I wish Steam Town would restore 4012. I know it would be hard to store it, but all the need is a shed and a Y to turn it around. It still has all of its parts, and I mean everything!!! All it needs is a bit of work and it would run again. I mean, maybe it needs a rebuild, or some new rods, but it can run. All it needs really is a loving crew with lots dedication for her.
@justindw199 Boiler work, wheel work, bearing work, inspection, spec work, man hours, etc. Your talking millions of dollars. There is a train museum near me and had one redone. 1.5 million, just the rebuild. no tare down, shipping or reassembly. That is straight work on the whole engine. It doesnt sound like much, but yes, there is a lot that goes into these including inspection for safety.
@duane2072 I just went a few weeks ago to Greenbay and looked over the 4017 for a few hours. A piece of art they are and massive. If you have never seen one, go pay a visit.
@justindw199 Last I saw that engine, they had problems with people getting into the cab and destroying the glass gauges. Hardly any of the originals are there anymore.
@duane2072 I agree, millions would have to be dumped into her to get her to run. Lot of having to re-manufacture and machine new parts
@ 4:23 the weather is kinda shity so it looks like a tornado could happen so the 4014 crew speeds up and ween you do the fly by on the track the diesel crew says holy shit they are hauling ass!
Union Pacific has a steam program, but no Big Boy operates. Now, Norfolk Southern is going to do something similar to UP with a 22 state tour over four years with a steam train. There might be public excursions involved. Steam is back on NS after a long drought.
@keikoandgilly dude trainz 12 for sure, easier to work on way more content friendly forums, infact way more forums, tons and tons of websites for content, multiplayer, trainz ichat, everything about trainz 12 is better than railworks
Nice vid, not a fan of computer animated vids for trains but this is done really well 5 stars for the vid, love it!

@justindw199 You missed off money at the end - that's the problem with keeping a steam engine running. They're just really damn expensive.

Too bad the actual 4014 looks so sad now. A fantasy would be to see her pull out of that Pomona parking lot under her own power! Cool vid!
