  • That's just stupid.

Adam is cool and down to earth man. He never claimed to be someone extraordinary. By mocking him you only prove yourself to be a jealous loser.

Bono seems arrogant and annoying sometimes, so he probably has deserved his portion of loathing. But Adam? No way!

  • OMG THATS FUN !!!!! :I

  • It's so funny how some people don't have a sense of humor. Relax people, this a joke, and it's funny because Adam is the last person out of the four whom you would expect to do a solo tour lol.

  • I WOULD SO GO TO THIS CONCERT!!! WOOOOOO! I love Adam

  • two hearts beat as one, new years day, vertigo, until the end of the world, and others have great bass lines, what are they on about adam provides great rhythm to their songs.

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST BASSISTS IN ROCK!!!! The structure of U2's songs is all in the bass and vocal lines (most of their songs anyway:). The Edge is free to do what he does so great because of Adam's bass style.

  • hey people do you know whats the name of the song in 0:00 - 0:07?

  • U2 is a band !

     they are all complémentary !

  • che bufala questo video !

  • I wish I could earn as much money as Adam by playing just the root notes of chords.

  • Hell, I'd buy a ticket if there was a tour like this. Rock on, Adam!

  • CLAYTON ROCKS !!! PERIOD

  • BLOODY HILARIOUS !!! VIVA LA U2

  • Isn't that what every bassist is like? to back up the rest of the band? not to jump around like a complete fool like that gobshite flea from the red hot chilli peppers.. Go easy on Adam folks.

  • absolut unlustig

  • LMAO!

  • u2 is the greatest band ever. ten times better then the crap kids listen to in my school. they dont know who coldplay, elbow, keane, radiohead, styx or pearl jam is, but they all know who fitty cent is. WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TOO

  • @magicskater77 damn right.

  • Hey, never noticed they used a G&L SB-2 for this - not exactly a common bass in Australia. Wonder who's the closet bass player in the Chaser crew?

  • @rud3m3chanical that would be andrew. who is actually a very talented musician and plays all the musical parts on the show.

  • Course that's not even the bass lines he plays.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • woot woot woot woot woot woot woot woot woot woot?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!

  • wooooot????

  • I would go see Adam Clayton, he is my favorite bass player.

  • idiot

  • this is stupid :P

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • this is tottaky not funny

  • haha, this was semi-amusing, but Adam Clayton really is a great bassist. He can play 8th and 16th notes like nobody's f*ck'in business!!!! Seriously, I saw them in concert and he was walking all over that huge stage for two and a half hours and didn't miss a note or lose time. That is hard to do. Plus, he does have other great bass lines that aren't just 8th notes....you would not have the same stomping feel of Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For without Adam's bass line.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I'm a U2 fan and I almost died laughing

  • Anyone who thinks that Adam sucks should listen to second Zagreb show. During Magnificent his bass stoped to work, and ALMOST NOTHING was left of the song. He's brilliant.

  • listen BULLET THE BLUE SKY bass and then talk

  • its true adam doesn't play hardcore bass but

  • Such a shot in the rose, this is hilarious like the bass playing of Clayton.

  • I love U2. I'm a hardcore fan and I agree, this is funny. Adam Clayton is a great bassist. He's not flashy, not showing off. He's just there to back up the song. I love his bass line on Moment of Surrender, Magnificent, Elevation, One, Streets, Still Haven't Found, Gloria, Bad and of course With or Without You.

  • What about New Year's Day? :D

  • Oh yes! New Years Day too! And Mysterious Ways. Even as simple as his bass line is on I Will Follow.

  • I'm a diehard U2 fan, this is funny though. It is true that Clayton is not a technical bassist, but U2 is not about slapping funky bass lines. He's a cool cat that just stays right on time!

  • damn!! i would go!!

  • I love U2 but that's just hilarious

  • f***K

    I love U2

  • Lol!

  • lol, and there is a mistake, all the bass guitarr changes each song, lol but fun...

  • he's a brave man...

  • just look at it this way.... who is better known? this guy or Flea

  • thats funny. techincal or not he's great. he wrote some of the most reconizable basslines in the world. to me he's like Bill Wyman what he wrote will be around much longer than he will be alive.

  • This is hilarious. I could picture that concert. :P

  • did it really happen?

  • Do bani!!!

  • No charisma?! This guy doesn't know nothing about U2 members. >:(

  • This video is NOT funny!

  • I beg to differ

  • Hmm.. ok, I'll change what I said.

This is so funny... if you're jealous of him and/or U2

  • Thats true. But they are open to the fact they arent very good technacilly.

But they more than make up for that by playing with feel.

I'd rather see a less than perfect musician who gives it his all. then a technacilly sound one who hasn't got the heart of a musician

  • Well, a musician with a better technique is able to output more when he 'gives' the same amount as the abominable musician.

  • Yes, I agree there. But look at most of the musicians who are technacilly the best. they stand totally still. And to me thats no good in a musician whose on stage.

  • Just because a guitarist can shred very fast and come up with complex rhythms does not make him any better than a guitarist who can produce a great sound that is in sync with the band's music

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sorry but I really don't get this thing about them not being great musicians. They might be technically efficient, but besides their great talent as artists and their magic as a band, individually they are the best at their positions. I would even take Adam Clayton over Flea, and Flea leaves me in awe. Does "virtuoso" shredding equal better? They can execute and play their sounds better than anyone can execute a sound. Of course freedom of opinion is fine, but they're far from abominable.

  • Technical efficiency is necessary for performers, in particular ones such as U2, who perform large concerts all over the world. A very horrible obstacle which ought to be overcome when arguing about music is the fuddled misconception that a shredder is a virtuoso. This is obviously wrong. A virtuoso is a performer possessing an exceptional level of technical fluency. A shredder is somebody who can play quickly. There should be an economic compromise of autocratic and democratic action in music.

  • Well said clubsandwedge about shredders.

  • remember, the beatles were not known for their technical skill. Same goes for oasis, same for u2. I still think they were all brilliant (in oasis' case, the first 2 albums only). Just great songwriting! Great sounds!

  • COCK SMOKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Oh Yeah!I'll book! :D

  • LOL the funny thing is I probably would pay just to see a solo Adam Clayton concert!

  • What can I say I'm a U2 fan...shoot me for liking a band!

  • hey relax guys ... its just a piece of satire for the masses ... laugh or not - the choice is yours ... then move on

  • As much as I love Adam, and I hate the Chasers...

    This was funny!

    Gotta love Aussie humour!

  • Adam is a great muscian....but he'd be nothing without the others.Besides, I don't even think SAdam would really stand on a stage by himself with just his bass....that'd be humiliating for anybody.

  • Adam Clayton is an awesome bass player. And...he's filthy rich, devastatingly handsome, and a member of the most famous band in the world. I doubt he'll lose sleep over this. The two 20 year old girls he's probably in bed with at this moment might keep him up though.

  • Awesome bass player is a bit of a stretch, but he does fine. But I do agree.

Believe this, if anyone says they don't wish they were Adam Clayton, they are lying!

  • Cut the guy a break. Too many times he settles on the 8th notes, this is true, but there are some decent Clayton bass lines out there.

"Lemon", "Two Hearts Beat as one", "Wire" as some examples.

  • Can't forget "Please", "Stories for Boys", "Heartland", etc.

  • Crap

  • who do you think you are doing such unbelievable stupidities?

  • Fuck You >:( adam is a great musician is not his problem the hes line is to easy what bono plays but you still love him?

  • It is stupid... because it isn't real. It's a joke. Note the laughter.

  • This isn't picking on U2, it's picking on Adam Clayton, and it's funny cause its true. "Just the roots notes of chords"....that is just classic.

  • every king of music use musicians needed for what is needed.

U2 ar not a virtuoso band, no shredding from anyone. just simple rock songs with (often) something to say. its' obvious that Clayton could not make a gig by it's own. but that is for every member of U2. they are a band with their style. stop.

this video is well made and it makes me laugh, but it's not an insult. is a way to joke about the fact that he's not a virtuoso. but he write songs with U2, he's not useless...

  • I disagree that he really has anything to do with the "writing" of the songs. And, I disagree that he is not useless. A chimp could be taught to play the bass as well as him. I do agree that this video is funny.

  • its both and insult to bassest and adamLOL:P

  • This is the only thing on the Chasers that has ever made me laugh.

  • Heh. We gotta learn to laugh sometimes, guys. Can't say it got a giggle out of me, mostly from the standpoint that its short and that they've coulda' done more with it. But the idea certianly is silly. Hey, I'd pay to see him solo. :P

  • None of the members of U2 play super difficult stuff but still make awesome music. No wonder they play to big crowds around the world, have the Guiness Record for the Band with Most Grammies, every album at least goes platinum, and so on. Easy to play? Sure! Awesome music! Of course! :)

  • Or not....I know a lot of bass players that really knows how to play, and they think he's great! No child can play like him...

  • I'm sorry, a child with one month of bass lessons. I'm sorry I was too vague. If you know "bass players" that think he is "great," then I would certainly question their judgement, and certainly you should question that they "know how to play."

  • Or I shall just question your knowledge in this subject...a band like U2 need the most professional players to be the best band in the world...if adam wasn't a good bass player, howcome U2 became as big as they are, you can't be that big with a regular bass player since everyone in the group need to be more than good!

  • Good logic. Then using your logic, since McDonalds is the most popular restaurant in the world, the food must obviously use great ingredients. I see. Good point. McDonalds is a gourmet restaurant.

  • ehhm are you an idiot? mCdonald's is big since it's easy to get the food, and it's cheap...you can't compare music to food =S

to produce good and high class music you need good musicians...to produce good food you don't need good ingredients...but you need good ingredients to make high class food...

  • McDonalds is "big" because people like it. If they served steaming shit, it wouldn't matter if it was "easy to get and cheap." Learn to understand a logical argument. Actually, if you are a logical person, which you are not, you would find the analogy absolutely correct, since it uses YOUR LOGIC. You're using terms like "high class" (????) which mean absolutely nothing and are indefinable. "High class" is your opinion...therefore there is no criteria to you for a "good" musician.

  • So you are an idiot, you've yust proved it!

Just to compare music with food is stupid...

However, why do you think adam is playing in U2 if he's not a good bass player? If a child can play better, why isn't a child playing in U2? The answer is: because you are stupid and don't know what you're talking about, and that adam plays better than a child...

  • You must be a child. If you are older than 14 I would be very surprised, and very sad for you.

  • So you have nothon more to say ;) then I guess I won the discussion ;)

And you know nothing about me or who I am so it's more childish of you to say "how I am" and how old I am, just because you've read a couple of lines that I've written...So I guess you're the one of us who's stupid!

  • You haven't even made one coherent argument.

  • Yes I have, bettere arguments than you, My argument is that there must be a good bass player to play along with edge and larry, and there must be a good bass player to play in U2...the one with bad arguments is you...who compares with McDonald's just like that is you're favourite place on earth...

  • Yes, and I am telling you that that is not a logical argument, because then anyone that plays music you like must be good at playing a musical instrument. Your criteria is totally arbitrary. My McDonalds analogy was using your logic...that if one thinks something is good, then all the parts must be good in order for that to be good. You just aren't a logical person, therefore your arguments are very subjective and based only on personal preferences, which really doesn't even make them arguments

  • Who ever said my friends aren't good at playing bass? I know they are good since they have won prizes beacuse of their talents! So when I say they are good, I really mean it!

  • Arguing online is like running in the Special Olympics - even if you win, you're still retarded

  • Exactly! I always tell people who don't think Adam can play to answer for me why the critics and the record companies did not figure this out around 1980. They never can. Also, many admit Edge is an excellent and unique guitarist, also innovative. Do they think Adam could make up bass lines that fit perfectly with the Edge and also Larry's unique styles if he sucked? Also, Adam has played through more experiments and changes in sound then most bassists ever well. Achtung, Pop.. hes been tested!!

  • i like the chasers, but this is seriously just going too far, and i listened to that dead people song a few weeks ago!

U2 just wouldnt be the same without adam clayton. if you took his bass out youd seriously be able to tell.

    so chasers, leave adam alone.

    ADAM ROCKS!!!

  • It isn't really going to far. It is actually quite accurate. What part of this video would you disagree with? The funny thing is that they are actually playing his uninstinctive simple childish "basslines" to make fun of him. Rootnotes...anyone can play.

  • adam and larry do lots. adam is one of the most unique bassists EVER. GRRR !!

  • Most unique? Unreal. He plays as well as a child taking lessons for 6 months. He plays like someone without any formal training...and he has admitted he has not formal music training. It shows. But he has tons of money...that's a big return on that little talent. Good for him.

  • q pok eh hijos de su.........

  • lol - Adam the best.

  • No U2 without Adam!!!

  • as much as i like U2, i got to say that adam could be replaced easily.

bono is the only unreplacable man in the band.

  • no!n if you are a U2-fan you should know that it wouldn't be the same without one of them !!

  • no!n if you are a U2-fan you should know that it wouldn't be the same without one of them !!

  • what the hell?

Adam's the most hardcore guy in U2!!!

  • What does that have to do with anything?

  • What the fuck ? poor adam.

  • LMAO!!

  • adam and larry are very importent they do sometimes more than bono and edge

  • f...k you!!! adam clayton is one of the best

  • i love adam! i wanna see the adam solo tour! :)

  • I personally believe that he can sing. When he says he can't, he's bullshitting himself. It's real great when he steps in on songs to sing backing.

  • Poor Adam, he´s great!!

  • Without Adam U2 would not be what it is. Adam rocks! I think this video is very funny, and judging by his comments in interviews, Adam has a great sense of humor, and I'm sure he would laugh himself if he saw it.

  • -Without Adam u2 would not be what it is-

That is more true than most people know. Adam was the guy that got the rest of the guys to start acting like a "band" when they were kids. Of course Bono and Edge are the ones you hear most, but Adam and Larry have been just as influential in determining the direction the band has taken.

  • Fine, but this video is making fun of his totally elementary bass playing. A fact that is totally undeniable.

  • Of course he would laugh. What would he do instead? I mean they are using his own uninstinctive, simple, and childish basslines to make fun of him. There is no way for him to respond and say they're lying about him.

  • Well, I am not a musician myself so I can't say much about how professional he's playing may or may not be. Adam (Larry too in fact) often mentioned that he is not a trained musician. In a few interviews Adam says about himself simply "I can play bass". I still think he is great and I enjoy his contribution to U2. Merry Christmas!

  • "Is the concert that you have when you're not having a concert."LMAO :D

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

    Aamzing!

  • If only this were to happen. I would totally go to the show!

  • This video is hilarious. But the bass line in New Years Day kicked ass.

  • Its just a comedy show don't be so pedantic

  • If Adam has no charisma why would a world famous super duper model like Naomi Campbell go out with him?

  • Judge Adam in what he did with his bass guitar performances studio or live! plain and simple. Whether he wrote the bass lines or not. Adam is the coolest bassist imo. Any body who first heard "With or Without You" by U2,like I did, was "hooked" by the most famous bass line ever in music history performed by the coolest Adam Clayton. All his bass performance where right on the money for any U2 song that's why they have their own style.

  • Adam is the dude, he made something out of the little that he had. He was a terrible musician in the early days and really tightened up over the years, while he is not a virtuoso he's inventive, but this vid is funny!!!

  • Most famous bassline? You know nothing. And the song you picked proves it. You picked a song in which the "bassline" plays four root notes that never change throughout the entire song. Anybody that picks up a bass can play that in 1 minute. You meant...most childishly simple bassline in music history.

  • He got proper musical training in '97 before "Pop".

    Just to let ya know...

  • Well, did I say that training at 40 makes a musician? I just stated a fact. I do agree with you on aquireing proficient training before your teenage years. It does ensure a better player, but I believe it doesn't hurt to keep practiceing and maybe have some musical training to improve no matter what age your at. There's always room for improvement. You think Les Claypool just got all his skills and then said "Okay, I think this is a good place to stop practiceing."

  • Les Claypool is a musician. Probably not formally trained, but he is a music lover who loves playing his instrument. Clayton, with actually no improvement in ability at all over a career, is obviously just a guy that plays a bass guitar in a band and that's it. I am convinced by what I hear, that the guy never picks up a bass and practices. It doesn't take any continuous practice to play what he plays.

  • True. It doesn't take that much to play U2's basslines. But as many have stated, they're all about textures and sounds. (well, that's Edges department.) But that's basicly what they're about. But as crazy as it sounds, Mr. Clayton is famous for doing what he does, as many people may hate it or puzzle over it. He's just there to play Bass and support a band.

At least he lost the Afro Mullet...

  • when you can sit down with a bass and write something as simple and effective as a bass hook like 'New Years Day' or come up with a line that blends wonderfully with Edge's guitar parts, let's hear that. What do you want, Adam to apply tapping to his bass lines??

  • Ummmm no. You're being ridiculous. My criticism has nothing to do with his not "tapping."

  • I'm being ridiculous??!! You're the one writing big speeches on youtube pointing out namby pamby arrogance of yours and slating Adam Clayton because in your eyes, he hasn't progressed. Fuck you dick

  • In my eyes? It's not an opinion it is based on his playing, not my opinion. And this video wouldn't be funny if it wasn't SO FUCKING TRUE. Read you donkey, your being ridiculous was based on your overblown statement about tapping. Dumbass.

  • you sound like the kind of guy everybody moves away from when you try and sit next to them.

I don't deal with the arrogant, I just laugh at them.

    Up yours

  • i love Adam Clayton, but this is pretty fucking funny.

  • The Chaser's are the best comedians going around i reckon

  • jajajaja very good!!

  • hey, you don't need to be showy to be a good bass player.. the best bass players shouldn't have the scales and the flowery bass lines.. what's impotant is you keep the foundation of the song.. and that's what u2 is eally good at.. keeping there foundation...

  • the best bass players shouldn't have the scales?? Bullshit. Oh I'm sorry for practicing my balls off dickface

  • Does anyone know the name of the song you hear during the first 5 seconds? It's a nice tune!

  • waterfront by simple

    minds

  • Thank you so much, quick reply too!

  • Lisen to the u2 song- Two hearts beat as one.

  • Yeah and? Someone that plays bass should be able to learn a repetitive sequence, which is what that song is. It is probably his best attempt at a decent bassline, but it would be something a 6 month bass student would learn...although I don't know why they'd learn it.

  • I'm a U2 fan, but Adam Clayton can't play bass very well lol, and I'm pretty sure The Edge wrote all of his basslines until ATUCLB.. well, maybe he's got crazy skills but just doesn't show off

  • What the fuck then would be the purpose of having Adam in the band if Edge wrote all of the basslines? He wrote them himself!! The only bassline he did not write is '40'. But I bet you don't even know that song.

  • From the 'War' album, live version from UABRS. U2 usually end most of their concerts with the song, and I know The Edge and Clayton switched instruments for that song. I've heard it plenty of times, and heard it for the first time years ago. The Edge would hardly play both electric and bass at the same time? The Edge composes really well so I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.

  • What I'm saying is that there would be no fucking point having Adam in the band if he didn't write any bass lines. He is not an idiot. He did not write 40, Edge did, and yes they switched instruments.

  • @ daniel11357, Adam was not available at the time of the recording for "40" so Edge did the bass part in place of Adam. I still believe Adam came up with the bass line for "40". And yes they switch instruments when playing it live.

  • "But I bet you don't even know that song." What are you a child. What is it with U2 fans that argue by saying "I know more about U2 than you do?" Sounds so stupid. Who cares if he knows it or not, dork.

  • it's just a joke people. I myself am a bassist, and i do realize that he's a huge name and has done some great performing and studio work, but the notion of this is very funny to me. His basslines, although simple yet exactly what U2's music calls for, would be hilarious performed solo.

  • Bingo.
