I love the idiots who cycle on the pavements to avoid traffic lights. Ffs. And I am also amused by the absence of high-vis and cycle helmets. At least it is obvious why a 20mph speed limit is a good idea.
@Addisongrey There are many bicycle lanes, but not in the town centre...btw, Cambridge is one of the most cyclist friendly towns in the UK, with tons of bicycle lanes. Nearly all the Cambridge University students use a bike. It's everything but scary.
@KatoKid85 Motorised vehicles have no more right to the road then bicycles. The people riding bikes are doing it to get from A to B, and just maybe you are holding them up sometimes as well. They have as much right to ride their bike on the road as you do to drive on it period.
Ever heard of walking? Buses? At least, please consider drivers and pedestrians around you. No one likes getting assaulted head-on by a cyclist who appeared out of nowhere.
@superstartash funny thing is, that cars move much faster than bikes at the drop of a lazy foot on the gas pedal, so who's more likely to appear out of nowhere without time to react? Think things through, please.
@superstartash Try looking, you don't say why you don't see them coming. Also why isn't your tax money spent on proper cycle lanes - a CHARITY is begging money for national cycle routes, for fuck's sake. This is Britain in 2011, where we suck the car's cock whilst tax money is spent on bombing Libya for oil and you blame the cyclist a little bit to readily, it seems (correct me if I'm wrong). Blame the car culture, the shit-for-brains politicians and the short-sighted pricks who vote them in!
Go out on the street and get hit by a car, you're not likely to walk away from 1000kg+ hitting you at 20mph-60mph+ - think about the momentum. Then try a 100kg or less of cyclist and bike at 10mph, the force doesn't compare! Sorry if people cycle like drunk and stoned gibbons in Cambridge, if that's the case, but most cyclists are the ones to suffer in a collision with anything, so their mentality, as a percentage, is far FAR better than those swanning about in their cars, phone at their ear...
I'm not defending cyclists or motorists, both are road users and both should know how to properly use roads for everyone's safety. What this video clearly shows is that motorists are taking far more care on the roads than the cyclists, weaving frantically in and out of traffic. In such cases a pedestrian is more likely to get hit by a bike weaving around or coming onto the pavement, not a car.
I had the misfortune to be in cambridge yesterday . What a totally shit place to drive through . Not one road sign to help you get out of the place .Must be so little there , they dont want you to leave . Asked a local guy for directions , he agreed and said its a bloody hole lol .
If they got rid of the cars in this street imagine how much more space there would be for the cyclists who are in the majority, and who dont take up all the road space.
@KrunchyJD Who pays the road tax? Oh yes, car drivers do... And if you must insist on cycling on our roads, at least have the decency to watch where you're going, rather than weaving in and out of moving traffic like these morons.
@HelC001 Yeah right. If car drivers paid the full cost of driving they would pay approximately $5 US per litre in petrol tax + an additional $5000 when they purchased their car. This is based on Sydney Australia, but the figure their would be similar.
Cycling saves govt money on health costs, and bicycles unlike cars do almost no damage to the roads. Before CAGERS bitch about who pays for roads they should hope that user pays does not come into practice as they would be the losers.
@KrunchyJD Yeah but how am I going to haul a load of plywood on my bicycle? Or get to work when there is a foot of snow on the ground? Or take all the kids to school? Or how can I get laid in the back seat of a bicycle? Or go more than 30mph? Or travel in anything besides nice weather? Or travel long distances in a short period of time?
@KatoKid85 First off I never said there should be no motor vehicles anywhere, maybe not in this street. Secondly you can cycle in bad weather, thirdly if there was not so many cars on the roads and there was a safe way to go kids could ride their bikes to school. Fourthly cars have a habit of spreading out travelling distances because they demand too much space, so you can get from A to B actually quicker in a place designed for bikes. The Dutch cycle in the snow.
@KatoKid85 No they dont, It is completely wierd for people design a city so that the only way to get around is by car, a vehicle that is about 1% efficient. It is stupider again to design a city that if designed normally you could walk to the same type of places you drive to in the same time. It is also madness to design the city solely on a form of transport that kills so many every year and causes so much pollution. The Dutch are smart, it is other countries that are stupid!
@KrunchyJD the dutch ARE smart (a bit rude sometimes as they think too much of themselves, which can come with the territory of intelligence, but anyway...) Just come back from Holland, Belgium and France, and the French drivers give cyclists plenty of space (relatively), but drive too fast, never slow down. Dutch drivers I didn't notice much, now that's because they have good cycle provision, and ALL DUTCH WOMEN HAVE NICE LEGS. English girls don't compare in that regard = a stupid culture.
@HelC001 No you don't, general taxation does. Given that this video is from the UK, we'll discuss the British laws here, OK? I agree some of the weaving is dodgy on here, though, but how many of those car journeys are unnecessary, especially in a built-up area at rush hour?
@HelC001 car drivers DO NOT pay Road Tax, do some fucking MINIMAL research instead of spouting myths! They might pay tax on their vehicles, but it's not directly for roads, EVEN THOUGH cars and heavier vehicles weigh around 10x more than cycles, and destroy the road much quicker, and so SHOULD pay for the road, even though they are very inefficient and to be discouraged where not absolutely NECESSARY.

@plantiumrocky The lines are squigly to indicate no parking at all! Because there is a crossing in the middle of them hence the traffic is stationary every so often.
I disagree. Cyclists are fine as long as they stick to a code and don't get in anyone's way. I cycle daily. You probably never learned how to ride a bike which is why you declare everyone who can a "cunt" which is just a lame insult.
Yep, nothing like a youtube idiot to, one hopes, make feel sheepish of his or herself.
I can ride a bike, and used to regularly when I was a young child.
Now I drive, I realise the majority of cyclists are a menace, paying no attention to the laws of the road but blaming motorists for any near accident. I often see cyclists go through red lights, turn without displaying that they are about to and such.
Thanks to cyclists, car drivers have to be on their guard throughout their journey in case some careless cyclist does something dangerous.
I cannot deny that a great number of cyclists are a source of a number of accidents, but what you said about drivers needing to be on their guard throughout their journey just seems compulsory.
Cyclists learn laws of road, THEN get back on the road.
@WLBFC Crap, as the larger more dangerous vehicle car drivers should be on guard at all times. If all those people on bikes suddenly drove cars it would be gridlocked EVEN MORE..
@WLBFC Hey genius, cyclists behave like that because there are only 24 hours in a day and waiting for traffic lights AFTER waiting for all the congestion (cars) is a pain, they see car drivers driving like fools, etc. It would be a good excuse, but personally I also find it weak of cyclists. But it ain't the majority necessarily. I drive and cycle DAMN WELL: matter of pride. I have cycling proficiency, Driving Licence (100% correct exam), I drive, but not in London as it's stupid to do so.
@bluntedinatx 'cyclists', not bikers, but then I forgive you for your American English, my toker brother. You're right about the motion being cool - especially when blunted, that kind of motion is cool.

i am working in Cambridge at the moment and the amount of cyclists is staggering! i live in norwich - which is second to cambridge in bike use, and there are nowhere near as many!

bleeding dangerous cyclists in cambridge! where is this, i cant figure it out
kalkenbrenner 3 years ago
Cyclists are dangerous? It's motor vehicles that are *REALLY* dangerous. Which do you think are responsible for 3,500 deaths a year in the UK?
lsmike 3 years ago 4
I assume you don't live in Cambridge then. The cyclists around here mostly seem to have death wishes.
jendavenport 3 years ago 4
You haven't answered the question - how many people are killed by cyclists each year, and how many by motorists?
lsmike 3 years ago
My previous post was in response to mrjfin's question,
" is anywhere in US so many bycyclers? vs cars i dont believe so!"

I don't think so, not in the U.S., unless it's some sort of charity ride to raise money and that would be a one or two day event.
America is a car centric society. For a large part bicycles are still thought of as toys
The rising price of oil is making alot of Americans to make changes to their habits and life styles.
I would say that most Americans would drive to the bathroom if they could.

and thats why i hate cambridge!!! ive lived in and around cambridge all my life and the bikes and studants drive u up the wall!!!!! they have no consideration of other road users and that vid just proves that. im just trying to work out where that is. i think its near the fitzwilliam and market square
sophieblovetodance 4 years ago

What street is this?
LJBrit 4 years ago
it's the one heading to fitzwilliam museum. On the right you have Peterhouse and on the left Pembroke college.

davidmiler12 3 years ago
David this church is verry interesting as it has the memorial to Godfrey Washington , Georges uncle, on which is the arms of the family , Stars and Stripes, its obvious that george used that as the flag of the U.S
Dhbrydon 3 years ago
lol thats awesome! very nice! cycling/walking/doing anything without a car looks so dodgy with 4x speed!

dont mind cyclists but they should learn how to cycle.
1) A path is not a road
2) You've got arms, so signal!
3) Look where your going
4) It is not a computition to see who can cycle fastest.
5) If you cycle in the middle of the road I will run you over.
