I had some better stuff for 2011 but the portable hard drive died only months old and i lost a lot of footage including my first and good UP heritage shots. also lost the footage of the BNSF sibley river bridge. a place that's out of the way and i don't get to that area much. :(
When i lived in Edwardsville (suburb just west of KCK), you could set your watch to the UP line that went through; they had trains going by every 15-20 minutes at times). My uncle used to be an engineer for MoPac (and later UP). He drove trains from Tribune in extreme western Kansas to the K9 yards in KCK.
As of late, I've noticed primarily coal trains on the UP line through Wyandotte County.
I remember railfanning the west bottoms during my visit to KC. Its always busy in the mornings its awesome. Railfanning on the triple track section where the NS train went through was neat.
@LeChungProduction for a buffer because of the flammable loads in the tank cars. So if there's a derailment the locomotives are separated from the tank cars so hopefully less of a disaster should something catch on fire.
