Sigh.... It's been more than a few years (!) but watching this video brings it all back... I remember seeing them in Vancouver, BC,, Canada, at the Town Pump ( long gone, now) Miss those days where talents could showcase what they were about. "Reality Shows" are fun, but so much has been lost with the "tech age". Ironic about the first ever MTV video - "Video Killed The Radio Star"... Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, lads from Brother Cane, love ya and wishing you well!!!!!!
Brother Cane was\is awesome!!! Damon is an amazing singer!!! The best drummer ever is Mr.Scott Collier!!! Roman is awesome musican as well!!! I love them!!!
I've seen these guys since they pretty much started. They are from rural north Alabama in the Geraldine area of DeKalb County. Great guys. Damon still plays here and there and when they weren't tourning he was usually playing a local venue.
This video is more than decent: it is one of the best crafted music videos of all time. It tells a story, it "sings a song". I use this video and the songwriting of Brother Cane to this day as examples of what I want their work to be. Joanne Stanulonis, CEO, The Amazon Institute
I agree with those of you who loved Brother Cane. I saw them open for Aerosmith in Charleston WV back in '93. I've been to hundreds of concerts since but I still remember these guys. I bought their first CD when it was released and nearly 20 years later I still have it. I think they only had two, they released a second one called "Seeds" I liked but apparently most did not because it went straight to the bargain racks and Brother Cane subsequently disappeared forever. It's sad they're gone.
I have all there cd's and i've seen Bro Cane 3x. Its a damn shame they never got the attention they deserved. Their live shows were great when there was 12000 people or 150. Sadly BC was a great rock band with talent and in the 90's gtr solos were poison, along w singing in key and talent. So kids that may be why you never heard of Bother Cane
I always wondered why this version of the song is different than the one on the CD. Anyone know if this version was available as a single or anything?
Maybe I don't know shit BUT, I am pretty sure that about the time Kelly Grey started producing Brother Cane, was about the time they departed from this great sound in lieu of that Seattle thing? just throwing it out there.
And we wonder why former bassist, Glen Maxey, left the band before their second album "Seeds"? He was clearly a true blues-influenced musician. After these guys abruptly changed their sound from bluesy rock and roll (this album) to a more post-grunge-derivative (when they started working on "Seeds"), he probably didn't want to go along with their unexplained ubrupt change that many fans would interpret as a sell-out.
Brother Cane was an enigma to me. This album (which I still have on CD) was so cool and it seemed the guys were true to their musical style and talents. Then, after this album, they apparently succumbed to something tragic. Take a guess,,, that's right, the "Modern Rock Revolution" of the early 1990s, which strangely-enough was already fully in progress when this album was out. Still, they decided to follow the musical and stylistic trends of the day. BC was dead as soon as "Seeds" released.
What with Brother Cane, The Black Crowes, Buck Cherry and so on, I was hoping for a resurgence of great Chicago R&B-by-way-of-the-Stones rock in the mid 90's, but no, we ended up with Korn instead.
Brother Cane was one of the best acts out in the 1990s, had the pleasure of seeing them three times live and was blown away with the whole band, particularly Damon Johnson. Also got to see DJ playing guitar for Alice Cooper last fall, and the boy's still got it big time. Wish they had caught on more in the 90's because the songwriting and musicianship is top notch.
They were an alternative/ metal band from the early 90's. I vaguely remember them getting some radio play with another song ("Got no Shame"?). This wasn't a hit, but The video is decent.
@turdburglar27 turd...not to notpick, but there is nothing "alternative" about Brother Kane. Straight up kick-ass rock adn roll with a southern twist and a lot of attitude. But this is not grunge, alt-rock, or any other label...these guys would have had more success if they came out with their first album in 1988 instead of the 93-94 range.
they had another hit called "and fools shine on". damon johnson, the lead singer/guitarist, was the lead guitar player for alice cooper for three years and currently heads his own bad. if you do a search for brother cane you can find his website.
he formed a band with his drummer (roman glick) and 2 guys from Queensryche (sp?) called "Slave To The System" and still tours regularly, especially in the southeast.
Scott Rockenfield from Queensryche was the drummer in STTS, and long-time Queensryche producer Kelly Gray rounded out the group with some mean rhythm gee-tar.
Damon is playing in a country band now (Whiskey Falls), AND a hard rock act (The Motorbelly), AND the world's greatest bar band (The Welfare), AND, a rockin' little group that does some excellent covers of classic albums, like the Beatle's Abbey Road (Black Jacket Symphony).
