hi i just bought a his 5870 but a have a cooler master " extreme power plus" 650 watts. i wonder if that could be a problem , do i need to change my power supply ?
If anyone still has a Monarchcomputer Hornet Pro case lemme ask will a 5850 fit in it if I use a 2nd PCIE slot if the motherboard has 2 PCIE slots? Cause i saw some pics of my old PC's case having a 7900GTX in it.
know this may be a stupid question, but how wide is the ATI HD 5850 card? i want to get one so badly, but hate to spend so much money on something that won't fit. I think i am good on the width, it might be a little tight, but will work, i just need the width because i have a fan that could possible get in the way. i read somewhere that it is 5inches long, which seems extremely wide...
my setup. q6600 3.0Ghz 8800gt and nexus nx 5000 500w psu...will i be able to upgrade to this video card. i heard that it consumes less power than 8800gt. is that true.
I got the Sapphire 5850 and it just barely fit into my Antec 900 case. I plugged in the two power inputs before trying to place in the slot. No way I could have put it in then plugged in the power unless I removed the hard drives.
woo it would fit in my case! One question though i want to get this card with a AMD Phenom II x4 quad core 955be and gigabyte MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard , would these be great together? Also for ram im not quite sure can someone help me out?
@ Anyone who would be helpful with my question, I will be getting this card and i might be scared, I have a sunbeam Transformers case and i was wondering if it would be able to fit? Please reply and thanks.
well, it fits in the big mid size tower, i fit 2 5870's quite nicely into my haf 922 and my friend modded an antec 300 case and it fit in there, not practical though
290mm is 11.5inch, so if you have a case with 290mm space for card the 5870 will fit in your case. Example my lancool k62 has 290mm space. its not full sized case and it fits the 5870. I dont have one but it will fit. Also the 5870 will fit in a coolermaster 355 elite :) it has 285mm space. VERY tight fit in a tiny case like that.
I ordered a Sapphire 5850 Wednesday from amazon since my coolermaster Centurion 534+ may not be long enough to fit the 5870. It's too bad it will be 11 days before the card arrives at my doorstop due to unavailability :(
@3DGAMEMAN hey man i want to become a revier like you, but i can only trow out so much of my pocket money to buy products to review, how can i get sponsors if i start reviewing products?
iskrukutum21 , why don't you measure the lenght of your existing card, add any extra clearance it has and see if the total is more or less than 28cm. Pretty simple really mate. And no, you cannot CF a 4*** card with a 5*** card, YET.
Run a search for ' Lucid Hydra' from MSI. This chip allows ANY combination of GPU's to be used .
pretty sure teh 4870 is 10'' so the 5850 being 9 1/2'' you do the math. I know how you feel though i barely got my gtx260 to fit in my case with like maybe 1 cm to spare.
I'm having my doubts about the 5870 fitting in the antec 1200, cause that case looks like it's configured for ATX boards which come two inches shorter than that card, and it doesn't look like that kind of space exists in the 1200
I'm not sure about your 1200, but I got the lowly 900 mid-tower, and I was able to get my 5870 to fit, by simply shuffling around my HDD arrangement. Good luck to you!
The 1200's actually pretty beefy. I've built a couple of systems using that case. The 5850s and 5870s will fit in it nicely with plenty of room to spare. As another pointed out here, just search Antec 1200 HD5870 and the first hit should be the video in question.
the 5850 has it's power connections on the end... the 5870 has them on the side.. after you hook up the power on both you almost need the same amount of room... so they are almost the same size
Almost, but probably about an inch to an inch and a half shorter, including six pin connectors at the back of the 5850. I had to shuffle around my HDDs, but I'm just pleased as punch I was able to fit my XFX 5870 into my Antec 900 mid-tower.
Ati for lower level and cheaper graphics card that quite also provide good gaming needs. However Nvidia known as the green giant is for the hardcore top of the line graphics card.

Not necessarily, running tri-channel doesn't net that much real performance over dual-channel.. DDR3 in and of itself on the i7 is fast, you will gain a little bit of bandwidth by running in the 6gb or 12gb configurations.. but nothing of consequence.
Overclocking wise, you would be better off just going to 4ghz on air (easily doable, any newbie can on the i7) and saving yourself the extra money..
i myself run in tri-channel 3x2 (6gb) because any more memory than that is useless for me.
Nvidia is FORCED to be the jolly green giant because they like to charge you first born sons for their products. He might have a socket 1156 based system (i7-860/i7-870), that way having 8GB would make sense since the socket 1156 only support dual channel and not triple channel =)
it doesn't matter either way, the performance benefit of tri-channel over dual-channel on these platforms are negligible in over-all system performance.
is it better? of course.. will changing from dual > tri wtf pwn benchmarks? no
will changing from dual > tri be anywhere near the performance boost of just overclocking the i7 to 3.8~4.2ghz+ ? no
etc etc. it's cool if you have the money, but it's by no means a necessity or even a recommendation. it's purely enthusiast.
