Camaro had the mustang beat in the 80's but let Mustang get way to far ahead by cutting the Camaro production. Ford had to many years to improve it by consumer ratings and field tests. Personally I think the Camaro died after the 80's. I will take my 1988 IROC-Z over this car any day.
@ThePatriotsfan01 lol the Camaro trashed the Mustang in performance and looks from '93-02. The LT1 and especially the LS1 were worlds ahead of the gutless 4.6 that ford went with all the way untiil a year ot 2 ago. But they stull haven't made the Mustang look masculine, still looks like a car 16 year old girls drive.
I personally frown on the fact that these 2 muscle cars will resort to superchargers for HP. I guess I am just old fashioned like that growing up being proud of what I built without the need for power adders.
However I am happy America still harnesses the ability to make fun cars. On a side note. Ford was once bailed out of 23,000,000 recalls back in the Reagan days for those thinking GM/Chrysler was the only bailout ever. Hey if worse gets to worse-wont be the first time I built my own hotrod.
To be honest, in my opinion the real problem with new continent cars is that they can't put the power to the ground. Many of them reaching 650Nm can't compete with M3.
Lets hope that BOSS 302 will indicate the right direction. Where handling is the fun factor.

And from the skidpad numbers you would never know that their is a live axle outback. Ford is still making the live axle work and stays true to the pony beginnings: light car with a big V8. I'm a car enthusiast first and a camaro fan second but I appreciate good workmanship regardless of the make.

Top Gear tested the ZR1 and didn't like either until they got to run it balls to the wall. Top Gear tested a 300C against Vauxhaul Monaco VXR (GTO) and Jag S-Type R. Top Gear has a terrible habit of hating EVERYTHING American. They use the Racing version of the other cars but not the SRT8 300C..reliable source you got there ;)

They don't hate everything american. Hammond said the 2010 'maro was a good showing overall. They quite liked the old 300c. But other US cars they don't like are pretty much because imports are usually better i.e. The GT500: good only in a straight line.

@flipfloplogic That's because all the money you are paying goes into the performance of the car, not much the quality and reliability. Most of your hard earned money is going for the 550 HP engine under that hood, that's why muscle cars are not really cars that are easy to live with daily, but more for fun.
@flipfloplogic No one buying a Mustang GT or Camaro SS is specifically concerned about the gas mileage. They wan't performance. I wouldn't ever buy a Fiesta unless I wanted gas mileage, and I wouldn't ever buy a Camaro SS if I was worried about the cost of gas and insurance.
@Marshmallowrex The Camaro SS handles really well. .90 Lateral g on decent surfaces, .80 g in a figure 8, 105 foot 60-0. That means the SS pulls .04 less on a lateral g, but .07 better in a figure 8. Also the SS stops in a foot less than the STI, and runs equal 0-60 times, but almost a full second faster in the 1/4 mile. So ya, The SS handles just as well as the STI, and has a ton more power/torque. Hence why I always beat STI's on road courses.
@Marshmallowrex You need to learn what your own car does best. Autox is meant to have short distances, tight racing lines, and hard corners. Most of the time speeds will stay below 70 MPH..hence why STI's are awesome on the courses. They have ideal powerbands, great handling, and explosive out of tight corners. On a road course though you need more torque and horsepower hence why the SS is good on road courses. I've raced guys in STI's on road courses, they don't suck..but they don't win.
@Marshmallowrex I actually had a low 11's Geo Metro a few years ago..thing was painted 3 different colors and looked like a complete joke. I like STI's a lot, but no STI should even bother racing with an SS. The STI is for autox or rally (if you can ever find a place to do that) and the SS is for 1/4 mile and big road courses. They aren't meant to run against each other. The STI would MURDER the SS on an autox course, and the Camaro would kill the STI on a strip. It's just how it goes.
@marcolotr but in the magazine the grill looks a little different, the chevy emblem is blue, and the grill has straight horizontal silver lines to make it look like the old 69' camaro's

GM coundlnt hang with the BOSS 302 in the corners or straights, so they dropped a bigger vette engine in there. Well at least they will be able to pull on pretty much anythign in the straights.

@FalcondelSur The Camaro would easily beat both of those, the boss 302 has nothing on the ZL1, if you want a race take the GT 500 supersnake vs. The ZL1 thats when you have a real race.

@xcrunnner646 Eh, a super snake vs. a 2012 ZL1 isn't really a race, the super snake has alot more power and torque but it weighs about the same as the camaro. The 2013 Shelby with 650 or so hp stock vs. the ZL1 stock is a good comparison. Just for the record, GM fanboys always talked shit about Ford having to supercharge their cars to compete, but what does GM do when they're getting wooped by the mustang GT as well as the boss and shelby gt350 and gt500? They supercharge the camaro lol

@FalcondelSur camaro would be the only supercharged one, kind of a big advantage. I think Shelby gt350 or 500 vs an aftermarket challenger vs the camaro zl1 would be interesting. Especially in a year when the gt500s are supposed to be upgraded

Oh Look! Another jellybean,.. but THIS one is red,...Chevy puts a de-tuned LS-9 in the camaro and we have something new.....Whoopie! In 2010 I liked the camaro, (didnt like the price tag to much) but it was retro,...I bought a GT mustang2012, (drive-out for $30,456.00) And if i put a intercooled pro-charger on it i bet ya I can spank the heavier and WAY more expensive camaro. Lets see, 36k to out run a 50+ camaro,...Hmmm, no brainer!

@noobasdfjkl At first ya it's a problem. It was weird to try to check my blind spots and not be able to see anything, but eventually you just start watching your mirrors more so you know who is where. That and like with any performance car, you can just gun it and make a clear space to get in haha

@Marshmallowrex I provided the numbers and they're actually better than an STI (thats not from GM either) so either the SS handles like a champ or the STI handles "ok."
Top Gear tested the ZR1 and didn't like either until they got to run it balls to the wall. Top Gear tested a 300C against Vauxhaul Monaco VXR (GTO) and Jag S-Type R. Top Gear has a terrible habit of hating EVERYTHING American. They use the Racing version of the other cars but not the SRT8 300C..reliable source you got there ;)

@TheBulldawg4life Uh... what the hell are you talking about? they liked the ZR1 just fine. They recommended it over the R8 V10. The only problem they had was it kept breaking on them.
They don't hate everything american. Hammond said the 2010 'maro was a good showing overall. They quite liked the old 300c. But other US cars they don't like are pretty much because imports are usually better i.e. The GT500: good only in a straight line.

I do like the new camaros but they're way overpriced for what you get. Mustangs are overpriced too. A $26000 camaro doesn't have as many features as a $23000 loaded ses fiesta (far better gas mileage also). Thats pathetic.

Most of your hard earned money is going for the 550 HP engine under that hood, that's why muscle cars are not really cars that are easy to live with daily, but more for fun.

@flipfloplogic No one buying a Mustang GT or Camaro SS is specifically concerned about the gas mileage. They wan't performance. I wouldn't ever buy a Fiesta unless I wanted gas mileage, and I wouldn't ever buy a Camaro SS if I was worried about the cost of gas and insurance.

@Marshmallowrex The Camaro SS handles really well. .90 Lateral g on decent surfaces, .80 g in a figure 8, 105 foot 60-0. That means the SS pulls .04 less on a lateral g, but .07 better in a figure 8. Also the SS stops in a foot less than the STI, and runs equal 0-60 times, but almost a full second faster in the 1/4 mile. So ya, The SS handles just as well as the STI, and has a ton more power/torque. Hence why I always beat STI's on road courses.
Throw in the MRS and another 125 hp..

@Marshmallowrex You need to learn what your own car does best. Autox is meant to have short distances, tight racing lines, and hard corners. Most of the time speeds will stay below 70 MPH..hence why STI's are awesome on the courses. They have ideal powerbands, great handling, and explosive out of tight corners. On a road course though you need more torque and horsepower hence why the SS is good on road courses. I've raced guys in STI's on road courses, they don't suck..but they don't win.

@Marshmallowrex I actually had a low 11's Geo Metro a few years ago..thing was painted 3 different colors and looked like a complete joke. I like STI's a lot, but no STI should even bother racing with an SS. The STI is for autox or rally (if you can ever find a place to do that) and the SS is for 1/4 mile and big road courses. They aren't meant to run against each other. The STI would MURDER the SS on an autox course, and the Camaro would kill the STI on a strip. It's just how it goes.

@CyberGTX09 They picked the ZL1 moniker for this car because on the Alpha chassis no Camaro will ever be light enough to deserve the Z/28 badge.
ZL1 or Boss 302 would be the best of those 3 IMO, and will be worth more as a collector car later. It just comes down to preference.
