@OsoTheo in essence it is a turbo but it's spooled up by the belt instead of the exhaust. There is some lag like in a turbo but less so than one.

I'm thinking about getting a Vortech Supercharger for my Kia Forte Koup... I mean nobody would expect a car with normally 178hp to have an excess of 500hp! And considering how small and lightweight it normally is, this thing is gonna fly! I think I would die if my car sounded as beastly as this G35! :D

@privatedecker2point0 no offense but a FWD car with 500 + horsepower is not a good idea. I would never want one with any more than 300. Torque steer becomes a serious problem after 270 hp. With 500 plus it could rip the steering wheel from your hand. Interesting idea in theory but in reality it's a bad idea.

That's what a intercooler is for, it cools the intake air before entering the intake manifold. My preference is definitely a turbocharger for any application, especially small displacement motors. Supercharger not only is pulley driven which creates unnecessary strain on your engine, coupled with the increase in HP that your engine isn't already accustomed to. Both are great HP adders though. The Cobalt design didn't go from a supercharger to Turbocharger for no reason.

Keep in mind that a supercharger is driven off the pulley, which also strains the engine further. While a turbocharger uses exhaust

@LiLgInUwInE it only takes a few hp to turn the blower inside the supercharger, you are right though, but turbos use exhaust which is also a bad thing cuz your introducing heat into your intake. exhaust heat heats air passing through intake. turbos get mad hot, and ALL of your intake air must pass through it= bad thing. the air should be as cold as possible. my preference: defintely supercharger. but both are GREAT!

I have the same setup on an 05 coupe. It dynoed at about 225 at the wheels before, about 350 after. It whirrs just like this one at idle. I roll down the window and turn off the radio just to listen to it sometimes... its lovely.

Centrifugal superchargers have a whine at idle. It's just the way it's designed. Had a buddy with a 4-door G35 with a centrifugal charger on it. Sounded sick everytime I pulled up next to him at a light but he said he got a lot of people telling him to change his belt because it's going bad.
