heard the Black Label Society's version I thought, that the original must be cool too. But it's not... Sorry...

  • @TheKlopot ** You Are Sooo Right !! You Nailed That One **

  • @TheKlopot you must be a dumb fuck

  • i think that if skynyrd have never had crash (literaly) they would have been big then the beatles or stones, or even zeppelin, but sadly it never happen, and if people cant realise that, its there lose

  • Thank GOD for giving us Lynyrd Skynyrd they have helped me get thru some really rough times and good times too...

  • Ummm. Steve gaines wrote the music and ronnie did the vocals. Zack is awesome...but he was 11 when this was written. It's called a cover...accept it.

  • im only 15 but i love skynyrd!!!! this is real music

  • a versão do Zakk eh muito melhor.

  • Does Ronnie get credit for writing the lyrics on this one? Greatest songwriter EVER!

  • zack wilde did NOT write this song lets be real here

  • @njrun ISN'T ZAKK WILDE IS ZAKK WYLDE

  • Leon Wilkeson's bass line in this song is sick! One of the most underrated bassists in classic rock. And Steve Gaines solo in the middle is awesome. Very country-ish.

  • i love it

  • I have hope that someday we will meet in heaven...

  • just so everyone knows zack wilde wrote this song for them and then hedid it by himself so his version is the original lol but this is still a kick ass version no doubt!

  • @dgf1992 This song was written by Gary Rossington and steve Gaines and the the gitar on the album was recorded by Steve Gaines.

  • @dgf1992 yeah, 'cause Zakk wrote it when he was 10. Love BOTH versions btw.

  • i dont believe it dude no fuckin way

  • One of the best bands ever! Still rock! RIP your forever loved and missed. Neways this album cover is rare and could be worth some money. This came out right before/after the accident. The flames in the back ground really hurt allot of feelings seeing as to what happened so they took the flames off . Both album covers are probably worth something together and in mint condition.

  • @OzzynRoch This song was wrote by Gary Rossington and Steve Gaines in 1976 and recorded on the album Street Survivors in 1977 and you only here one guitarist and thats Steve gaines Rossington and Collins did not record on this song listen to for grace notes that part of Steve Gaines's signature sound.

  • the BLS cover sounds so fucking sad compared to the original

  • @6279447 ha that's rich. Both Versions are good, but there nothing like each other, Night and Day.

  • @hal0seed yea i know they r both good

  • Notice how they go right into the hook. That's how songwriters used to it. These guys were great.

  • The Gutar has a Dire Straits sound to it.....

  • thank you Black Label Society for covering. this original version of the song is shit.

  • Comment removed

  • Many memories ... great music.

  • Both Black Label Society's Version and this one are Great!

  • @666Motorcrush We can only wonder what

    might have been??

  • if only modern bands would stop rushing around throwing out so much shit and take time to be inspired by this simple , beautiful genius !!!!

  • Spettacolo! Grandi musicisti!!

  • Man this song bring me back! Thank you for posting!

  • OMG....best song ever! I cry every time

  • OMG....best song ever!

  • I Think this song was co-wrote with steve gaines. he brought so much to the band

  • "seems to me i took your love for granted"

  • dont get me wrong, i love lynyrd skynyrd, and i miss them very much , but in my opinon, the B.L.S. Version is just so much more organized and it sounds better

  • I cry every time i listen to this song.....I miss the old band sooooo........much!!!!!

  • @9162sandraful Me too!!!!!

  • @9162sandraful yano talking 2 yourself is the first sign of madness

  • @9162sandraful God bless you, makes me feel the same!

Lynyrd Skynyrd is the coolest band ever(I'm 19 so I know what kinda crap is out there nowadays) and I'm going to see them next year! :D

  • @9162sandraful Your comment is awesome. I was lucky enough to see the old band three times // best band ever!!!

  • @9162sandraful zakk's verion can make you smile...

  • @9162sandraful I was raised on Skynyrd (in the 90s) and this song somehow snuck by me. The first time I heard it, I was having a huge fight with my girlfriend and listening to BLS's Mafia album. They did a cover of this and it was a hidden track. It came on and I nearly cried. I didn't realize until a few days later. NO disrespect here, but I think Zakk's arrangement does the words more justice. It's much more slow and somber. Great tune all around though.

  • @drockkclapton As much as I love Lynyrd Skynyrd I gotta agree

  • i love it

  • Zakks version is so different, it's like a totally different song. Just the words are the same. This version is good but I am a bigger fan of Zakks.

  • sweeeet!!!!! take me away to good thoughts

  • Is this the original?

  • @PieMasterX13 Yes of course...

  • @HordeFTL Thanks I am just asking because I thought there are more than one cover of this song thanks

  • @PieMasterX13 yes this is the original release.

  • Damn it I want Ronnie Van Zant Back!!

  • ME TOO!!!!!!

  • Their solos are so beautiful, the make me feel complete. Better than sex.

  • @EranBee no tienes sexo muy amenudo verdad??? los solos son bastante buenos pero no a ese grado jajajaja

  • @EranBee If you think it's better than sex then you're not doing it right!

  • @EranBee then you aint doin something rite.

  • @EranBee uh i dont know about that, sex feels pretty damn good

  • hell yeah

  • @guitarGUNFIGHTxxx apparently you DO if you took the time to comment on it

  • @guitarGUNFIGHTxxx well i guess that's one way to piss off a fag...express your opinion on youtube in a non-offensive manner like i did. i'm a loser for being a zakk wylde fan? well if that's the case, you sir, are a cocksucking knob-gobbler for taking comments so seriously. You WON'T change my opinion so dont even try. SDMF!!!!

  • By definition the original of anything is always the greatest. Anything that follows can be better or more advanced but would not even exist if not for the original. Skynyrd wrote the words and music from thin air. I don't care for the BLS version but I don't begrudge anyone who likes it. Zakk is a big Skynyrd fan and he purposely made his version very different because he knew to simply redo this song would be 1)impossible 2)pointless. Zakk has good taste and I dig that.

  • @guitarGUNFIGHTxxx ..no u shut up

  • 1977 Lynyrd Skynyrd. BEST BAND AROUND! Awesome song. Sad yet played beautifully. They were the best at the time. Too bad we never got to hear this live.....

  • BLS cover ismuch better....sad song must be sad....

  • Credit always goes to the original, and Skynard is one of the greatest bands thats ever existed. Dispite that, I gotta say Zakk's version is better. He wouldn't tell you that himself, but that's how it is. A lot of more feeling, and his solo's never dissapoint, they flow with the song. I also think his cover of Neil Youngs "Heart of Gold" is better than the original. The two song have great lyrics, but the music is a little too upbeat. Zakk always finds a way to perfect the music and improvise.

  • @retic4life were you even alive when this was released, its easy to build on another persons foundation. Wrap a elastic around your head and snap the F!#%K out of it.

  • @flimflam24 dumbass kids feed into the system i wish they could have been so lucky as to live in a better time like the 60s and 70s

  • @retic4life sack wylde sucks dick dude hes a lame ass musician go fuck your self for ever saying any cover of skynyrd is better than the original faggot ass queer butt slammer

  • My favorite skynyrd song. It suggested a new direction they were taking, I think, more country influence; also, this is one of the few skynyrd love/breakup songs I can think of. And Gaines' solo at the end is in my top 10 guitar solos of all time. I wish I could here the master tape, instead it fades out right when he starts shredding.

  • B.L.S......1000,000 XS BETTER.... THAN WHO EVER ELSE DID OR DOSE THIS SONG....ZAKK IS EFFIN AWESOME!!!!! :) HIS VOICE DRIVES ME INSANE!!!!!!!!

  • hey my analysis is, if you dont like this version or lynyrd skynyrd you can go suck one

  • bls verion is nore good more sentimental

  • Zakk's version makes me wanna cry...this version makes me want to stop this video and hear Zakk's version again

  • @jucker1797 thats kinda what i did...lol

  • @jucker1797

    definitely same opinion !

  • No offence to Skynyrd fans but this sounds like folk music with all it's strumming and happy happy joy joy vocals. Black Label Society's cover rocks!! Zak's quitaring brings the lyrics to life and his voice adds to the emotion of the song. BLS on top of this mother fucker!!!
