This is AMAZING I literally just spent 2 hours replaying this more than 50 times! If there is any way I could get a copy of the sheet music i would be eternally grateful b/c I am also in 2 quartets called The Harmaniacs and Crossfire and this sounds like a perfect song for both quartets!!!
seems like a great gathering of students...very nice job...voices are blending extremely well and the heart of it all (i.e. the song ; scarborough fair) makes for a wonderful chance to show case the sounds of a well conceived performance with rich voices and a great harmony to put this particular video well over the top of most , if not all who tried it before. Great job of organizing and bringing the best of the best to the stage.....loved the great sound...very nice job.
that last cord.... it was to beautiful! You are amazing and so talented and the space you where in really blended everything well. I cried after that last cord. So beautiful. Please if you can give me the sheet music for this I would be eternally grateful.
this is amazing. there is absolutely nothing as wonderful or as mesmerizing as human voices coming together and making music. beautiful blending. please get together and do this again. and if there were mistakes... i couldn't really tell at all (but don't take my word on it, as i'm not a singer myself :). keep it up boys!!!
Pretty sure if I were you guys, I would go around thinking I am the best thing in the world. But, you guys all seem so humble and not arrogant at all. That just adds on to the impressiveness of all your talents. Plus, this insane musical harmony that sounds like angels basically.
Scarborough Fair has always been a favorite of mine. And you all do an amazing job of performing it. I only noticed one or two mistakes, but then I'm unfamiliar with this version of Scarborough Fair. Even then, 'tis breath-taking to listen to.
Do you have any idea where one could get the sheet music? I'd like to use this one day if I continue with my decision to teach music.
I don't even know how many times I've seen this and it borderline brought me to tears this time. No exaggeration whatsoever, this is the most beautiful harmony my ears have yet to hear. I don't know what could top this. Incredible.
Is there any way that I could get a copy of the music? I REALLY like this arrangement over any that I've heard before. And I need something to put together for my senior vocal practical. I'll have to teach it and conduct it.
OMG. This has sold me. I've been trolling around through related links of you guys after discovering you via danny via the pimp on topless robot, and at first, it was just funny. But this has *sold me.* You are now my next-favourite men's collegiate group, after da Doox and before the Other Guys.
You know, this is what I love about YouTube: You get so many different recordings of the same thing in one place. Even just compared with Danny and David's Multitrack the colors that you hear are so different. Truly magical!
wow! that was good. The sign of a good close-harmony group is the tuning to each other between the parts, and it was spot-on and sweet. I see you've also found that stair-wells give good acoustics!
wow amazing haha at times it sounds so well put together that its sometimes seems unreal and the voices meld together oh so well i felt shivers down my spine and i had goosebumps this was amazing also at times it sounded like vocaloids XD not a bad thing i thought it was pretty cool cause it was the blend of voices that made this just so cool
Don't get much better than that :) Only suggestion is that lead note at the end. Work on hitting that stronger, full voice and not falsetto if possible. That chord will ring like no other! Who are the "friends" with you guys? They're excellent as well. Keep it up all of you!
Are those overtones at 2:26? Im not that familiar with this piece and it seems that other versions I listened to dont ring out those high notes at the same point. It ventures for a moment into soprano territory. Either way, very cool.
Wow, you are guys really did an amazing job on that piece. Is it really a barber shop piece? I think the blending was outstanding. I have listened to it a few times. If there were mistakes none of us will know, we do not have the score infront of us. Oustanding work!!!!
at 2:27, is there someone really singing that high note in falsetto, or is that just the most perfect overtone ever? no, wait, don't tell me, i'm just going to pretend it's an overtone and marvel at how you did it.
i didnt mean refined as a bad thing. i just that the top tenor/ lead note was a little rough but i have no room to talk cuz im a bass in madrigals and barbershop lol:P Btw this was stunning arrangment. i think my choir director sang it back like when he was on broadway tour with south pacific
Haha, Thanks dude. This was a really good take, but it wasn't perfect. Once you've sang this song, you really have a good ear for how each part should be sung, as you well know. Out of all the "fake" singing videos online, the fact that someone chose this one is beyond me haha. Ohwell
btw i didnt mean refined as it was bad. it was just that upper note was kinda rough but sounded good. I have no room to talk cuz im bass in barbershop lol
Wow allinfun your a jerk. Why would somebody waste there time lip syncing in a stare well? And if it were a professional recording dubbed over dont you think the last few measures would have been a little more refined
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Totally fake. The way you guys were flipping that music around it would have been the predominant noise in the hall way. You should not try to fake talent.
Nice try. You can hear sheets shuffling if you listen closely, which you clearly didn't. How about that massive door slam that makes us turn our heads? So I've deduced that you can't see or hear, but can still comment that everything's fake. And why would I get 8 guys (all music majors) to lip sync a song in a stairwell? Waste of time if you ask me. Check my other vids, and you'll see more "fake" singing.
You should not pretend to know what you're talking about:)
Absolutely not harsh at all. If indeed, well you know. I did hear the door and the music flips. It is interesting that you pointed those out. Perhaps you went to a lot of trouble adding those sounds in. Or perhaps you placed a studio altered track over the recording made in the hall way. Your intelligent response to my comment is a sure indication that you are capable of such recording mastery.
I AM well versed in recording and production of audio, however to go through all the trouble of editing sound the way you suggested to deceive an audience is pure madness. Musicality is the main focus here, and the only thing I did to "enhance" the video was to record the audio on a separate device and add an EQ and an adaptive limiter. When singing in a "wet" environment with 8 people present, you are limited to what you can edit anyways regardless. A clear and balanced sound is the goal.
I don't doubt your credentials. The fact is, it is EXTREMELY difficult to cover up a live recording. I'd say impossible, but I'm sure there's some sound guru out there who can do it on professional software. If I re-recorded it with my own voice, it would be totally obvious cause I'd have to record all the parts (my range can't' do that), imitate my friends' voices (which I can't do) and get the same overall room sound through computer plug-ins. Not possible.
@AndrewKesler I agree. PS I think all the phony recordings out there are horrible. My choir is working on a CD and trying to keep it natural. But at one point my director said "put it in a church" and all the acoustics changed. With pro recording. It was amazing and saddening at the same time. But I have to admit, it made Flight of the Bumblebee sound that much better.
Wait, it is easy to lay one track over another and make one dominant to cover the imperfections in the live recording, thus enhancing the appeal of the video. I have gone over the track several times now, and well.... I do not hear "some" of the rapid page turns that I believe would have sounded out over your voices in a wet room. It sounds like you cleaned up the recorded using your own voice. The simple method used in creating tags by singing with yourself. Then you combined the two.
Hey, that is just my opinion, and if I am wrong, I'm wrong and I apologize to you and your friends. In fact if I am wrong, you could be the American equivalent to the KIng Singers. And yes, I have taught choir for 18 years (I was also a member of a professional mens quartet) and I record my singers for educational enhancement. I use a Mac and studio software on a regular basis. That is why I made the comment. But that does not make me an expert on your method of recording.
Hey man, I'm in this video. And you're a fucking retard. LIke what is all this bullshit you're saying about laying tracks. If we could lay tracks and fix imperfections we would not have made the errors where we did.. that other people clearly pointed out in the comments. I hate you.
@daniscool99 they're just being little freggin trolls. Pay no attention to them. This song is beatiful and you guys did a fantastic job. Absolutely fantastic. I'm in a womeans barbershop chorus and we were trying to find a version of this song that we could sing. =P
Yeah, we had a small audience for this rehearsal. Danny and Brodie were somewhat pioneers at my high school. They started an a cappella quartet with 2 others in grade 10 and then because of that, more of the guys in high school got into singing (including me). They experimented with some barbershop back then, but we didn't actually go hardcore into it until last summer. After transcribing and learning a couple tunes, we came to Humber, met Calvin, and voila, a quartet was formed!
Great job, Andrew. Like most barbershoppers, it seems you've discovered that stairwells are the best place to ring chords!! Have you heard Vocal Spectrum sing this with the Gas House Gang? It's on the CD VS1. See you at Blue Mountain.
Yeah the Vocal Spectrum recording is quite good. This was a cool opportunity to get some non barbershops in on the fun. Stairwells are quite the place to be. I can't wait for Blue Mountain! I hope we do well. No guarantees tho lol
Thank you for spreading your passion for barbershop! It's so great to see young guys like yourselves enjoying it. The frustrating thing for me is that with you guys singing 1st, and my quartet 5th, I'm not going to see you on stage Friday night. I hope we can meet up somewhere at the resort so my quartet can hear you. We may get to see you Saturday night in the Parade of Winners! :)

I just love this - tight harmonies and great voices all!
So - I'm from England - this is an English folk song - my only gripe is the pronunciation of 'Scarborough' - which is pretty damn important!
It really isn't 'Scar-bur oh' - its much more like 'Scar-ber-uh'
In English English '-ough' is pronounced '-uh', not '-oh'.
Anyway, love the vocals - and thats whats important!
