@IgnatiusChinaski This is from Jam Cruise 3...2005. I was on the boat for this one. The night before this, Jimmy came up and played the entire "Wish You Were Here" Shine on You Crazy Diamond. FILTHY
I have watched this literally dozens of times. Jimmy Herring is so f*ucking sick there are no superlatives in the English language to describe his guitar playing. His playing is rivaled only by his humility as he is such a nice guy. Trey, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks and the guys from moe are sick but for my money Herring is the best guitarist by far in jamland today. Thank you very much for posting this video. It is one of my favs on youtube.
@IgnatiusChinaski Herring is a beast, but I like Derek more and think Derek is more talented. Think about this, when was the last time you saw Derek Trucks play a shitty solo? I've never seen Herring perform a crappy solo, but I've seen him perform a solo thats around a 7. Derek's shit is always 9.5 or higher
With ya, man. There is not another guitarist in rock right now that can play with the emotion, phrasing, technical ability, ADAPTABILITY, or downright skill and feeling that Herring brings. The man is a fucking musical genius that will not be truly appreciated for many years. Check out his solo band's cover of Zappa's "Zoot Allures" on youtube. Fucking sick. Enjoy!
@IgnatiusChinaski If you're going to list the guys from moe, I feel like you should also mention Jake from Umphrey's. He is quite an amazing guitarist also.
@IgnatiusChinaski Dude as a die hard ass fan of all of those guys you listed, Especially Derek Trucks. I cannot deny on any level that jimmy just spanks the shit out of making music, his improvisational well is literally insane...it is so horrible for any body to be so good.
I've listened to this about 5 or 6 times now and I just noticed that jimmy missed a Key changes 0:56 to 1:27, He stays in D, while I think everyone else moves up to E. It's all good though, Jimmy's great either way, plus it looks like they we're havin a great time regardless. haha
those guys are having a damn good time. that's what music is all about. and jimmy herring never stops blowing my mind. there are many great guitar players on the scene today, but herring stands alone.
Fuck yeah! This was Jam Cruise 3. I was there!!! Jimmy Herring played the ENTIRE Shine On You Crazy Diamond with Claypool's band. It was mind-blowing!
