@JahLoveOnline It does mean something. It means a lot. It means that someone is taking time out to learn something. How can't you see the value in that?
@JahLoveOnline That "academia crap" is the door to a better future for millions of people. Value may be subjective, but what's not subjective is that there is a heavy value placed on education in this culture. Now you may not like the culture...that's your perogative. I do know that the most educated communities (and i do mean FORMAL education) in this country happen to be the most prosperous.
@desertdetroiter, "door to a better future"? maybe a decade ago now its the door to debt for life and brainwashing ideology lectures.
A degree may get you a higher paying job (which isn't so true anymore) but it definitely doesn't make you any smarter (unless its in a hard science of course) which is why I think its real lame when people brag about their degrees and thinks it makes them better then people who go straight to work after being let free from the government education camps (school)
@JahLoveOnline Banner wasn't bragging...he was simply stating that not everybody in hip hop lacks formal education and is incapable of pondering and discussing serious topics. The man is just a semester and thesis away from his masters degree despite holding down a career. That's an accomplishment. If black folks are gonna admire something, then THAT'S admirable. Black folks can sing, rap, dance and dunk basketballs. That shit doesn't impress me anymore.
@desertdetroiter, see that's what I mean right there. Correlating "the capability to ponder and discuss serious topics" to "going to college".
He has money why bother with college other then for the "prestige" it gives you? Real dudes don't need that to have self esteem, they give value to they own lives and dont need a degree to make them feel smart.
A degree isn't whats "admirable" its what you do with it if you feel you need one to be successful.
@JahLoveOnline I don't know that he has money, and neither do you. But if he has money and is pursuing higher education, what does that tell you? And i agree that a degree isn't admirable, but working to attain one is most definitely admirable. It shows committment and the virtue of finishing something that one starts. What's the alternative to that? Or better, what's been a PROVEN alternative to that for successful black people? More education=more success.
@JahLoveOnline Money isnt everything. Try bringing the money and material things with you when you take your last breath. Learning as much as you can before you die always gives you a better life...
you say money isn't everything and point out that you can't take it with you when you die. Then you praise learning instead... Yea as if you can take knowledge with you when you die... lol
Then you say learning gives you a better life. Yea and money doesn't? money is a representation of value, value must be created, earned, etc.
I don't even know what your point it, your making no sense
@JahLoveOnline Youll understand at some point in your life what I meant. Its obvious your soul is possessed by the root of all evil (money) at this point in time. If money is everything then why would any rich person commit suicide? Kurt Cobain was doing pretty great when he blew his brains out.
@JahLoveOnline My 2 cents...Actually our souls are eternal, so when we transition over from this life, we do indeed take our knowledge with us, $ is monotary, we have been programed to believe in it, monetary gain may have been around for a long time, but not longer than self love, love for others, knowledge, wisdom & overstanding, notice none of these things listed are physical like $, $ is attainable, even when we abandon these things listed, but these things can never be attainable through $.
I respect David Banner but lyrically I don't know that he deserves to be on a 9th Wonder beat. He had songs with Chris Brown Get Like Me and that club song Play and now it's this? It just doesn't fit to me.
I sent Banner an acapella for this album and hope it makes it..BUT..if not..this joint will be a Classic..Imma kick wit him in L.A. for some days and soak up mo game ya know...and B4 hataz say I'm full of it...this has been my dude since '01...MISSISSIPPI STAND UP!
I been a die hard david banner fan. since he was with crooked lettez and they had the grey skies album. I also love the 9th wonder. so this will be a great moment for fans of real hip hop.

@desertdetroiter, value is subjective....
And don't compare "taking time out to learn something" with enrolling yourself in a college to be taught a bunch of academia crap.
