If I had the money, I'd still get the GT-R, even though it's (IMO) the ugliest of the three and at the heart a Datsun, but it's the cheapest (in Oz) and has back seats, thus somewhere for my 1 y.o. son to sit :) I'm sure he'd appreciate that

@enemay Um, AWD makes the tires far less of an issue-the only car to really benefit is the Vette. The GTR comes with Super High Performance summer tires that were designed for it so stop crying. BTW the same level of tires on the other two cars are avail for Nissan and THEY chose not to use them.
And as far as icy/off road-bullshit. The tires specifically on the GTR warn against ice and rain and the suspension would get crushed off road. AWD doesn't mean it's a rally car.

@enemay The tires on the GTR were specifically made for it and are classified as "extreme performance summer" by Tire Rack, they are hardly regular sport tires. It already has AWD so the difference will be FAR less. Nissan could easily have made DOT track tires like the TOYOs factory spec and didn't. I doubt they didn't test them when Porsche used something similar. And they didn't make that big of a diff when porsche switched to them either.

Um, 1st the Dodge Viper ACR is faster around just about every track than the ZR1 and it does it WITHOUT four wheel magnetic shock control or the PTM. The benefit of the zr1 shocks is that it can perform in race or daily driving situations without compromising either. It's not magic. And the ZR1 is faster that the GTR - any year - around every track I have seen BEFORE the addition of the tires. Obviously you are confused. Sport cups come on the Viper, porsche GT2 & GT3, BMW m3 gts etc.

@sw1000xg So what, that is simply the reference to the tires made for the GM models. All those cars I mentioned had version designed for them. In fact, Nissan had the tires on the GTR made for it too. I watch the video and missed the part where it said "there way more slick and designed for more grip than any other out there!" or anything that resembled that. And I have done a comparison on fastestlaps countless times and the GTR is SLOWER than the ZR1 PERIOD, even before the tires.

@sw1000xg It is a fact that DCTs shift faster and maintain power better during shifts than a manual. If you don't believe this than you really need you head examined. This means cornering is more stable when shifting because you are less likely to have traction shock. And without the GTRs tech based AWD it would be considerably slower around the track. R34 was both RWD and FWD and BTW how much slower is it than the new GTR? A lot. The new AWD system is far more advanced.
Why does F1 and Indy use them? Why does the Le Mans cars - including the corvette use them? Why does Nissan give a more expensive transmission to the GTR if it isn;t better? Why would anyone? And you don't shift during BECAUSE of traction shock, not because it is the way you do it. With a DCT or auto, there is no abrupt power exerted and if it would be faster to change in the corner you can and it would be much safer to do so. DCTs are CONSIDERABLY faster on all accounts than a manual.

@enemay As far as off-roading, the GTR has no place there, it wasn't designed for it at all. The AWD doesn't mean it's capable of going off road. Suspension and ride height matter most. As far as gravel and desert (arid land not after dinner treat), those conditions would be handled very similarly by all - poorly but livable. I do agree the GTR will perform better in varying climates because of the AWD, but that doesn't mean shit because it would still be terrible.

@enemay I'm aware that with snow tires and AWD the GTR can drive in the snow, I said it's normal tires couldn't handle it. Snow tires make a huge difference, sometimes more than AWD. I know people that drive RWD in snow with snow tires without problems. This isn't "off-roading," they are diving on normal roads. No suspension upgrades needed and no ride height increases. Gravel is far different and salt flats aren't an issue for either. Even EVOs and STIs need mods to off-road mildly aggressively
@enemay And I mean cars like a Mach 1 mustang, which doesn't have traction control like the ZR1, and has smaller tires and relatively high TQ and it did just fine. Contrast that with the time he needed to be pushed down the block sideways when he got caught after it snowed about 1/3 of an inch and he still had on his summer tires. He couldn't even move, we had to push him. My point is snow tires make a huge difference., but the AWD will take advantage of them better than RWD. Still not off-road

Corvette ZR1 1min 20.4 ( a whopping 17 places below the GTR ) Vette Z06 gets 1min 22.4 ( a staggering 28 places lower than the Nissan ) When all 3 are on road legals the Vettes are slaughtered by the GTR. In "real racing" most cars are RWD and the fact that racing cars use the top technology such as racing sequential gearboxes, racing suspension etc etc The Nissan GTR uses an dual clutch transmission which is known to be the fastest gear changes possible just like Formula one cars. Mechanical engineering is changing for the better not taking the fun away.
I was expecting a typical GTR promo with this video, but...I was impress with how they honestly brought out each cars strong points and weak points, while also commenting on each cars characteristics. @enemay Um, AWD makes the tires far less of an issue-the only car to really benefit is the Vette. The GTR comes with Super High Performance summer tires that were designed for it so stop crying. BTW the same level of tires on the other two cars are avail for Nissan and THEY chose not to use them.
And as far as icy/off road-bullshit. The tires specifically on the GTR warn against ice and rain and the suspension would get crushed off road. AWD doesn't mean it's a rally car.

@enemay The tires on the GTR were specifically made for it and are classified as "extreme performance summer" by Tire Rack, they are hardly regular sport tires. It already has AWD so the difference will be FAR less. Nissan could easily have made DOT track tires like the TOYOs factory spec and didn't. I doubt they didn't test them when Porsche used something similar. And they didn't make that big of a diff when porsche switched to them either.

Um, 1st the Dodge Viper ACR is faster around just about every track than the ZR1 and it does it WITHOUT four wheel magnetic shock control or the PTM. The benefit of the zr1 shocks is that it can perform in race or daily driving situations without compromising either. It's not magic. And the ZR1 is faster that the GTR - any year - around every track I have seen BEFORE the addition of the tires. Obviously you are confused. Sport cups come on the Viper, porsche GT2 & GT3, BMW m3 gts etc.

@sw1000xg It is a fact that DCTs shift faster and maintain power better during shifts than a manual. If you don't believe this than you really need you head examined. This means cornering is more stable when shifting because you are less likely to have traction shock. And without the GTRs tech based AWD it would be considerably slower around the track. R34 was both RWD and FWD and BTW how much slower is it than the new GTR? A lot. The new AWD system is far more advanced.

Why does F1 and Indy use them? Why does the Le Mans cars - including the corvette use them? Why does Nissan give a more expensive transmission to the GTR if it isn;t better? Why would anyone? And you don't shift during BECAUSE of traction shock, not because it is the way you do it. With a DCT or auto, there is no abrupt power exerted and if it would be faster to change in the corner you can and it would be much safer to do so. DCTs are CONSIDERABLY faster on all accounts than a manual.

@sw1000xg The rims weighed 5lbs less a piece, the new seats made it easier to drive and definitely would help lower times. The tires are a big difference but 6 seconds over like 15 miles = stop crying. Um, an no the GTR isn't usable in any weather. The summer tires it has specifically warn against driving in snow and rain and they would SUCK when the temp gets below 50 degrees F, that is a fact because of the compound. If you put snow tires on both the GTR would fair better but still not great

@enemay As far as off-roading, the GTR has no place there, it wasn't designed for it at all. The AWD doesn't mean it's capable of going off road. Suspension and ride height matter most. As far as gravel and desert (arid land not after dinner treat), those conditions would be handled very similarly by all - poorly but livable. I do agree the GTR will perform better in varying climates because of the AWD, but that doesn't mean shit because it would still be terrible.

@enemay I'm aware that with snow tires and AWD the GTR can drive in the snow, I said it's normal tires couldn't handle it. Snow tires make a huge difference, sometimes more than AWD. I know people that drive RWD in snow with snow tires without problems. This isn't "off-roading," they are diving on normal roads. No suspension upgrades needed and no ride height increases. Gravel is far different and salt flats aren't an issue for either. Even EVOs and STIs need mods to off-road mildly aggressively

@enemay And I mean cars like a Mach 1 mustang, which doesn't have traction control like the ZR1, and has smaller tires and relatively high TQ and it did just fine. Contrast that with the time he needed to be pushed down the block sideways when he got caught after it snowed about 1/3 of an inch and he still had on his summer tires. He couldn't even move, we had to push him. My point is snow tires make a huge difference., but the AWD will take advantage of them better than RWD. Still not off-road

Corvette ZR1 1min 20.4 ( a whopping 17 places below the GTR ) Vette Z06 gets 1min 22.4 ( a staggering 28 places lower than the Nissan ) When all 3 are on road legals the Vettes are slaughtered by the GTR. @12389h the 2013 gtr costs more than a zo6. zo6 can run 11.0's all stock. 10's with just a exhaust. bring up the ZR1 and it does 10.66 stock. zo6 get's 1.13g handling for a 74,000$ car and the GTR get's 1.10(or so) i like both cars but when it comes the GTR vs vette(good driver in it) the answer is always going to be Corvette.

@sw1000xg the zr1 is stock and posted better times than both the 2013 gtr and the porsche. 10.66 with a manual rwd system is alot more challenging than 10.9 with 4wd , automatic , paddle shifters. i rather take the vette over the GTR anyday.

All you GTR assholes are the reason the fun is being taken out of racing, the way it used to be. Pretty soon all the manual transmissions will be gone, there will be no more NA engines, all cars will be using AWD, and most importantly, there will be no need for true drivers and there will be no separation between a soccer mom driving a GTR fast and Micheal Schumacher. This is the sad, cold reality of what is becoming of real racing and mechanical engineering.

In "real racing" most cars are RWD and the fact that racing cars use the top technology such as racing sequential gearboxes, racing suspension etc etc The Nissan GTR uses an dual clutch transmission which is known to be the fastest gear changes possible just like Formula one cars. Mechanical engineering is changing for the better not taking the fun away.

I was expecting a typical GTR promo with this video, but...I was impress with how they honestly brought out each cars strong points and weak points, while also commenting on each cars characteristics. @alawyfamous GTR would win unless the conditions & track were in perfect condtions, & if the driver had A LOT of seat time drag racing it on that track. GTR's are exactly what he said "triumph of computers over phyisics" which aid it to low 11's, while this Z06 w/ better tires weighs 150lbs or so pounds more b/c the MR suspension so 1/4 times r being reported the same as b4 11.7-11.8 athough there's been numerous low 11's & even high 10's w/ just drag radials, either way both r very impressive!
