just to set things straight, that car has jack shit on a cummins. or any american made diesel for that matter. you can say the v10 has more torque, but it has no where near the low end torque that the cummins inline 6 produces. If these engines were so powerful and great we would see them in big rigs all across the world.
but anyways, nice car, although the truck just needed a little help getting his momentum going it was still fun to watch
Funny how you admit it has more torque than the cummins and then it has jack on it. I guess an engine of the same power or more cannot do the job if put in the place of a cummins? haha
The reason we dont see this engine in big rigs is the same as the one we dont see cummins in cars or SUVs-it is not VW or Audis choice of business.Instead TDI engines are common many races like Paris-Dakar rally, 24hrs of Le Mans (Audi R10 and R15TDI - 600hp V10 engine.Cummins main focus is different.
It general diesel engines have the low end torque compared to gasoline engines. The V10 TDI MAX torque is reached at 2000RPM where you are most of the time while driving. Do you really need all your torque at idle RPMs?What good is it when you drive off and you are over that?Just try to be logical here. Also that torque can be shifted to higher RPMs if that is where you need it.
the point being, that car cannot tow nearly the amount a cummins could, all that low end torque is used to get rolling. having all that torque @ 2000 rpms does not help much for you when your towing
Search for Touareg towing 747 on youtube and you will see it towing just fine though it is not built for that. The engine put in the Dodge-guaranteed to tow the same amount. Actually, 2000 is right where I am when towing and I can control that via the gearbox(did you forget about that part?).Go tow with your cummins and tell me how often you stay at 1000rpm?
Which engine you like is all up to you. However, dont be ignorant and accept the facts that I mentioned in all my previous posts. Its a fact that this car can do things your cummins can and some even better.BTW, not to rub your cummins pride, but I wonder why Ford is the best selling pickup truck in the world for the past 33 years and not Dodge and cummins?Must be coincidence (smile)...
Before you post anything else please go gather some facts on the TDIs so that you have some credibility and people take you seriously. Having a discussion with you otherwise is worthless...
I didn't know you could get a Cummins diesel in an F150. Oh wait, you can't because an F150 is a Ford and they don't use Cummins engines nor do they put diesels in the F150. Nor does Ford put diesels in SUVs. LOL
I will tell you what it cannot do - fit in a SUV ;-)
It is German engineering indeed. Have you seen another stock SUV pull a Boeing 747 plane? Do you know that the 5.0 V10 diesel engine of the Touareg puts out 313 horses and 550lb-ft of torque stock compared to the bigger 5.9L cummins which puts out ONLY 235 ponies and 460lb-ft torque stock? Oh, AND the cummins uses german engineered common rail fuel system by Bosch?
For the price you pay for it, it better make more power. In the end, given the same amount of cash, I can make a 400hp-500hp, 800-900lb-ft of torque cummins. And if I want luxury, Ill get an f150. No one makes trucks like Americans.
No one makes cars like Germans!!! The difference between german luxury and your F150 is beyond comparable. Spending all that cash on power or torque wont make the crappy handling of a truck better. And still the stock 5.5L V12 TDI has more power than your boosted cummins. It is much more efficient - period.
Cars have their purpose and so do trucks. When a car can pull a truck or a huge plane - that's impressive. When a truck pulls a car - not so much.
Cummins diesel engines in the Dodge Ram come with 350 hp and 650 lb-ft torque. The Touareg is a great towing vehicle but must admit that any american diesel pickup will pull a Boeing 747.
gotta love German cars!!! :)

Notice how you compare the Touareg with a big pickup truck - exactly my point here. Send a Touareg to do a truck's job ;)
