NO ONE is investigating the FACT that the BUSH Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales, who directed the ENRON prosecution was IN FACT, HIMSELF, a former ENRON LAWYER. Lay recommended him for appointment to the Texas Supreme Court to then Gov....BUSH.

Bloggers intereted in this should connect this to stories about some of the ridiculous prosecutions that have been undertaken as a result of having partisan believers in the DOJ. My favorite is the actions against a microbrewer in Weed, CA that was reported in the LA Times. Funny stuff. I keep hoping either The Daily Show or the Colbert Report will cover the story, but serious left bloggers using it would be cool too.
The Democratic mayority is only symbolical, I mean is what... 50 Dems, 49 Republicans and 1 Indy. Not enough to do anything really, it was just a symbolic defeat to a GOP mayority back then. Now, in November when the numbers change to 62 Dem, 1 Ind, and 37 Republicans, and a Democrat as President, we will start a long reconstruction process after Hurricane Bush. Be patient people, there is hope for America.
Barack? You mean Mr. FISA, let's give the government unprecedented surveillance power over the American people? Obama's vote is a disgraceful attack on American civil liberties.
I very much doubt Obama has any interest in attacking Iran. The military is against it; most of the elites are against. The only people in favor of it are people are the anti-Semitic Christian fundamentalists and a few nutbags like Dick Cheney. McCain, I don't know. His ignorance of foreign policy is amazing ("the surge has reduced violence," Iran - Al-Qaeda") but most elites understand an attack on Iran would lead to massive repercussions for US troops in Iraq and the US economy.
First off: no doubt about it, it isn't just a new Pres. we need. Bob Woodward said in an interview lately, "We no longer have representative government at the national level." Congress needs to get cleaned up, too; a Pres. can't do it alone. But Obama is a Big, big start. Second, with regard to prosecution, especially of Bush, Cheney, and Rove, and especailly for war crimes, see new Vincent Bugliosi(Helter Skelter author) book "The Prosecution of George Bush for Murder".
Bush really has done a number on us. I hope that we've learned our lesson from this mistake. Obama is a big start, you're right. Just a start though, because it is a big mess and we can't expect him to fix it all. Although, I can't wait for when he's in Office and the republicans start complaining that he's not fixing their mess fast enough ..Because you know that's exactly what will happened. lol.
sonny: even the mere mention of the fed as a problem completely delegitimizes your comment. please don't bring your conspiracy theory crap in here - we'd like to solve the real problems here.
first of all, hit "Reply" on my comment so I see your comment. Second... conspiricy? That's how far off people are from what's real. Real issues. It has been talked about getting rid of the federal reserve for many years. You are severly uneducated it's disgusting. The problem is even MORE apparent now then in the past. Look at the value of our dollar! You think that's all just Bush? Get real.
sonny: huh? I of course hit reply on your comment and let anyone know who i was talking to by including your name. google: flaherty debunking federal reserve . . that will help. The fed merely translates economic fundamentals into shrinking or expanding the money supply. Our economic problems are not due to the fed.
we're to easily led to scapegoats. What about the intelligence people that led us to war? Or the lobiests that pander for our dollars? Bushs cabinet of cronies aren't the root of the evil. We have to look deeper. Who's are the ones pulling strings?
I agree with much of what you say, though I am optimistic enough to want Obama to be given the benefit of the doubt. Certainly the best chance in my 50 years on earth, and MAYBE he'll live up to the potential. BTW I also greatly admire our other IL Senator, Durbin, who voted against the war. Regarding Bush of course, there are the others pulling the strings. But, what a powerful kink to put in their power structure--and unprecedented--if Bush were to be put on trial after he leaves office!
in the 50years of your life have you seen anything the government has done that you can say you're proud of? I'm just curious. Maybe I'm jaded from studying too much bad history. But I can't say since ww2 that I know of too much that our country has done to make us still feel like we're great. Our country is great and has the greatest political document in history. The constitution. Why can't we live by it anymore?
I should rephrase that. Has there been anything our GOVERNMENT has done to make you proud in the last 50 years. There is plenty my and your country has done that I'm happy with. Us, the people, are a great people and I'll die believing that.
Some of what you said is true. But, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I think it's just public complacency that has lead to everything getting this far, not some dark overLord pulling the strings that we can't see. We see them plain as day -It's big Corporations and Bad Government, plain. as. day. But, I also do believe that Barack Obama is different and that he is a start in the right direction. (Optimist)
complacency is good. It means people are fed up with the status quo. I'm not suggesting some omnipotent being is pulling the strings. But the politicians in office right now are mostly a joke. No substance, just panderers pandering for popularity. I'm talking congress and all. But if we look at our banking system we find trails to cooperations and lobbiests that show there are further interests out there making the decisions. I'm being very vague because of the length here available.
sonny: please google flaherty debunking federal reserve . . . it will help you get off the fed conspiracy theory stuff. it's a waste of time. the corporate sector and MI complex have become increasingly influential in determining gov't policy. that's the problem, look no further.
Complacency is not good. Because of it, people let these politicians get a way with their bullshit.. they work for us, but we're not asking anything from them. They keep us comfortable and they get away with whatever they want. I'm voting for Barack Obama, and I'm going to expect the change he preaches, if not. I'm not going to be complacent about it, he's going to hear from me and many others.
Ok, so do you think him "hearing" from you is going to change a bad decision? Do you think all the people that Bush is "hearing" from is making a difference? Don't put hope in false prophets. He says a large mix of things. Oppose war then for war. Look up his speach at AIPAC. He's ready to get us into another war. And just the fact that people are willing to elect someone that plans on spending HUNDEREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars on more government is kinda scary.
So basically you're just complaining and not offering anything useful.. I get that your cynical, but don't try to beat everyone else down with your hopelessness and warped theories.
Bush has nothing to worry about. The Dems will roll over on this issue too. They won't impeach, and will probably pass amnesty legislation for anyone at Justice that broke the law.
I am a conservative so i might be bias but has the democratic congress done NOTHING that they promised the democratic voters ?? I ain't trying to be mean or anything but i am just asking.
With the exception of perhaps a few minor domestic issues the answer is yes; the Democrat's have done nothing to live up to the promises they made to the folks who voted for them in '06.
I agree. I am a liberal Democrat. The Dems have been a big disappointment. Little has changed. The Dem Congress rubber stamps Bush's terrible policies just like the Republican Congress.
There is very little difference in the politicians the higher we go now. Left and Right are b and s. On social issues the people tend to disagree. Liberal and conservative. But we're missing the main point. We're all Americans with one binding law. The constitution. Civil liberties are the main source of our freedom. We've moved too much in to a "democracy". We're forgetting that the law of the land forbids us from making laws that infringe on civil liberty. So we have to agree to disagree.
colossus: congrats to you for pointing out that the dems are politicians. and now that you have made that stunning discovery, I would like to get back to feeling good about the fact that, if we play our cards right, and not appear to uneducated voters as if we're weak on nat'l security, we might be able to whup the asses of the repubs and establish some sort of a reasonable dem-led gov't. our chances are better if you guys would stfu. thanks.
colossus: well, i wasn't yelling, if i were yelling, i would have used caps, lol. There is considerable fist-pounding about dems in congress needing to act in a principled way these days. I'm all for principles, but I'm more for winning the election and expanding our influence in the house and senate. in many cases, if we behave in a principled way, we will look weak on terror, and we could lose an election. we want to win, that's all.
The problem... You're brainwashed by media into thinking a democratic populated government is the ANSWER to our problems. They're the good guys and eventually they'll figure it out.If we "play our cards right". wtf? What cards? We vote for crummy politicians that hold all the cards. People like you don't even realize that the people force fed to you to represent you aren't there for your best interest. They're there to be politicians. If we wake up, they'll pander to us. So wake the fuck up.
sonny: No, in fact, I don't think a dem majority will fix things at all. The problem in the country, esp over the last 20 - 30 has been the rise of huge influence of the corporate sector and MI complex over the gov't. It would be unusual to hear an elected person say the word "antitrust," but that's what we need. What we need is a broad-based rough and tumble capitalism in the country. It's going to take a central gov't with an adversarial stance toward the corporate sector.
How 'bout that? We're in agreeience. Awesome. One thing you have to keep in mind though is the lobby system. And a strong "central" government suggests you want more power in the congress right? Meaning federal level decision making? Well, the problem with the lobby system is they attack congress on capitol hill. If power were given back to the states, that would break a lot of that centeralized corruption.
sonny: it might seem like it would, but it won't work long-term. that's because states compete with one another to attract business, just as do cities within states. the result is that the corporate sector has enormous influence in state and city gov'ts (a kind of divide and conquer scheme). there is no other way than to educate the public so they'll insist that elected folks at the federal level push back against the corporate interests or lose their incumbencies. education is needed.

no. They've been lame ducks. Liberal or conservative, people want out of the war. They've done nothing about that.

colossus: congrats to you for pointing out that the dems are politicians. and now that you have made that stunning discovery, I would like to get back to feeling good about the fact that, if we play our cards right, and not appear to uneducated voters as if we're weak on nat'l security, we might be able to whup the asses of the repubs and establish some sort of a reasonable dem-led gov't. our chances are better if you guys would stfu. thanks.

...why are you yelling at me

lol yeah, wtf?

colossus: well, i wasn't yelling, if i were yelling, i would have used caps, lol.

Well I do infact agree with you highly there.
