@mrccamill Oh yeah, that's something Oscar does quite often. I can't imagine having such equality, especially playing at his speed. He's a regular Art Tatum with that left hand ;)
And Yes, I hear Oscar humming too! But then, he always did! He loved what he did and that was part of Oscar's charm and why I adored him! So happy he did some on this recording, he loved what he was doing!!
Listened to Oscar Peterson's version and because I have been a fan forever of Oscar's (always went to Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit to hear him play) I feel he did a supurb recording of Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Wave!" This song is so beautiful.................and a beautiful tribute to someone I just discovered (Antonio) and then lost..................today!
played this, and Oscars' "We get requests" album for my hip friends back in the 70s....they was into weather report, herbie, miles, n all the right stuff; but they couldn't get Oscar.
They were too Kool. Thelonious dissed him. Not "Black enuff" or something...
Forty years later, I know it was not me that was missing it. I hear THE MAN on this recording, know now why I was Ok with being Unkool-Oscar was the real deal. Talent doesn't have a colour-it just paints rainbows like this. Awesome
The sad thing was that OP improvised so much that he never repeated the way he played. The great thing was that OP improvised so much that he never repeated the way he played. Always fresh, one version built on the last, or took off in new exciting directions that leave you amazed. Listen to Jobim's version of Wave with OP playing, and pay attention to the piano solo that takes off around 3:39 and you will see what I am saying. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderfilled stuff.
Heard this on wdcb in chicago last night while driving in rush hour combined with snow coming down. I had to hear it again. Fortunately the person announced what songs she played . She has great taste and sat in for the regular jock. It's beautiful. I'm new to the standards like this. I don't think there would be any road rage if this was piped into your car the minute a sensor that your're hooked up to would detect your blood pressure going through the roof. Thanks for posting this. AWESOME.
You can't get any better than this. This beautiful melody of Jobim, with the genius of Oscar Peterson and one of the best ever arrangers, Claus Ogerman. Absolutely Priceless.
Anything that Antonio Carlos Jobim ever created was dripping with such Saudade.Out of all the versions that have been perfomed by many artists.Mr.Peterson captured my imagination of beautiful sun, surging waves, and magical nights of romance in the vibrant nights of Rio.Thanks for Wave by Oscar Peterson
Beautiful! Let's all go over Stephan's house and hang out and listen to some tunes! Stephan you've got me staying up half the night listening to all your great music! Oscar rules!
Exquisite! I'd forgotten how lovely this was. Scary to think I remember it when it was 1st performed. Many thanks for a beautiful addition to your already superb collection!
a great version of a great and timeless tune. timeless. classic. the genius of both jobim and peterson. what a feast. yes, indeed. thanks for the share.
Yes ! the one and only.Claus O,also arrg on Sinatra/Jobim horns&strings for some of their albums & George Benson's Breezin album..you have a great album there..Marc : )
What an inspirational song, lets me think of a deserted island, coconut trees, crystal clear water and having a sex-on-th-beach :D My vinyl version at home got better bass tho. :)
Incredible! This is without a doubt the best and the most beautiful version of this tune! This is the second Oscar Peterson video I've posted on my jazz/bossa nova playlist and I love it! Friend Stephan, you are the best! Thanks again! :)
Thank you, Claus.

Fantastic. Is he playing the solo with both hands in unison at the end? (like after 5:30) If so, that is incredible left hand technique!
