  • 1:50 is used by Eric Clapton

  • What a fantastic, moving and magical piece of film.

Great to hear Freddie playing an acoustic.

This man had music in his soul, his performance is so intense, I'm hoping but I don't think we will ever see his kind again.

Such a tragedy that he died so young.

  • "Ima 'lectric guitar player, but ima try" Freddie could play some shoe strings and it would sound great

  • awesome. thanks so much for sharing! i love freddie so much! the best...period!

  • If thats what prison is like, then lock me up for life, baby.

  • No matter where you are in life, music will always be magical. Let it move you because Freddie you always move me.

  • Them prisoners sure clapped a good time

  • Thanks mate. Just amazing.

  • So the skinny guy I see playing Bass in Feddie's band is actually, going by this video his brother. Didn't know that.

    Wonderful footage.

  • thank you man--this is fabulous

  • good stuff !!

  • He claims isn't "that good" on acoustic, Then proceeds to be "very damn good" on it!

  • This is fantastic. Thank you so much for posting.

  • Yeah and Freddie had a special touch on people and it was his strong soul and backbone to the blues, people feel it when they here it !! VH.

  • Oh yeah~ This is the real shit...

  • Keepin the flame alive.... baby!

  • I hope to hell Freddie didn't cause a riot!! What we need is a YouTubePlus site where great historical footage is not bothered with the other mainly crap shite that everyone else posts. Actually we just need a Freddie king site. FredTube. I'd pay for Fredtube.

  • Oh my fucking god!!!! I would go fucking rob a bank if I could be present in such an amazing moment!!!!!

  • he was so much fun--who wouldnt love that man,, miss you Sir

  • can anyone tell me where/how to learn to play it lkek that? i mean the 12 bars and even the lick at 1:48. it sounds so nice.

  • That's his brother playing the other geet.

  • this is the blues are you listening?

  • The second number is Earl King's "Come on" An old standard played in by every Northwest rock band in the 60s.

  • Reeeaaaallllyyyyy gooooooooooooood... A special voice... A very special soul... Mr. Freddie King is one of the best bluesman I ever heard...

  • You won't see these mainstream artist today do anything like this. this just gave me an idea.

  • whats the second song???? the one that starts at 3mins 33secs! it doesnt sound like louis jordans good times roll

  • WHAT THE FUCK Spectacular version .....Damn those son of a bitches can play the Blues

  • Thanks for a fantastic film. It's so beautiful and moving

  • Screw rap, I want the blues back!

  • smokin blues.........

  • I cried....... I made a youtube account just to write to you... Best short film about the power of music...An all time classic! thank you.

  • OUTSTANDING

  • Thanks so much for sharing this film. Incredible footage.

  • this is an incredible, fantastic piece of film. it's right up there with footage of king curtis' funeral -- with duane allman and cornell dupree playing -- which has been removed from youtube. thank you for posting and keeping this available!

  • nothing like that ever happens when i go to jail,(lucky bastards)

  • Thanks. How would a video get into that hall of fame? Does someone nominate it? Is there a committee or curator who solicits material?

  • this is a great video and should be in the blues hall of fame in clarksdale , freddy king was the blues incarnate very inspirational as a guitarist

  • One of the very best videos ive ever seen on You Tube period ! this is blues ! Mr Freddie KIng does charity awesome

  • @DETROITBULLET Thanks to you and others who have made very kind comments - nice to read.

  • THE BEST FROM THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is great video footage of Freddie King. So where is credit due - to the talent being filmed or the person behind the camera?

  • Phenomenal. Of the three Kings, Freddie is still my favourite. He's mellifluous, such a rich voice, such great guitar. Thanks for shooting this back then, it's very much appreciated here and now.

  • great footage !

  • its the same eric clapton's solo in "before you acuse me"!

  • This is what the blues is ALL ABOUT!

  • what a great piece of history, I love to see the great blues artists with their acoustics!

Somehow I can't see anybody these days doing this sort of thing. They're too busy counting their money.

  • ricsternberg - thanks so much for putting this together! it must have been amazing to be there. freddy was 1000% class.

  • that is just brilliant!!!

  • Yeah, Man! Just great.

Still hard to believe that he played w/a Thumbpick!!

    Larry Cohn

  • This is great. i remember seeing him open up for Grand Funk. He was one of the cats my Dad introduced me to on the record player at home. Thanks for posting. Most Jazz cats get too uppity and don't get deep into the blues. This obviously doesn't apply to cats like George Benson and Lou Donaldson, to name few.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this great piece of Americana! Freddie's voice is just at it's absolute peak and his guitar playing is just amazing! What a kind soul he was! Love it!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • This clip is so touching.

Tears in my eyes from the first notes.

    Fantastic capture.

  • Leon Russell had the good sense to include two acoustic numbers, "Walkin' By Myself" and "Dust My Broom", on Freddie's album "Getting Ready". This is a GREAT video and thanks SO much for creating and posting it! I miss Freddie terribly to this very day.

  • ...The blues is the truth!

  • What an amazing video! Gives me the chills. This is what the blues are all about. Never heard FK play acoustic. Never heard him sound more funky. You can tell he really liked playing for the female inmates! Cool is the rule. Thanks for filming and posting this, Ric!

  • amazing :)

  • Very cool!

  • Thanks for posting that, that is one of the most awesome performances I have seen. I like how he always says he can't play an acoustic guitar... funny how that even though he supposedly can't play one, as soon as he touches it, blues just oozes out of it.... fantastic!

  • That would never happen today. Everybody is too uptight and where's the talent?

God Bless Freddie King, The Texas Cannonball.

  • Awesome. Thanks for uploading.

  • Thank you for uploading.

  • da best,thanks

  • What a voice!

    Legend!

  • lock me up and send Freddie in ! That must have been a great night for some of them fellas !

  • jail is a part of the blues history...They go together...

  • Jail is not so bad when you're up all night with Freddie King!

  • man this guy is my frickin' HERO!!!! Seriously, "i'm going to try". Plays that guitar like it was made just for him!

  • "im not too good on this type of guitar", come on freddie, if i could play an acoustic anywhere near as good i would happily die tommorow a happy man, amazing guitar player, pure pure soul and feeling, what a legend!!

  • THANK YOU!!!!!

  • Excellant post of a class act

Thanks to Fendermac for sending it my way

  • Brilliant!

  • Terrific Good on 'em, what a great guy and musician:-)

  • Freddie was some kinda man, the kind you wanna be friends with, the kind you admire in any situation playing guitar or talking about anything.

  • It really is a bigger shift than you might think to play acoustic after you have played electric a lot. The feel of the neck is much much different -- It always messes me up at first. I'm impressed at how flawless he plays though.

  • warms me to the core, what a way to start off thenew decade, 2010 and Freddie still lives on.

  • Freddie = King FOREVER !!!

  • Amazing! Thanks for posting this!

  • You won't see Jay-Z or Emenin doing anything like this any time soon.

This cat is the real deal, babies!

  • @SugarXMind99 Because it's a matter of ability to have a good time

  • @SugarXMind99 no shit! excellent point! your right.

  • @SugarXMind99 actually to be fair both of those douchebags have done loads of charity work, its been well documented,

  • Isn't much footage that I've seen of Freddie which didn't bring me joy. No exception here.

When I hear of people who actually met Freddie or someone like Big Joe Turner in person, I've got to stand back in awe.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Absolutely great. Five stars mate

    Thanks for posting it

  • One of the best vids I've seen.

Just shows the ENORMOUS soul and spirit of FK!

  • I never saw Freddie play an acoustic before.

He plays it darn well, though!

  • Thanks RIC! for being in the right place at the right time.

  • What a cool cat Freddie was! That is Dickey Betts at the beginning.

  • Yeah, I can see the resemblance but actually that's Richard Halpin, the guy who organized the performance.

  • Not only does it look like Dickey but it also sounds like him. I can't believe it is not him.

  • this is great thanks i saw the other video on here it wasn't quality like yours.people can use a program to upload your videos

  • @ricsternberg No way Dickie ever talked like that, lol.
