Tasuya Naka has revolutionary techniques of movement that everyone should pay attention to. Also, what he says about how the martial arts supersede even karate (which is merely a weapon) is at the core of the japanese beliefs and it is sad that this mentality simply cannot penetrate the values of the western society.
@Freestyleartclub Another Muay Thai fan!!! Okay, Muay thai has some good techniques, but fighting did not start with MT!!! BJJ and MT are not the last word in fighting! Kyokushin went to Thailand and won 2-1 against their fighters in the early 60s. Depending on who they face, a Thai boxer could lose to a karate practitioner.
@CLEVELEFS kyokushin has nothing compare with muay thai..last 15 years kyokushin wants their fighter won k1 but only andy hug could win after 7 month hard boxing lessons how to protect head..which kyokushin fighters has no muscle memory..after thaiuland 1960 3 oyamas best student leave kyokushin because oyama told them kyokushin best but oyamas best student was knoced out, buy thai fighter who was 8 kg less then him...
@Freestyleartclub Kykushin fighters defeated Thai fighters 2-1!!! Nakamura knocked out a Thai fighter and he did not leave Kyokushin until much later. He was one of the best students of Oyama! Muay Thai are not good boxers until they take western boxing lessons.
@Freestyleartclub There is not "ultimate" style!!! People from every style have been knocked out!!! Muay thai, BJJ, Kyokushin, Shotokan, No style is without flaws.
Tatsuya Naka's interview: At JKA, we practice Karate as a martial art, not as a sport. For example, in European way of thinking, the important thing is to score as many points as possible in a given time frame. The main emphasis is on who won the match, and that is the main standard of accomplishment. However, in Japan, we focus on HOW we got the point, such as the interaction with the opponent, strategies, whether you KNEW you scored even before made the move, zanshin, etc. (continues)
Now, there are many who practice karate as a sport, but I would like those people to also see karate from different perspective, as a Japanese culture.
I don't understand Russian but I understand Japanese so there you go if you were wondering what he said;)
@shot87 Nonsense! They practice a sport and the use of the term Budo is double talk. I am a JKA life member and I would know. It is troubling to me that a supposed honorable organization could delude reality this badly. There is a huge gap between original karate and the JKA. They use the name of Funakoshi in daily communication yet abandoned his karate for this.
Relax, all I did was translate the interview. It's NOT my opinion, it's Testuya Naka's interview.
Now if you ask me my opinion, I understand what you're saying. I am a practitioner of TKD and it's even more diluted and distorted (plus the false propaganda). But "I" as a practitioner, try to make MY training as true to the martial art as possible, and I think that's what Naka was trying to say about the headquarter dojo of JKA(though not necessarily as an organization as a whole)
great job...respect.
