@hypersonicchaos12 this is definately the first time that I've ever heard that Io would crash into earth in the distant future. THe moon will be around for another couple billion years. Yellowstone will one day blow, but life will go on. For a very long time
The real head of the park Jacob Lowenstern is one of the friendliest and open guys Ive ever had the absolute pleasure of e-mailing. He and the park staff there do a great job. If he knew this was going to happen, hed be the first one to tell you. Cheers to the scientists at the YVO!
One thing one must realize is that without the vast complex of natural cycles that life on Earth would not be even possible. That the miracle planet we live on is full of natural strife. Without these kinds of geologic, climatic, and precessional changes life may not have evolved at all. We live on a hostile and unforgiving planet. One must appreciate the fact that these things happen and accept that disasters like that are the natural scheme of things.
i think it would be great if one of these went off like the earth taking a huge shit, why is everyone so afraid of a little bit of utter carnage and anarchy i think it would be great and make life a bit more interesting than the shitty lives we make for ourselves at the moment working hard to buy big TVs and cars that wipe our asses for us. lets work hard just to survive and be greatfull that we have had the gift of experiencing experience
@danrogers29: Yeah, and I'll bet you visualize yourself as one of the survivors, right? Not one who gets conked by a 20 lb rock, or gassed in your car, or who freezes to death in your townhouse in Salt Lake City.
@puncheex nope not really, i dont really care what happens to me we all die at some point so why do people see it as a disaster if they all die at once id rather die in something as spectacular as one of these babys going off than i would for my final moment to be shitting myself on a hospital bed with more tubes inside me than the london underground. also i dont live in salt lake city im from england its a few miles down the way
the backstory with this reporter is silly. There's no way Ms. Chin has the background or experience to talk about an eruption at yellowstone. The only backstory that makes sense is that Chin is a tabloid reporter, which makes her character unlikeable.
the last eruption shd be bout 640000 yrs ago. And bout every 600000 yrs yellowstone will erupt. But it hasn't done so in 40000 yrs. So its overdue 40000yrs. it can happen now, tmr, nxt week or nxt yr! It can be any day, any time! So we have to be prepared!!!
@mybabyjoongie The earth changes over time. Consider that there are 3 known previous eruptions at Yellowstone - 2.1 million years ago, 1.3 million years ago, and 640 thousand years ago.
difference is 800,000 between the first two. 660,000 between the last two. Now it's been 640,000 years.
It's significant, but according to those figures at least it's not like we're overdue or anything. It could easily be 100,000 years before it goes again.
@mybabyjoongie: Let's see: one 640,000 years ago, one 1.3 mya, and one at 2.1mya, and the one before that was 4.45mya. That series averages out to 1.11 million years. How does that work?
The Yellowstone Supervolcano erupts every 600,000 years. The last tIme it erupted was 599,998 years ago. They've gathered evidence for this. The next super-eruption is due in 2 years... I don't think the chances are very very small... The next eruption is due in 2012 for god sakes!! GET THIS THROUGH YOUR MINDS PEOPLE. 2010 WILL happen sooner or later. And so will this eruptIon.
Not sure that I agree with the 2012 story yet. I have done the research and there would be more signs then there are now by now if it was gonna blow in 2012
Sorry Camryn, your information is incorrect. Please do NOT act like you have facts when you don't. The last eruption was 640,000 years ago, not 599,998. If I am wrong, please site your sources so I can verify them. Also, before the last major one (there was a minor one 70,000 years ago), there was one at 1.2 million years ago and another at 2.1 million years ago. THREE points can NOT be used to "predict" the next quake. More than this are necessary. We do NOT know the next eruption date.
@keokiracerhalsteren: i was referring to Yellowstone. There were non-caldera forming, magma extrusion eruptions in the time period mentioned; the extruded rhyolite is what the park is famously named for.
to everybody freaking out about this, relax. even if this does happen, we'll all be dead by the time it does(unless we do something really retarded) and there are a million other ways an apocolypse can happen, the ones u should be worried about: nuclear weapons and pollution :)
It's scary how this will happen sometime... I heard it'll wipe out the sun and cause the world to go into darkness. I just hope it erupts when I'm dead..
Yellowstone is Gods way of saying, SO... You think your nuclear bomb tests underground are powerful do you. God continues, by saying, now it's my turn, I will show you how retarded you are to think that you hold power in your hands, i will bring you on your knees, and you will call my name once again, and i will hear you. For as retarded as you are, i still love you.
The HAARP creates Earthquakes, hurricanes and tornados, mind control with the ELF tech....and much more. The time is coming that God will override all of this in the Tribulations. A major prophesy is being set up in Israel by April. God controls all of this. He is going to return.......not long now.
@pedarikarhu actually, its the world's second most powerful volcano, under the siberian supervolcano in the desert there, who erupted and rowed out 95 % of all life 185 million years ago
@pedarikarhu Dude. When it goes up America goes down. It is going too kill everyone within 80 miles of its blast zone. And the kill rate goes from 99.9% and decreases every 300 miles. By 1%. It is going too kill at least 80% of everyone there. And the others are going too be coming up from their shelters. Too witness a world without life. A world burning, destroyed. Desecrated. Hellish. It is gods fist and its hitting America with a furious vengeance.
@godofmajora Im going to repeat myself. Its a fucking volcano that has formed in earth a LONG time ago. We just gotta hope that by the time that shit erupts, we are allready exploring new planets to live in.
Wow your view of god is one that's an evil asshole. Good thing god doesn 't exist, you sound delusional though. You are a cluess little bitch. It's not the eruption that kills it's the ash cloud that follows you fucking idiot.
@godofmajora Not just America. The ash cloud will spread across the world. Krakatoa created the year without a summer, killling crops and causing massive food shortages for a year. They estimate Yellowstone would cause 6-10 years without summers. Africa, India, Japan, China, and third world countries would nearly starve. Europe would be thrown into chaos, as would the survivors in America (and there will be many). No matter where you live, you wouldn't be able to hide or run. Billions would die.
@godofmajora Ignoring the completley bias religious view at the end of your statement. It will not destroy all life. A meteorite crash landed on our planet and wiped out the dinosaurs, but it did not destroy life, otherwise we would not be here. This Volcano will significantly slash the population on our planet, but it will not destroy life. Indeed, Humans may all die from the nuclear winter conditions that follow, but we are not 100% of life on this planet.
@godofmajora When it erupts, it will cause ashfall to cover the entire country and will trigger the other volcanoes in the world which will then erupt and will cause death worldwide. It's going to kill everyone in the world without spreading across the oceans. It's unfortunately overdue. It can erupt at any time. It could even erupt right now. Heck, it could be erupting right now!
@kardas4210 The human race didn't wipe out during the Toba eruption, so why would Yellowstone kill us all now? Back then, man had not a single sign of a clue what a volcano is let alone a super volcano. We know now part of what is expected during a volcano eruption. Of coarse it could erupt anytime it wants to, doesn't mean it will be a super eruption. Even if it was a super eruption, and we were ill prepared, there is still more of us than was back then...
@kardas4210 ... WHAT?? Who said anything about yellowstone triggering volcanoes all around the world? 2012 the movie? That wasn't Yellowstone. According to that movie, it was the SUN, which increased the temperatures of the core, which in turn affected all of the volcanoes.
@kardas4210 You may be talking about in supervolcano part 2, a single VEI 5 eruption triggers the whole eruption, which is of multiple smaller eruptions which map out the new caldera. And in most documentaries it says the same. Tell me the name of the documentary you watched.
@alyshaya Dude, the only one that talks about that stuff: 10 Ways the World Will End. It specifically said: "And if one Supervolcano isn't enough, if one pops, they all pop." That means that if Yellowstone blows, all other will go off and we'll be screwed. So, yeah. Doesn't matter where you go on this earth when it happens, you'll meet the same fate. Worst part: It's overdue. It could go off any day now.
@alyshaya The real question is, when WILL it go off? Answer: whenever it feels like it. Pretty much, your futile attempt to screw me up has failed. Go and watch more Discovery and come back when you have more knowledge of the earth and it's disasters.
@kardas4210 I'm just questioning how a single volcano, super or not, could trigger eruptions all around the world. I heard that sometimes a single volcano can trigger another... IF they are close together. I've seen better disaster documentaries than the one you showed me, that in fact seemed more logical and reasonable. They should have EXPLAINED how a single volcano could trigger multiples.

@kardas4210 True, the documentary DID say that. But... how can that be right? The other supervolcanoes have nothing to do with yellowstone, except for the fact that they are all volcanoes. Ugh... I'm gonna give myself a major headache trying to figure that out. Because that documentary didn't explain a dang thing. What I want to know is WHY would yellowstone trigger an all out volcanic catastrophe spreading throughout the globe, was there any evidence of this type of thing in past?...
@alyshaya Let's see here. Apparently, just one supervolcanic eruption (only Yellowstone? How? I'm lost there, too.) is enough to somehow trigger all volcanoes on the world. That's all I know. They didn't explain it anymore than that. I don't know why. Probably they aren't smart enough to figure that out.
@kardas4210 I assume they think that the shock waves from such a large explosion would be enough to trigger other volcanoes, though I don't think that would be enough to be a worldwide event. However, the amounts of ash/rock sent into the atmosphere would be enough to lower global temperatures and greatly reduce the amount of sunlight available to plant life to live on. Our best advantage for surviving would be our technology, though death tolls from the event would still be rather high.
it says that there was a volcanic winter - because of all the ash and dust ect - this happened with mount st helens - but not that much - only 1 or 2 degrees (apprantly)
a supervolcano would cause temperatures got go down much more
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
zionist that are working with the Illuminati and Jesuits are. they are putting their own people on the chopping block and they aren't even jews. They come from West of the caspian sea.
@nshewardisababydoll You call it a caldera, I call it Yellowston, Whyoming. Yellowstone is the caldera and can go off any second now (in years hopefully)
I like how all the people who played shady characters on Stargate guest star in the authoritive rolls. lol. They probably stepped through the gate and saved their own asses.
i don't think this could be the end of the world, but a lot of people and other things will be destroyed. when i was watching the movie i realised: maybe one, two or three people who are sitting here know this is real. it's gonna happen. it's not made my hollywood.
i think 8 of 10 people don't know anything about this vulcano and what kind of danger it is. i was watching the movie 2012 and saw about yellowstone being one of the reasons for the word to end. i already knew about this vulcano because i told my class about it a few years ago. nobody knew at that moment anything about it.
yes, there are three options, two plates collapse, 2 plates floating away from each other, and two plate scratch side by side. The last one is seen at volcano along pacific ocean. Where the sea plate gets under the land plate and melting in magma. the plates moving away from each other riple the ground open, allowing magma to flow out as lava. these also most likely case in those break ups, you see in movies. (you should see 2012 ;) )
2012 is Geologically absurd. Oceanic plates are more dense than continental crusts. Therefore they ALWAYS submerge beneath continental crust. California will never beak off and fall into the ocean.
why are you reply that to me..? That is just what i siad the the sea plate gets under de land plate...so clearly you are not replying to me. the 2012 referment is to see a eruption of yellowstone in total.
Not always. Suggest you learn and research slip-fault-lines. Suggest also you research and learn about the Cascadia Mega-Thrust Fault-Line, as well as the Continential Shelf that California sets upon. Many have "education". Few have "Knowledge". I hope you will research, learn, and gain more knowledge. Peace and Blessings Be With......
@FlippieX: Except this is not a inter-plate event. So far, it has happened entirely within the NA plate. That is not to say it couldn't at some point cause the NA plate to begin breaking up, but so far it has been so far from an edge that that hasn't happened. Up to this point, it has merely blown a series of holes in the plate.
@meteormanmike: On the average the Y hotspot has resulted in the land surface along the line of travel being lowered about 6 km from the surround. It is the rototiller of god, and it's heading for Canada; should cross the border in about 30 million years.
They're wrong about Mt. St. Helens... The Katmai eruption of 1912 was the worst eruption in American history. It wasn't the Mt. St. Helens eruption of 1980.
No I'm not 'dumb', beleieve it or not, I'm actually a geologist. I was responding to the person above that referenced that Katmai eruption as being the most "devestating" in our country's history. However Katmai is isolated, virtually no lives lost, as opposed to Mt Saint helens which killed number persons and casue millions of dollars worth of damage. Therefore it has been the most devestating eruption in the US thus far, hands down. Yellowstone has never erupted in human history.
Just saying. That long ago 74k or 75k isn't really a drastic difference. They also say later that the pyroclastic flow reaches speeds of up to 700km/h but then later say 800km/h.
It's a movie, can't give them too much credit I suppose.
Yellowstone is waiting for the receeding Ice caps to reduce planatery pressures, allowing for increasing geothermal activity.
Massive and catastrophic eruptions, coupled with increased sizemic swarms, will plague the Earth on a scale never before seen.
I beleive and hope that we, as a species, are advanced and intelligent enough to realise our mistakes, will, endure our potential extinction, and begin again.
I highly doubt that atmospheric pressure can precipitate an eruption. However if Yellowstone does blow then I agree that humanity will need to make use of all our wit and strength to make it through this disaster and the following severe famine which will likely follow as the earth experiences severe winters due to ash and gases in the atmosphere spreading across the globe.
some people just cant wait in their rooms, they want to look at wiered things instead of looking ta them safe in a computer. a computer is your best teacher
i highly doubt yellowstone is going to erupt in 2012.. you can't predict that kind of thing.. super volcanoes will go off whenever they want to... it might erupt 4 yrs from 10 yrs from now.. point is.. when it does erupt.. it's gonna cause a catastrophic disaster..

One must appreciate the fact that these things happen and accept that disasters like that are the natural scheme of things.

i think it would be great if one of these went off like the earth taking a huge shit, why is everyone so afraid of a little bit of utter carnage and anarchy i think it would be great and make life a bit more interesting than the shitty lives we make for ourselves at the moment working hard to buy big TVs and cars that wipe our asses for us. lets work hard just to survive and be greatfull that we have had the gift of experiencing experience

the backstory with this reporter is silly. There's no way Ms. Chin has the background or experience to talk about an eruption at yellowstone. The only backstory that makes sense is that Chin is a tabloid reporter, which makes her character unlikeable.
DieFatorLiveThin 1 year ago
the last eruption shd be bout 640000 yrs ago. And bout every 600000 yrs yellowstone will erupt. But it hasn't done so in 40000 yrs. So its overdue 40000yrs. it can happen now, tmr, nxt week or nxt yr! It can be any day, any time! So we have to be prepared!!!
mybabyjoongie 1 year ago
@mybabyjoongie The earth changes over time. Consider that there are 3 known previous eruptions at Yellowstone - 2.1 million years ago, 1.3 million years ago, and 640 thousand years ago.
difference is 800,000 between the first two. 660,000 between the last two. Now it's been 640,000 years.
It's significant, but according to those figures at least it's not like we're overdue or anything. It could easily be 100,000 years before it goes again.
zapproowsdower 1 year ago

We do NOT know the next eruption date.

refuckulate420 1 year ago
@godofmajora Not just America. The ash cloud will spread across the world. Krakatoa created the year without a summer, killling crops and causing massive food shortages for a year. They estimate Yellowstone would cause 6-10 years without summers. Africa, India, Japan, China, and third world countries would nearly starve. Europe would be thrown into chaos, as would the survivors in America (and there will be many). No matter where you live, you wouldn't be able to hide or run. Billions would die.
RoxRock4ever 1 year ago
@godofmajora Ignoring the completley bias religious view at the end of your statement. It will not destroy all life. A meteorite crash landed on our planet and wiped out the dinosaurs, but it did not destroy life, otherwise we would not be here. This Volcano will significantly slash the population on our planet, but it will not destroy life. Indeed, Humans may all die from the nuclear winter conditions that follow, but we are not 100% of life on this planet.
SilverGothWolf 1 year ago
@godofmajora God doesnt exist dude... but volcanoes do.
94diesel 1 year ago
@godofmajora When it erupts, it will cause ashfall to cover the entire country and will trigger the other volcanoes in the world which will then erupt and will cause death worldwide. It's going to kill everyone in the world without spreading across the oceans. It's unfortunately overdue. It can erupt at any time. It could even erupt right now. Heck, it could be erupting right now!
kardas4210 1 year ago
@kardas4210 The human race didn't wipe out during the Toba eruption, so why would Yellowstone kill us all now? Back then, man had not a single sign of a clue what a volcano is let alone a super volcano. We know now part of what is expected during a volcano eruption. Of coarse it could erupt anytime it wants to, doesn't mean it will be a super eruption. Even if it was a super eruption, and we were ill prepared, there is still more of us than was back then...
alyshaya 1 year ago
@kardas4210 ... WHAT?? Who said anything about yellowstone triggering volcanoes all around the world? 2012 the movie? That wasn't Yellowstone. According to that movie, it was the SUN, which increased the temperatures of the core, which in turn affected all of the volcanoes.
alyshaya 1 year ago
@alyshaya It's true. I watched it on the Discovery Channel. You're probably just too ignorant to give a fuck.
kardas4210 1 year ago
@kardas4210 You may be talking about in supervolcano part 2, a single VEI 5 eruption triggers the whole eruption, which is of multiple smaller eruptions which map out the new caldera. And in most documentaries it says the same. Tell me the name of the documentary you watched.
alyshaya 1 year ago
@alyshaya Dude, the only one that talks about that stuff: 10 Ways the World Will End. It specifically said: "And if one Supervolcano isn't enough, if one pops, they all pop." That means that if Yellowstone blows, all other will go off and we'll be screwed. So, yeah. Doesn't matter where you go on this earth when it happens, you'll meet the same fate. Worst part: It's overdue. It could go off any day now.
kardas4210 1 year ago

What I want to know is WHY would yellowstone trigger an all out volcanic catastrophe spreading throughout the globe, was there any evidence of this type of thing in past?...
alyshaya 1 year ago
@alyshaya Let's see here. Apparently, just one supervolcanic eruption (only Yellowstone? How? I'm lost there, too.) is enough to somehow trigger all volcanoes on the world. That's all I know. They didn't explain it anymore than that. I don't know why. Probably they aren't smart enough to figure that out.
kardas4210 1 year ago
@kardas4210 I assume they think that the shock waves from such a large explosion would be enough to trigger other volcanoes, though I don't think that would be enough to be a worldwide event. However, the amounts of ash/rock sent into the atmosphere would be enough to lower global temperatures and greatly reduce the amount of sunlight available to plant life to live on. Our best advantage for surviving would be our technology, though death tolls from the event would still be rather high.
aztecsword12 1 year ago
@kardas4210
it says that there was a volcanic winter - because of all the ash and dust ect - this happened with mount st helens - but not that much - only 1 or 2 degrees (apprantly)

classical hollywood earthquake: the ground splits open into a bottomless chasm. Does that really ever happen?
meteormanmike 2 years ago
yes, there are three options, two plates collapse, 2 plates floating away from each other, and two plate scratch side by side. The last one is seen at volcano along pacific ocean. Where the sea plate gets under the land plate and melting in magma. the plates moving away from each other riple the ground open, allowing magma to flow out as lava. these also most likely case in those break ups, you see in movies. (you should see 2012 ;) )
FlippieX 2 years ago
2012 is Geologically absurd. Oceanic plates are more dense than continental crusts. Therefore they ALWAYS submerge beneath continental crust. California will never beak off and fall into the ocean.
doctorhobo90 2 years ago 4
why are you reply that to me..? That is just what i siad the the sea plate gets under de land plate...so clearly you are not replying to me. the 2012 referment is to see a eruption of yellowstone in total.

Not always. Suggest you learn and research slip-fault-lines. Suggest also you research and learn about the Cascadia Mega-Thrust Fault-Line, as well as the Continential Shelf that California sets upon. Many have "education". Few have "Knowledge". I hope you will research, learn, and gain more knowledge. Peace and Blessings Be With......
Hawk3766 2 years ago
@FlippieX: Except this is not a inter-plate event. So far, it has happened entirely within the NA plate. That is not to say it couldn't at some point cause the NA plate to begin breaking up, but so far it has been so far from an edge that that hasn't happened. Up to this point, it has merely blown a series of holes in the plate.

In terms of numbers of lives lost, as well as economic impact, St. Helens was a far more devestating eruption.

Massive and catastrophic eruptions, coupled with increased sizemic swarms, will plague the Earth on a scale never before seen.
